Our preparation and focus will be compromised as usual.
Collingwood will sense this, regain their confidence and upset us further.
I truly hope I am wrong!
How? And what do you mean by “as usual” ?

Sub: Hayes for Ross..........

Hopefully RTB performs a little slicker back in the Big smoke.

Surely Lenny, Harves et al couldn't do anyworse at the helm.
Afterall we have a history of being the team upon which out of sorts good teams regain their form.

I hope not...but looks a lot that way at this stage.

Home game ?

Yeah, they should have sent you a code by email. It was hard ton get on to ticketed again. Getting a ticket was like Taylor Swift tickets. Took about 30 minutes to get on to it.

We can at least hope for a more organised team than what presented against Geelong. If we can get some soldiers back it will help, otherwise after Collingwoods start to the year I think the Saints will be on the end of a very motivated side.

Surely we should be every bit as motivated?
If we’re not, in the second game of the season with it all to play for, we’ve got a very big problem.

Will be interesting to see if Jones comes in. I heard today there was a lot of ball in hand "cul de sac" running in the practice game. I've seen enough of that before prior to injuries. If that's still the case I'd rather the kids be chucked in and coached from the start.

Cheers mate!

Does anyone know which end the cheer squad set up? I hope to avoid as many ferals as possible though it’s a touch ask

In terms of the Collingwood game and moving fwd in general --

  • Only ONE of Ross and Crouch allowed in the same team! At the minute I think it's Ross as Crouch quite literally couldn't run.
  • If RTB rolls out the Steele/Ross/Crouch midfield again I swear I'll weep
  • I would start Collard in the 22, back the kid in ffs, send Higgins to Sub, maybe with some of the pace off the game he could do better
  • Really hope Stocker comes up but if he doesn't, think we could see Arie debut
  • Pou and Owens swap roles FFS just FFS get Owens on the ball!
  • Sincs in for whomever of Crouch/Ross gets left out

Ins: Sinclair,Shoey,Butler provided he played at Sandy

With Sharman having to play back on Sat it's obvious we need another marking player so Shoey comes in.

Sinclair speaks for himself we still need Crouch in will be better for the run.

Collard might be stiff Butler needs to play as he gets out the back well & the Pies struggle with that i think Higgo stays, is stronger then Collard and can stand under the ball when required for a mark his mobility is putrid thou.

Well you would be best sitting on the wing if you want to avoid the ferals

Agree with others here that the Steele/Crouch/Ross combination needs to be finished. Assuming Crouch will be better for the run, I would be putting Ross as sub for this week. Watching Ross on Dangerfield at stoppage was a train wreck (as soon as Danger started moving he was done).

The other spots are then filled by Sinclair, Windhager, Henry, Pou and Owens throughout the game. I am that desperate to see Dow in the midfield, a fast clearance beast is exactly what we need.

I will also say that we need to push King up the ground more, especially when we're struggling to get it out of defence. Let him take some around the ground stoppages (he already does it inside 50) so Marshall can sit behind the play. If my memory is correct one of our best plays was early on when King took the mark on D50 then we got them over the back. It threw off their defence completely.

Hopefully Butler as well as Sinclair will be declared fit. Though probably not.

Crouch was awful, but hopefully he will be better for the run. He was very good last season compared to Ross and so if one slow mid goes it should be Ross.

Jones is fit, but not match conditioned. They should look at him even if it is just the sub role. That way if our midfield is still looking too pedestrian at the ball ups, they can bring Jones on.

Hopefully Stocker will be good to go. The Pies lack tall forwards, but do have goal kicking power through their smalls and midfielders.

The problem with playing Higgins as a our sole true small forward is that he lacks pace and tends to play as a small marking forward and not as a crumber who also provides great forward pressure (ie Butler). When most of the other forwards are playing also as a marking targets in King, Membrey, Sharman, Poo and Owens then Higgins is not the best fit.

Having said that Wilson went quite well in his first game often playing forward.

The G will have a lot more space to use our pace and run in. Hopefully that can give us an edge.

Saving Sinclair for the game seems like we might be focussing on it.

Will be an interesting one. Sincs in, but will play most of the game as a mid?

As others (and myself before) have said, Mitch needs to be in the guts most of the time, a) to extract and muscle the ball and b) so his kicking isn't such a liability.

I reckon hang on to Crouch and drop Ross, leave everything else the same so Ross out, Crouch in. Start Wilson as the sub and let Collard get a bit of a run and hopefully some touches early.
