Membrey playing at Sandy isn’t about earning it, but rather about playing a game for the first time in seven months. He didn’t play any practice matches, so needs a run to get up to speed.

It’s not like RTB needs to see whether the guy can play football at all.

In contrast, Steele will be straight back in next week, as he’s only missed a few weeks.

Also, we are travelling a day earlier than we usually would so should still have a big training session today. If Membrey didn't tick everything off in the first session this week, it makes sense to not travel with him and potentially have him not play this weekend. Better to get the game into him (on a surface that hasn't been torn up with 5 previous games) and have him ready to go for Carlton.

It's now going to be interesting to see if Steely does in fact play against the Blues.

The confusion surrounding Members availability this week has me wondering how Ross could have been so emphatic about Steely being available for the Blues match without even qualifying his claim by stating Steely would have to pass a fitness test.

I will be shocked if Steely plays against the Blues.

Ross did say Steel will come in for the Blues. as said above, Steele has played the first few games, won't go to the VFL, and Unless there is a set back will come in. Unlike Membrey has not played a game at all this season. Not sure what should or will happen with King.

Yeah an intriguing one, last year he took 5 weeks to get back, and arguably he wasn't the same player for the remainder of the season.

If he does play against the Blues it's an even quicker turn around by a week, just feels like it's being rushed unnecessarily considering it's a re injury of the same shoulder and area of the bones which would lead you to assume to be more conservative this time around.

I just hope our early wins aren't tempting a rushed situation.

Or Cordy or Paton or Byrnes

By all reports it’s going to be a capacity crowd against the pies.

It’s the showcase game on the weekend.

That’s an experience the kid needs and wants.

Let him play from the first bounce. There is more to gain allowing him to experience these games then dropping him or starting him as a sub.

Probably makes more sense to ruck Owens with Membrey back.
Penmanship CHF Z. Cordy's time to shine on the big stage is this Sunday.

Cordy is the lowest ranked player in our side. Blakey was a heart and soul battler that did everything to a high standard while being good rather than elite. Cordy would have to make a quantum leap to go anywhere near his quality but I get what you are saying Bruce was more showman than a disciplined type.

Cordy has a grand final medallion.

He's doing his job for us and winning games.

Couldn't ask for more.

Ross said Steele will play next week, that is to put all players in the midfield on notice for this week a sly shot across the bow, a way to get a reaction without saying out load.

I just stopped in on the Carlton board. Boy are they upset.
Is it just me or are they us from last year? Their game plan just seems way off it at the moment. Bombing long to the two gun forwards doesn't work these days.
I bloody hope that when King and members come back it doesn't upset our game style.

You should listen to SEN right now. They are the worst bunch of supporters. They turn on there team so quickly

All good, I understood your point re Members having not played hence needing some match conditioning.

My point is, I find it interesting Ross was 'emphatic' Steely would play next week only 4 weeks after the injury, specifically I noted he didn't qualify the claim by stating he will take the doctors advise and/or his availability will also be subject to successful completion of the normal testing.

So not suggesting he has to come back via some conditioning at VFL level, suggesting it feels like his return is being rushed.

I just hope Steely doesn't feel he has to rush his return to prove he isn't a 9/10 Captain in the eyes of Ross.

If it was up to Steele. He would be playing this week.

I don’t know why he would come straight back to directly answer that point.

But what I can share is that Ross uses Steele as his standard setter. RTB rides him some times.

I think that’s worked really well in lifting the standard of the group and he would want that on match day.

Also Steele is arguably our best player. So there is that 😂

But all their players are guns 🙄

They talk up their list as something that should be top 4.

I’m adamant (maybe blinkered. I ****ing hate them) that it isn’t that good.

They have guns and then lots of shit.

and Steele is captain as well.

That's why I mentioned Ross's comment that was mentioned in the media where apparently Ross rated Steely as a 9/10 player but said he likes his Captains to be 10/10.

I just hope our early wins aren't intoxicating individuals to take unnecessary risks, just seems way to soon to return considering he took 5 weeks last year and was arguable not right for the remainder of the year.

The fact it was a fairly innocuous collision injury that re injured his shoulder you'd just think the smart thing to do is not try and be a hero and take the conservative approach and look at the long game.

ESPECIALLY if Ross genuinely believes this is still an exploration year, why rush things if he genuinely believes that still

I think the fact it seems Membrey is going to the magoos this week and trust me when I say King could have played around 1 shows us that no one is being rushed back.

I reckon Steele has been held back a week if anything.
We seem to be uber conservative with injuries this year

Steele played 2 games and will have only missed 3 but the upside of a shoulder injury is that he could still run (maintain fitness). He knows the on-field system and was a key part of it the first fortnight. So he slots straight back in next week. Fresh legs will also help against Blues.

Membrey hasn't played in any form since Ratten was coaching and is coming back from a knee injury (restricted running load for a while). He doesn't yet fully know the on-field system. Needs a bit of time in the VFL.

Hard to argue with the logic when you think about it like that. Initially surprised by the Membrey decision but makes sense the more you think about it. Back the guys who have been getting it done.

Yeah you've been consistent about your belief King could have returned in R1, it's confused me ever since why he hasn't

I remember Lyon also saying Members would be good for R1, something about a clicking knee when getting in and out of his car.

Boy am I happy we don't have Acres on our team anymore. His couple of good plays per match are no where near enough to outweigh all the dross and brain fades.

But more importantly, if Carlton appoints Lyon then he is extracting a whole lot more from their 5-8 passengers, and their elite players are probably driving them into serious premiership contention.

He wanted to play round 1.

Club wanted to hold him back for Gather round.

Throw in a small Hammy and more loading and you probably see him somewhere between rounds 8-10 now
