+3 on the GriffEn train.
Love the guy, set me apart last year.

Ellis > Lloyd
Tyson > Griffen

120k for another downgrade upgrade next week.
Hopefully rookie rears their head this round.
Maybe Dunstan > Hallahan, Langdon > Hibberd.

Also i'm passing on Crouch. May be crazy but I can't really afford another R8mid and Im sort of love watching rookies chosen by the masses and hoping they will fail. It either causer major depression or a super high - I'm willing to take that chance.

Nope, starting 6. She had Laidler's 95 in Rd 1 who was traded out shortly after
Rd 1 - 714
Rd 2 - 652
Rd 3 - 600
Rd 4 - 648
Rd 5 - 519 (still scored 2401 would have gone top 10 in weekly high score if they scored like prev weeks)
Average: 626.6

The different structures are interesting. I'm currently ranked 526th but took a completely different route with my defense.

My 2 premo, 6 rookie defence (until I added Birchall on the wekend) is averaging about 450-475. Hence the need to get in Hanley & Simpson asap for McDonald & Langdon before the byes over a discounted premo mid like Griffen or Swan and wait for Pendles & Jelwood until round 8 is over.

My Sandi/Hampson ruck combo & Dangerfield/Parker/Martin/Gunston/Zorko/Darling forward combo (and Hickey & Higgins waiting to be cashed in over the next 2 weeks to fund upgrades) has more than made up the difference whilst avoiding the ruck and forward line carnage that has plagued others. I guess I got lucky with my initial selections. Parker over Buddy/Titch, Gunston over Roughy, Darling over Caddy, Sloane over anybody etc. but done my fair amount of research preseason.

The teams that went in with only 2 or 3 premo mids were killing it but are now going backwards as the rookie mid scores regress to the mean.

This week will be double downgrades for me (thinking Ellis>Robertson & Dunstan>Lloyd, gotta keep that cash rolling in or get left behind funding upgrades over the next month or two) whilst others are getting a premo in. I'm hoping just to hold ground in my ranking until round 8 is over and I can trade in Pendles & Jelwood. I'll be going into round 8 with the bare 18 players so I'll get smashed that round but have allocated 1 trade to avoid a donut if need be.

What are possible downgrade options in the midfield next week?
My current trades are almost set, which are the following

Ellis > Roberston
Impey > Llloyd

Unless someone can steer me towards some rookies on the bubble next week i may consider bringing in Griffin a week early.
Just seems like its the week the double downgrade rather than upgrade.

Never too late to start bye planning.
Havent looked or thought about byes at all till today, and by either dumb luck or as my boss calls it- good management, I think I'm in relatively good shape.
By making 2 trades I was planning on doing anyway (dunstan to cripps next week and kelly to duckwood rnd 9) and not doing any funny stuff with dpp etc. I'll have:
18 players rnd 8
20 players rnd 9
18 players rnd 10

Of course I'm sure others will have been picking their teams with the view of making sure that they have at least 20 over each bye round... but I don't like having to compromise on the players I want for the whole year, just because of a few weeks.

I'll likely end up doing more than those 2 trades over the next month I know, but I'm just glad that it's panned out ok this year and im not likely to lose 100, 000 spots in the overall. :)

Hmmm having too many changes of mind:

currently Ellis to Lloyd (via Lewis Taylor to mids)
leaves me about 195K in the bank

Am now thinking out Tmitchell and bring in Hibberd (If Tmit is not named he is 95% goneski)

if he is named I'll have headache central

trouble is i dont like any of the other rookie options
maybe robertson but lions players............

I like what I saw from Billings on the weekend. He's going into my team for Caddy. Having the worst season I've ever had so just gotta try to build steadily and save some trades for finals.

Griffen got injured half way through the 53 game so that accounts for that score (ended up missing 3 or 4 weeks after that), in his 78 game, he copped a heavy Van Berlo tag from memory who wont be playing, although I can see Kerridge getting the job on him. Even if he scores a 130 he'll only go up around $15k so if the priority is to grab the last batch of viable rookies before the byes, then that should take precedence. If you're desperate for Swan, then this week is the week to get him in.

Personally I'll be going with Griffen for two reasons a. much better bye and b. not supercoach related but is a much better player who wins truckloads of his own ball under heavy pressure who I can actively cheer for and not feel dirty about doing it (unlike that seagull swan swine).

Was about to like your post before your Swan jibe. Usually I just ignore it, but it seems a constant with you.
If you want to keep insulting Collingwood and it's players (I understand the hate), take it over to Bay 13, we'd love to have you.

In the meantime, please just stick to talking SC on here.

FWIW I totally agree with your points on Griffen.

238k in the bank. Obviously need to get Lloyd in, probably at the expense of Ellis. Which will leave me with close to 400k for my other trade.

The tough part is there is so many ways I can go, do I bring in a fallen premium like Griffen or Swan? or do I jump on a rookie (Robertson) and upgrade big in the coming weeks?

Tyson > Robertson
Dunstan > Robertson
Tyson > Griffen
Tyson > Swan
Dunstan > Griffen
Dunstan > Swan

All my mid pricers or rookies have low or negative B/E's (Fasolo, Higgins, JKH, Taylor, Crouch, Aish, Polec, Laidler, McDonald, Langdon, Langford), son don't want to be trading them out just yet.

My original plan was to bring in Robertson and Lloyd this week then Cloke and Griffen next week, but I'm struggling in my leagues with so much money in the kitty, so may have to bring in a prem but I dunno.

This week:
Ellis > Lloyd
Tyson > Robertson

Next week:
Dunstan > Swan
Aish > Griffen

Thoughts?
I would upgrade one of your rooks to a premo.
Ellis/Tyson/Dunstan all have high b/e's.
How many trades have you used? Only ask because we cant keep downgrading we have to upgrade at some point.

Hang on to Mitch at least for now. After a rest he may be a good option in the middle for the Swans going forward.

or i can just grab SJ for Mitch this week.........
Burn a trade, fair enough.

Can't see Titch coming good this year. Something's up, and the longer we wait for him to perform, the further down the rankings we go.

I grabbed Fasolo for him, the trade helped me get back into the top 400, and I won't look back.

Getting SJ for him is a quality trade. Giddy up.

Contrary to my Carlton supporting brethren, Swanny is my 2nd favourite player behind Murph. How can anyone not love the Fantasy Pig? I've had the C on him every week this year in DT to the detriment of my team most weeks mind you, but I will stick fat because when he Oinks, he Oinks like no other! :)

Wow. Would not have thought that. Swallow/Grimes/Suckling must have scored well at different times. AFAIK only Langdon (in round 1) has tonned it up of the other three.

I'm very jealous of that team. Judd_Magic would almost sell himself to swap ;)

For those of you in my shoes who are wondering who future potential downgrade targets are (i've only made two downgrades so far), these up and comers could provide some value in the not to distant future:

Ben Lennon (Richmond, FWD) $162,300 - 28 possessions, 16 marks Vs Williamstown on the weekend

Mitch Honeychurch (Western Bulldogs, FWD/MID) $117,300 - Named in the best two weeks for Footscray VFL team, and has slotted 4 goals in his first three games

Ben Newton (Port Adelaide, MID) $123,900 - Pick 35 in the 2010 draft, injury riddled first two years, classy left footer who has been in terrific nick in the two's, racking up 33 disposals, 14 clearances and 2 goals

Christian Salem (Melbourne, MID) $177,300 - Last years pick 9, building some good form for Casey Scorpions, 23 touches and a goal on the weekend

Zach Merrett (Essendon, FWD) $117,300 - Was always going to be well managed, but his VFL form has been very solid, and will play around 10 games for the year
Great post!!

Will most likely stay clear of Lennon and Salem. Too expensive for this time of the year IMO unless they ton it up in the first two weeks. Newton is an interesting one.

Drugs. Why have you jumped off SJ??

Ellis -> Lloyd
Titch -> SJ

No brainer. Make the trades and give me your login and I'll change your password until Friday :)

Because he's been hanging out the back with JM. I don't understand the hurry to get premo defenders in. Last year, every premo Def except Goddard lost shitloads of value at one stage or another. I'll pick up another 2 Def premo's sooner or later, but only when they're 450K or less.
