Three times he has had the ball in the clear, chose the right option of a teammate in the clear, and three times missed the target, once by hand twice by foot. The only defence he has is one of confidence, he does not trust himself... so plays the safe option and tries to put the ball in the right spot.

Don't question his commitment.
