Autopsy Round 2, 2021: St.Kilda v Melbourne *SPUD'S GAME* *SINCLAIR 100TH*

Just played silly football.

All week the talk was that Lever, May and Tomlinson wouldn't be allowed to dominate like they did against Freo. That our forwardline was too dangerous for them to run loose.

We played right into it. Long, high, bombs and the picked it off all night.

Got smashed in the middle. Good story Paul Hunter but there was a chasm in talent in that contest.

Thought we looked sluggish after last week too.

Ratts needs to send a message next week to fire them up -

Out: Hill, Lonie & Hunter
In: Crouch, Kent & Carlisle

Play McKernan as the #1 ruck, Carlisle as the ruck/forward.

Out coached, same as last year's game. They put Gawn behind the ball with Lever and May, couldn't cope. Our players looked up and second guessed themselves all night. Need to find a way around it because Collingwood and Geelong have successfully done it to us in the past.

Leadership group played well tonight...

Howard, Wilkie, Billings, Ross, Steele, Gresham all dug in..

Gee they all looked like they were running backwards.

Few blokes would be rightly nervous for selection. Jones, Sinclair, Hill were all shocking

i don't think gresham can be added to that list, he only got going once they were 29 points in front. he's part of the problem right now

Bomb it long directly to the Demons key defenders and Gawn or try be short and precise and show off our incompetent ball movement/skills. Really disappointing night. We are desperate for Ryder or Marshall to return..

You simply cannot win a game of football with so many passengers.

McKernan, Higgins, Lonie, Butler, Hill, Long, Sinclair, Hunter, Jones. All horrible games.

We cannot keep playing Hunter and McKernan in the same team.

That was our worst performance since Good Friday against the Roos I reckon. Cannot believe how shite Hill was, he started the game off really well with his intensity too but then cost us on so many occasions.

The positives were Ross, Steele, Howard and Membrey. Also that we didn’t let it blow out. Gresham had some good moments too but his disposal is still terrible most of the time.

In: Marshall/Ryder, Kent, Crouch
Out: Hunter, Lonie/Higgins, Webster/Long depending on Jimmy’s injury

Sinclair was very disappointing for his 100th but he wasn't alone.

I didn't see much commitment or hunger out there, they were playing like they were on roller skates, afraid to fall over, waiting waiting waiting instead of taking a chance and making it happen.

The only positive about this shit performance is it will make the selection headache easier, Crouch especially.

I really hope Ryder's back on board for next round. We need him or Rowan back pronto

I'm not going to go hard at Hunter. He has limitations, tries his best but unfortunately is not an AFL ruck. Won't play when Roma/Ryder are available and honestly shouldn't be playing now.

I cannot stand lack of commitment to a contest. Hang your head in shame Hill, to serve up some of those efforts in spud's game is an utter embarrassment. I can question the disposals of a few but 21 players went hard when they needed. Disgrace.

As to the game, the team had a mare. I'll give this week a pass and see how next week looks.

If you told me at the start of the year we’d be 1-1 after two games with the injury list we have, I’d have taken it.
I don’t like the way we lost tonight, I don’t like what Brad Hill is dishing up as a Saint and I don’t like the fact we kicked the ball down their defenders throats for 4 Quarters. We played into their hands, and that was the consequence as a result.
We get Ro & Crouch back in this week and try to bank four points against Essendon

Positive was that it was an actual game, no issues at all with anything else surrounding it, no shit decisions that made you want to kill people verbally, no exterior noise of issue with the event, just footy.

For half the game it was an event, both sides testing each other, ping pong, breaks here and there for both and an eventual settlement of about even skilling in different areas. The second half was where only about 6 blokes can say "I did my job" and the rest of them "I ran around and screwed most of what I did" as it was insipid of the "best players in the land".

If that, was how we wanted to play, how we could play, how we could arrest any sort of momentum swing, contest or dragging back any sort of deficit to what we plan to do, then we have some people who have NFI how to play the game of football and some without the skill to actually make it happen.

Disgusting spectacle.

where was the GUTS from last week?

From the coaches box did they actuallyto mix it up at all? We’ve got Josh Battle running up and down the wings doing nothing, why not just chuck him in the middle, couldn’t be worse than what was already going on?
