Re: Preview and Discussion Round 3 Richmond v Hawthorn

Confirmed Ellis in for Rioli, surprise surprise.

Re: Preview and Discussion Round 3 Richmond v Hawthorn

dissapointed with this, puopolo has been performing better than ellis at box hill and deserved the crack. Also would have liked to have swapped speed for speed especially against a young and fast tigers team.

Re: Preview and Discussion Round 3 Richmond v Hawthorn

Guerra, Whitecross and Puopolo named as emergencies. Bench is Hale, Savage, Suckling and Ellis, so one of those will be the sub, you'd reckon. This is the first time that Hale has been named on the bench, so maybe they are thinking about making him sub and only having one ruckman on at a time after seeing how well we went with Renouf on the pine in the second half.

Ellis deserves his spot, so I'm happy with the side. Lewis named in a forward pocket, so maybe they are planning on having him play the defensive forward role again. On paper you'd have to say it should be an easy match for us, but we've had a lot of close ones with Richmond in recent years, and the Tiges have shown a bit in the first couple of weeks. Without going so far as to call this a 'danger game' I'd hope the boys bring their absolute 'A' game, as we need the points. The increased competition for spots should also help to ensure that no one goes into this one coasting.

Re: Preview and Discussion Round 3 Richmond v Hawthorn

There's been a lot of people saying that Ellis deserves the spot. What are people basing this on?

Re: Preview and Discussion Round 3 Richmond v Hawthorn

It's beyond ridiculous that Ellis has been given the call up. Pup Has performed better at box hill and deserves a spot over Ellis. Ellis is the most overrated player on this forum the only decent game he played was the grand
Final and if it wernt for a few lucky bounces we would be looking at his game alot diffenrt. He's not big enough, strong enough. Fast enough and has shit skills. Terrible draft blunder.

Re: Preview and Discussion Round 3 Richmond v Hawthorn

Just when i thought they may be selecting players on form, rather than reputation. Pup has been Box Hill's best 2-3 weeks in a row. Ellis ran around last weekend not having much of an impact, kicking floater after floater.

Re: Preview and Discussion Round 3 Richmond v Hawthorn

Offers not alot at all Ellis. He will be the sub you'd assume, so don't think it will be a massive issue.

Should have unleashed Isaac in this game I reckon.:)

Re: Preview and Discussion Round 3 Richmond v Hawthorn

Lance Franklin Vs Dave Astbury

Jarryd Roughead Vs Dylan Grimes

Prepare to be dominated Hawkers :p

(wouldn't mind getting some career statistical comparisons)

Re: Preview and Discussion Round 3 Richmond v Hawthorn

Ellis will be playing for his career this season. Would be expecting a pretty desperate player on Saturday night.

He would be thinking that he has be make the most of this opportunity.

Guerra would be pissed off too.

Nice to have depth!:)

Ellis was BOG 2 weeks ago, better than Puopolo.

You asked me the same question the other day Hodginator. I am not sure if you saw my reasoning. If you didn't, go to page 11 #163, I think, of the "preview" thread. I would be interested in your thoughts on my response.

Re: Teams & Discussion. Hawthorn Vs Richmond

Ok possible reasons for ellis instead of say smith or pops

1. Knows and executes gameplan better
2. Has been playing midfield for box hill so like for like substitution
3. Better kick than pops (this is subjective)
4. Can kick a goal as demonstrated last year.

Re: Teams & Discussion. Hawthorn Vs Richmond

I would have liked to see:

Out: Renouf , Rioli

In: Lisle, Puopolo/Ellis

Either ellis or pup is fine as replacement for rioli. But Renouf...really? It bewilders me how he continues to get games.

I'd like to see Hale as the primary specialist ruckman and Roughy relieving him in the ruck. That was what turned the game last week, Lisle is in there as the tall forward when Roughy goes into the ruck/bench.

Once again I think we are behind the times playing 2 specialist ruckman, one of whom can't even break even in the ruck.

Re: Teams & Discussion. Hawthorn Vs Richmond

What is it with all the posts criticising Ellis?

And the choice is obvious:

  • Ellis: midfielder & small forward replaces Cyril, midfielder & small forward.
  • Puopolo: small defender ?
