Round 3: Changes Vs St Kilda

Bit surprised Ross went back to the same well with Duman and Matera. There's still Carter, North, Bewley, Sturt, Valente (if fit), Watson who we don't know about.

Does Ross think the rebuild is finished?

I certainly hope not.

If Cerra, Hughes, Wilson, Conca, Pearce, Ryan and Hamling can't hold down the back 6 what will picking Duman add?

Very strange.

Agreed...... your post is very strange

Going back to the well with Duman ?

You realise he was out of the same draft as Cox , Darcy , Ryan etc and has played the least games out of all of that years crop bar maybe Louge who has been injured

If you don't like him fire away but going back to the well ?

Very strange

I think the guys you mentioned are not ready and will get destoyed at AFL level. Probably not do anyone any good, especially the player.

Some young players are just ready before others so don't let any preconceived bias come into it. The changes are excellent.

I like Duman just fine, but we've already picked 7 defenders and Tucker and Banfield who can go back. You don't need to pick 10 defenders in a team of 22 unless you're having a look at someone.

We know what Duman can do and, more importantly, what he can't.

We're at home agains St Kilda - what better time? How about we find out if Carter is the next Andrew McLeod, Velente the next Simon Black or Sturt the next Peter Daicos?

We are finding out about them at WAFL level. Bewley I think is injured. The only ones in the list you mentioned who might be an alternative to Duman are Carter (18 y.o. and still learning the trade) and Watson who is a possibility but needs to tighten up a bit on his defence. Switkowski is coming off an injury and played a blinder, so he will come in for Matera next week unless Matera lifts his game. Sturt is very slight and needs time getting used to playing against mature bodies. He was hurt in the previous two games he played, although he seemed to get through yesterday OK. Valente played Peel reserves yesterday, so is still a way away from an AFL game. North was OK in and under, but I didn't see him do anything that screamed "pick me".

Hopefully all these guys will get a game at some point, but I'm not keen to see us give up on this season so early. Let's try to stay in the running until we start getting a few soldiers back / fit and see where it goes. They will get their chance if and when they earn it.

Wasn't he injured yesterday? Match report has him as a hip injury.

North apparently very good yesterday as well (26 poss, 5 marks and 10 tackles) - named in the best. Sounds like it was a cracking game.

Yeah, not sure about Switta. He collided heavily with Nyhuis just before 3/4 time and was taken off for the last quarter. I saw him later and he was rubbing his backside / hip so I suspect it's just a corkie, he did not look bad to me. Probably a TBA :)

North's statistics look good and I am a big fan, but his game yesterday (along with Crowden and Giro) was high on stats and low on impact. I took particular notice of those three because I am desperate for someone to stand up as a midfield option, but I wouldn't reward any of them on yesterday's game. Of the three I think North has the most upside, but needs to string a couple of really dominant WAFL performance together and FORCE them to pick him. If Switta is fit I can assure you he did exactly that yesterday, and Nyhuis was pretty close as well.

Yes, a genuine inside mid would be ideal. Jye Bolton's game at Claremont yesterday screamed Mid-season draft. Smallwood good again as well if we're still looking for a small forward.

Would you consider bringing in Nyhuis in next week specifically to counter Ryan or Jetta?

I would. I think you need a small defender specialist for WC.
