I would say so. Just dont think he deserves a spot in our best side.

Turns out I was wrong about him.

I thought he was best 22 material.

Who do we trade him to and would a second rounder be greedy? $330k salary next year, few clubs would balk at that.

Unless he goes back to Swans?

Man that's a pretty strong team !!!

Hope jezzas nose is ok. Hopefully not a late out

Love seeing Davis and Patfull back in there

How does Lobb go in the ruck?

jumps and taps, like most ruckmen. ;)

Seriously, he's ok. Despite the team list, Phillips will be lead ruck. He's bigger and more experienced. Giles has rucked with both.

Which also means that they have rucked with Giles. Both will know each other's game extremely well. Will be one of the more interesting match ups on the weekend.

Callan Ward on the bench?

The teams in position on paper on Thursday never line up that way.

Somebody needs to explain the strategy of putting guns on the bench to start games. That and goal kickers going off after kicking one.

The commentators say it's for team structure but I think it's the greatest wank in history.

Hopefully bringing the interchange number back will end this myth.

Earlier in the year it seemed that Leon was rewarding a goal by a resting mid by putting him in the center square for the immediate following bounce (as opposed to giving him a spell). Given the competition for spots in the middle it seems to me to be a great carrot for a bunch of hungry young players. Obviously this strategy becomes a little more difficult to execute now given the pretty clear top 3 on-ballers (in Treloar, Cogs and Ward) but rewarding aspiring full time mids (like Dev Smith or Toby Greene) with a stint on the ball as opposed to a stint on the bench is, absent fatigue, a far better idea for mine.

Re team announcement, having jack-of-all-trades guys like Tomo on the bench doesn't tip the hat to the opponent on how he is likely to be used. Also, there is simply no way that Ward starts the game on the bench. He will be the starting ruck rover for as long as he's healthy enough to do it. Shiel and Cogs have started on the bench at times this year but that would simply be a matter of wanting to have 90%+ game time from all of the on-ballers, and in order to do that someone needs to start off. Usually there would be one inside mid, one spread mid/ HBF and a big guy starting on the sideline, and that mix is probably about the same for the duration of the game - I don't think you wanna start the game with three guys who all ostensibly are in the team to do the same thing on the bench.

One area where I think Leon hasn't been great is his sub selections.

Too often he has put blokes such as Stewart and Steele who offer zero impact.

Thankfully this silly rule is getting turfed but for the rest of the year we need to focus on lads that offer genuine impact and a point of difference.

Other than that Leon has been gun.

I don't care what the strategy behind it is; bringing off a forward that's kicked a goal is a great way of explaining interchange doesn't mean you're not playing to my Under 9s team

For those travelling in on Sunday, note that the netball World Cup is on at Allphones all day, including a likely packed house for Aus v NZ at 2.20. This will likely mean slim pickings in the car park, so allow some extra travel time.
Thankfully no trackwork this weekend
