At this point, we just pay him not to coach. What do we have to lose? Just send him on leave until the end of the contract.

On top of paying Hinkley to do nothing we would also have to increase Josh Carr's salary from Assistant to Head Coach and probably appoint another Assistant Coach to take Carr's spot. I have no idea what that would cost us but it would not be cheap and as stated that additional cost, on top of the GFC loss, would be substantial.

It would have been smarter not to have extended Hinkley's contract a couple of years back but that damage has been done.

Ryan Burton, Esava Ratugolea and Ollie Lord, all players who many of us were criticising for their lack of effort in 2024. That suggests that our list is not as deep as some of us might like to think it is.

Our list looks weak and deficient due to the nature of the gameplan, which relies heavily on individual effort and brilliance to succeed.

Dynasty era Hawthorn's and Richmond's had premiership players in the ilk of Will Langford, Matt Spangher, Jason Castagna, Marlion Pickett etc who all came in and played a role to help the team succeed. Their roles were all interchangeable and it was a next cab off the rank setup where the gameplan did not bend to individuals within it.

I can guarantee our 'weak' list would look a hell of a lot stronger if we had a repeatable and feasible gameplan.

Jones out for Rat, play Finlayson as the third defender.
Burton for Soldo/Lord, we need another focal point and chop out Ruckman. I lean towards Lord, personally. We aren’t winning a flag so get games into Lord.
Mead/SPP/Berry the sub, really unsure.

But we know the players will be backed in, no changes and win by 4 goals against a brave Richmond, be unconvincing and the discussion swept under the carpet yet again, the narrative won’t favour either side of the debate and we plug on another few weeks. Via La 3 & 7 after 10 ‘rounds’
