Autopsy Round 20, 2024 : Hawks murder Crows

What I'm liking during this run, we are not taking the foot off the throat. It's going to put us in good stead when we are competing.
A bit like the impact of the pies comebacks - teams expect it and play not to lose/get blown out, rather than planning to win. It is something that the likes of Carlton and freo aren't experiencing

Holy moly, that was about as professional a performance as we've seen from Hawthorn for a long time.

Again we probably left a few out there. Just such an even performance from the side.

The way in the first quarter a lot on here and myself had the feeling we were just hanging on and were in trouble, to weather that and only go in at qtr time a goal down, was a great sign, were we could have gone in down a few goals.

To then go on with it after qtr time reminded me of how many time in the 3peat years when a club threw everything at us we weathered it then smashed them.

Had we held on against Port, Hawks would be on 48 points, Port on 44. We would be in the 8
And there probably holding their breath they don't play us again seeing the way we have gone since than. We are not just a competitive battler were a legit monster right now.
The ladder is wild.

Hawks are ONE win off 8th, but TWO wins off 2nd. Just ridiculously close.
Percentage out of 8th.

I hope those last 2 goals don't cost us a finals spot. I'm Nitpicking but we need to close games right out till the siren. May have been 1 per cent but not the point. Pies lost 2 per cent late in their match because they eased off as an example.

Noice win. Nice to be 9th. Percentage outside the eight again. We win against GWS next week and likely inside the eight for the first time this season. Nice to have Sic get two goals for his 150th, didn’t have too much impact in the backline but played okay. Wizard is on a roll, playing amazing footy. Ginni not as influential as last week but still good with a couple goals, and Newc having a bit more of a downlow game, but still making an impact; hope the haircuts haven’t impacted their playing. Breust and Moore nice up forward, Calsher with some nice marks and good pressure, Chol playing some of his best footy. CMac getting goals and 14 score involvements, Impey with the Siu again, playing great as always, Frosty and Weddle going great, Amon and Nash having great games. Second half of the first qtr wasn’t great but other than that played great contested footy, took our opportunities and just outplayed the Crows all over, keeping them to only 3 goals after the first. Preferably need to win 3 of the next 4, looking like a great chance for September at the moment. Next up, GWS at Manuka, probably the hardest game in our run home. Should be a good one, can’t wait. So proud of the boys today, seemed like it was gonna be a back and forth close one, but once we really started playing great footy we didn’t stop, and there was no chance for the crows to catch us. Can’t wait to see what else we can do this year. Sam would have to be in contention for coach of the year, after bringing us back from the brink. Go the Hawks!

At the game today.
Exciting first qtr.
Tackling in close, hawks handballed behind for space. Run handball broke lines and drew defenders to then and kicked over defenders to forwards out back.
MacDonald dangerous, dear great competitor, which - speed, chol knew to o brines throat at the centre bounces, meek solid contributor, tackling in back line brilliant.
Great game plan.
Nicksie - great guy but what is the game plan.

100%.

I didn't want to say it but it reminded me of the 3peat years, we were hunted, brushed them off and then had our way with them.

Oh I forgot to mention the other noticeable thing in todays game Jai new hairstyle - did him and ginni have a hairdresser meeting during the week.

Adelaide Oval demons from earlier this year were exorcised. The team went in with confidence and after quarter time, wrestled control of the game away from the Crows and took them to the cleaners.
Highlights:
Will Day was enormous in the first half - whether through the midfield, forward or going back to help control the game, Daysy was sublime.
Croc savaged the crows - 28 touches with 14 score involvements and three goal assists - every second touch resulted in a Hawthorn score.
Dear crashing packs and hitting the scoreboard is reward for all his effort.
Mabior Chol continues to do some incredible things - kicks goals, pressures in defence and his little deft tap ons are incredibly beneficial.
Watson wows again - kid is growing in his role as a small forward and is part of the reason we are prime time.
Impey’s run and dash in the last three quarters made the ground bigger and meant we ran the crows off their feet.
Weddle taking off for a mark or taking off for a run makes you cheer like you’re at the races - the kid just excites.
Dylan Moore continues to roll his sleeves up and do the hard work while also using his touches to bring others into the game.
Sicily kicking a double in the last quarter was just reward for the Skipper in game 150.

Bring on the Giant challenge next week, this team will continue to rise to meet it 🤎💛

We are playing GWS at Manuka Oval in Canberra where it can snow.
