Neale was immense. Watching him live is so good. Seeing him burrow into packs and come out with the ball and always hits a target with the handball. Genius. Now adding goals to his game as well.

Thought Gardiner played a very underrated game down back and touchwood is over the shoulder issues. Rich and Zorko showed experience and class down back.

Only negative for me was first qtr and Mcstay was very poor. He just refused body contact and wants to jump into contests often from the side so its little wonder he drops so many marks. Hipwood was so much better last before injury because he engaged in physical contest. Dan can be a very important player for us but he needs to be a lot better, especially against the strong sides.

I would think playing them twice in the lead up to finals will give us a good chance to learn how to beat them before we play in the finals.
There is also a good chance that we might have to play them twice in the finals series as well if we both make the Grand Final, Depending on where we both finish on the ladder. 1st and 4th or 2nd and 3rd
I do not mind finishing with harder games in the last 4-5 weeks
Last year Freo 64, Pies 85 and WCE 38 not great going to the next two games against the eventually grand finalists
4 games before that we lost Hippy and lost to Saints, Hawks and Tigers with just a win against swans.
So no momentum

Rather player last 5 games against 2 in the top 4.

Interesting. So reading two of the 4s got zero votes from the other coach. Both had Parish as 3rd best, and then the other four was split with 2x2.

Also Berrys tagging job was appreciated by at least one coach. I didn't notice it too much at the ground but on reflection Merrett did go missing in the second half

Backline players get little love, even from the coaches.

My best guess would be

Fages: Neale 5, McClug 4 Parish3, Zorko 2, Berry 1

Rutten: Neale 5, Wright 4, Parish 3, Zorko 2, Rich 1

Both 5 for Neale is self-evident and am nearly certain Fages gave Berry a vote for the job he did in shutting down Merrett.

Split of the 4's, 3's and 2's is more difficult but 3-3 for Parish and 2-2 for Zorko kind of makes sense.

Which would mean 1x4 each for Clug and Wright.

Mathematically it’d have to be a 3-3 split for Parish.

Berry's got a fair bit of press on the job he did so good on him. I can't say I noticed it at the time either.

I noticed that Bez was spending a lot more time in and around the contest in this game which I thought was odd but didn’t pick up on the reason

I noticed it a bit because I was very mad about the centre bounce rotation in the first quarter, mainly because when we were getting hammered there, why was JL barely ever in there?

As such I noticed berry starting to take a defensive position on Merrett, but it was more evident after watching the presser and then the replay to actually look out for it.

Was much more noticeable watching the replay and looking for him. He did a very good defensive job.

Liked Lyons comment saying that Rayner is Stringer four years ago.
On the other hand, Lyon lost credibility with his comment that Wright's performance was Carey-like. Or maybe he meant Stefan Carey.

He meant Cary Grant. He's seen Wright's one man revival of North by Northwest.

Notices this. Leaps from the side and has very soft hands. Like he is flinching. Needs to go in harder

Not getting hung up on anything beardancer. If you read my post again, I think ;) I am saying that providing any Key Forward fills his role given by his coach, is good in my eyes. to go one step further, should all our forwards (Big, small, key or even part timer) fill their role given by the coach, you would expect us to win the game..... which we have done both times thus far in 2022. I'd be pretty confident in saying that the coach's are happy with Joe's performance to date despite your view of him being different.
You'd expect a guy who's 200 centimeters to be a good reliable mark though wouldn't you, though most of his goals are either joe the gooses in the goal square, a round the corner snap or a soccer on the line. All I want is to see him lead and take strong overhead grabs that he NEEDS to do. We've got Charlie, rat, cocky and linc to do the ground stuff Joe needs to get to the contest, get in front, forget the speccys and mark or get it towards the smalls.

I've been saying this ever since he first got a game.

He's actually not improved in that area.

I'm just totally frustrated with all the tools he has he never imposes himself physically. Which we need him to do.

I suppose one day.
