Round 3:- Blues V Bombers pre match discussion

It was an honest mistake the second time at least. We helped with the probe and legal advice said we acted rightly and fairly.

Still doesn't explain this though

You pricks have 2 Flags that have been won by 'rorting' the salary cap ...

The AFL has charged Essendon with breaching the salary cap during the 2002 season.

In 1999 Essendon was fined around $280,000 for salary cap breaches between 1992 and 1996.

Please explain Celtic

Well to be fair to me, I don't bother walking into Moron central and reading the drivel on the Essendon board.

Surely you know by now that every-time we play, a group of your users come onto our board and a group of our users come on here as a response?

It makes the build up to the game better IMO. As you said, came 11pm Saturday night one group of supporters are gonna look like dicks, but it's all part of the fun....

I just hope you guys don't take anything we said serious....(Well, I know you won't, but just wanna make sure...)

A word of warning to any Essendon supporter (or supporter of any other club for that matter) who wishes to post in this thread. Post within the rules of the board, or you will receive a minimum of a yellow card, regardless of any previous infraction-free history. You will also have your access to our board removed.

If the Blues are a decent outfit they should beat the Bombers. Whether you rate our list or not, I feel we're probably in a similar boat to Carlton of '08, we will win games and look a million bucks and in other games will look like a bottom 4 team.

If by chance we do beat Carlton, and it is not outside the realms of possibility, it would certainly do wonders to the confidence of our inexperienced line-up and would also give great impetus for the ensuing weeks as we take on North Melbourne, Collingwood and Brisbane... another 3 teams we defeated in 2008.

By all means Carlton supporters have a right to feel confident going into the game Saturday night but be wary that Essendon, despite popular opinion, has very few players that are being carried, we have a very even list... we do not however have a marquee player and I feel this is one of the major factors in our list being so maligned by the "experts".

Watson and Hocking in particular are more workhorses than anything but they have the necessary toughness on the ball at stoppages to give ANY opposition midfield headaches. Add to that the polish of a supremely fit and confident Lovett, who I predict should by season's be regarded as one of the premier outside midfielders, and the return of Mark McVeigh and we have a very competent midfield. It does not have the names of Judd or Gibbs et al but it will get the job done more often than not.

Our backline is rock solid, an area that was rather vulnerable in '08, Pears was fantastic on Pavlich, Fletcher was amongst the BOG, Daniher, Dempsey and Quinn provided fantastic run and Slattery, although gives away sloppy free kicks, will be at the very least accountable for Eddie Betts.

Carlton should win but do not underestimate our list. People question our depth without looking at the fact we used more players than any other club in 2008 and still managed to defeat nearly half the competition (7 teams - 2 of which top 8 teams).

Good luck and I hope it's a fantastic game - I hope to see you there! :thumbsu:

Same. I'll be in jeans and a Carlton scarf.

Oh my god. I left here deleting a few posts, and then come back a few hours later, and I can see that mediumsizered has had a fair bit of work to do here. Can we please keep this thread to useful discussion, and not a pissing contest like so many of these threads turn into on our Board.

It this thread continues in the same manner as it has been this evening, we will close it straight away.

I look forward to a good game. Honestly, Carlton should win, BUT in these games you never know.

I dont think Fev will have much of an influence on the game to be honest, but with the delivery from Carltons midfield you just never know.

David Hille should smash Kreuzer and Jacobs, and Hille and Watson are the best clearence pairing so far this year, so we have a good chance of winniinglots of clearences.

And with Jameison out, we will be looking to stretch your defense. I'd expect Neagle to come back in, or Bellchambers to come in and Ryder to play forward.

As for pace in the midfield, I think we have you covered. Lovett, Winderlich and Dyson should be able to burn of fall of Carltons mids (correct me if im wrong, but none of Carltons mids are overly quick over distance).

McPhee is a big loss for us this week. Dont know who can play his role. Hopefully Knights will open his eyes and realise Lloyd is better when he is played close to goal.

Carltons midfield is far better than ours, and its not possible to tag everyone that deserves a tag. They should smash ours, but with first use of the pill, we might just break even.

Either way should be a good close match. I hope its not a blow out either way, and hopefully Essendon can pull off something remarkable to help celebrate my 21st :D

essendon are floaters and have too many significant injuries for us not to beat them. we are too smart to get pipped like we did last year.

it will be a slight repeat of round 1- prediction 50 points.

He is. 3 weeks or 2 if he admits to being a shit-for-brains chicken ****er.

he has demerit points overhanging....which means he cant get off at all unless he totally beats the charge......best case is 1 week!!!

This is a massive danger game. The Dons list is quite poor at the moment, but they tend to play way above themselves when they play us. Losing to them twice last year was just bizarre, so now's the time for some payback. I just can't see any area where they could trouble us. The Dons have statistically the worse defense in the AFL in 2008, and it looks exactly the same this year. Their midfield is still terrible, with Jobe Watson still defaulting to the best they have. We need to force Jobe to kick the footy, because he can't. Most of his disposals are by hand for a reason. The Dons forwardline now looks in disarray. Matty Lloyd should have retired last year, and now the Dons are forced to play him because he's the Captain. It's actually sad seeing a former star of the game going through this phase. Perhaps it's more insightful to remind us why we lost 2 games against this rabble last year. In the first game our gameplan was grossly flawed and the coach got it wrong, and admitted it afterwards. We played attacking footy and applied ZERO defensive pressure. It the second game they just wanted the footy more than we did, and were first at the contests and showed more desire. We almost pinched that game, but we didn't deserve to. This year i'ts all changed. The list talent advanatage has extended further, our skills have improved massively, gameplan more sophisticated, and defensive pressure is an obsession. This team is ferocious and skillful. We are well setup to deliver the Dons a solid thumping. It's due. :)
