We need to get that fast flow on gameplan that all the best teams have got where you give your forwards a one on one or get them out in open space.

We chip it around too much so the opposition flood our forward 50 or when we try and go fast we turn it over as we don't have the skills to hit targets.

First game I watched in person this year. Thought Long may have played his best match. Couldn’t tell much else of the game.

Was sitting with the Sydney cheer squad or near enough. Pretty boring end as far as the game was concerned. Bit disappointed Hanners didn’t come down to the Sydney game after the match.

The score line was okay. Thought we played better than Sydney for a fair part of the game, but naturally we can’t kick a goal.

Max King did well. He was still flipping the ball around. Hopefully he gets some real guidance in the off season.

Win, lose or draw, I do love posting here. I do feel I hit a low point and went way too negative in the last couple of months, but I really love the differences in opinions here.

I think we are a good game plan away from being a top 4 side. Our list isn’t that bad, we just can’t put it together.

Umpiring had nothing to do with us losing today or missing the finals
I never said tonight only nor did I say it was the reason for missing finals.

But sometimes it’s like pushing sh*t uphill.
Year after year we are in the bottom three or so for frees for.
I think it was Joffaboy who posted the stats a week or so ago.
It’s telling - and it all adds up.

Tell me you agreed with these off the top of my head from tonight:

King‘s free against for push in the back when he clearly had a hand around the players waist while trying to tackle.
Sincs free being reversed when it’s done by players all the time
No 50 paid on the goal line for obvious and prolonged dissent from a Swans player who hit the ball into the behind post

The standard of umpiring has generally been poor this year - wonder if it’ll improve next season with four on the field?

Someone has a roast chicken on the train
Only kind of half-watched the game but a few thoughts...

- I'd love Higgins to go away and have a huge pre-season and make a case for a midfield-forward role. He's not a great kick for goal, I don't really feel like we make the most of his skills such as his ability in traffic. He has potential that isn't being realised.

- We've seen what Max King is. Let's get some help around him, I can't deal with another season of him carrying our forward line on his own.

- I hope Hunter Clark can rest and recouperate. It's not really a surprise he pinged a hammy today because he has looked barely fit for most of the year. Such a wasted season for him, we need him consistently on the park next year.

- I thought Paton had a good game and has improved lately, look forward to seeing what he can do next year.

- I'd like to see a different approach to our attitude to the umpires. Honestly we get destroyed almost every game, can the coach just start coming out and saying "it's not good enough". How about when Franklin ran about a metre over the mark and didn't get a 50? The in the back against King. The reversal against Sinclair. Seriously I can remember one game this year (Hawthorn mk2) where we got the rub of the green. It's exhausting.

- Sincs was wonderful today. What a season he has had.

- Campbell was pretty good but Marshall wasted as a forward.

- I just feel like we need more top-quality contributors. We need some guys to take steps, Higgins as I mentioned, Clark, Coff hopefully brings it next year, Marshall, Gresh. We lack top quality and we need more guys to join Sincs and Steele. Mostly we need guys that can play well in the midfield week in week out.

- It has been a disappointing season, no doubt about it. In the end 12 wins would have got us finals, and we should have made it. But more than just looking to finals, we need to figure out how to really take the next step and be a competitive finals team and push towards top four. It will be interesting to see the changes we make over the off-season, we can't just roll out the same again and expect different results.
Didn’t Higgins look like some midget Dustin Martin at junior level? 4847482892 touches a game and kicking goals for fun?

If we kick 3 goals 1 point in the 1st 15 minutes instead of 1- 3
That made more difference to the result then the umps

Might be just me but Dougal Howard is so irritating to watch. I get we need that big full back, but he really has to show more than a few spoils. Lately he has been missing and costing us goals. He just comes across as lazy.

Two pretty genuine efforts in the final fortnight, some bright moments along the way, but our worst is still far, far too poor. Feels like we’ve been saying that for how long now…

Congratulations to Jack Sinclair winning the BnF by about four Flemington straights, terrific year.
Maybe 2 Flemington straights. Wilkie also had a very good year.

Sincs was there
If you're not a Saints fan lol
Happens many times a game. Was silly from Sincs but how often do they pay it. Seem to remember Tom Lynch shoving a few heads inot the ground over the past few years. Knee in Doug’s neck whilst lying on the ground. The name players get away with a lot.

As I said, I’m not just referring to tonight.

Look at it over the season and tell me the (substantial) free kick differentials between clubs doesn’t make a difference. Never said it has to be even either, but when your club gets the raw end of the deal year, after year, after year, you have to think there’s some kind of issue.

Spot on. From the “nOt FiFtEeN”s to crap like that.
How many goals would Max kick if he was given Buddy’s silver service from the umps.
Sincs is as clean a player as you’ll get and performed a minuscule act done dozens of times a game, and they pulled a reversal out of a dark place.

I don't at the minute, maybe because its still so fresh but have zero faith in our coaching box not just Ratts . the next 6 months ? its his 4th year next year. We look lost on the field and in the coaching box just miles away from it. What is the style/ brand of footy he is trying to implement ? its 4 years outdated. He wont be coaching 2024 and we will be starting again
Do you listen to his press conferences? If you did then you would realise that we go slow when we are making the mistakes to stop the oppsition from kicking 10 goals on us. At the start of the season we were much quicker at turning that aspect around and then it fell away and the player looked devoid of confidence.
The gameplan is pretty good, it's the execution that is lacking. It worked well in parts tonight but it took to long to get the momentum back, wasted a whole quarter.

Dard Ball Get look at the tongue on it

And therein lies the problem.
When we chip it around to slow things down we pretty much always land up turning it over as we don’t aways hit our targets.
Played better in the beginning of the year and in the quarters when we went helter skelter.

Mr Noble sir, I’m available as an assistant coach if you need me 🤣

Last two weeks there’s been no question about the effort the boys have put in, many many very large questions about how they’re being asked to play. Seems clear the biggest problem is in the coaching box. Luckily that’s the easiest to do something about, so let’s hope Bassat sees that too.

One thing I’ve been impressed with Max Espescially in the second half of the year has been his improvement in ground ball snaps for goal. For someone his size it’s a serious point of difference. Now it’s all about his set shots and he’ll be a star.

The umpires punish Sinclair and Wilkie for taking the piss when they couldn’t dissent
