I call bullshit, it was loud as on TV, and as for your I was at the ground comment, I had payed for my reserved seat and was sick on Friday,
In any case Booing is childish and pathetic and it had nothing to do with us

You can say that it was loud based on the TV but at the ground it wasn't. They can mix out crowd noise out and mix it so that it sounds louder. I'm telling you we sat on level 3 and it was there but it was a small percentage of the crowd. We had no one in our area doing it and it seemed to be coming from the mid or lower tiers but still only a small amount of people. There were times that the crowd got really loud but the booing never did. It was almost like a few people taking the piss. The more they make it a thing the longer it goes on.

Madness of crowds writ large…

Using the us versus them principle, Kent Hinkley has probably used the issue to motivate JHF and the team….

probably some of the loudest crowds I've ever heard while watch AFL on the TV was during the COVID lockdowns when only cardboard cutouts were allowed to attend, those crowds were incredibly noisy and created so much atmosphere.

Was in AFL members effectively outside the Victory room. It was getting pretty feral in the first qtr supporting the club. No booing apparent for JHF could be barely heard coming from elsewhere but not from a predominantly passionate Saints area.

We attempted some fancy stuff in the first and thought gees we are a bit overconfident with our ball use....like we stopped doing the basics which got us to the top of the ladder and started doing the showy stuff...we are a beer skilled team not a champagne one.

5 day break showed up we were half a step off the pace all night. As we know as you get tired your thinking goes the same way....bomb it to the big blokes starts to be the easy option.

Hinckley was playing a tall if not two behind the ball in the last half. That leaves us plus 2 around the ball. We only used a midfield handball chain once resulting with Hunters long bomb in the last. RTB will focus on this as the way through this defensive style as we had not faced that.....we will get more of it now....

Think this is the loss we had to have.

We were beaten up around the ball. They were bigger and were more vigorous at the contest in the second and third....which got them back into the game. But not the reason we lost...we could not convert our forward entries.

North next week will want to fly the flag after poor performance against Melb. We need to smack them sooooo hard and go hard all day no mercy no stopping in the last.

Make a statement tp the comp as clubs are watching us very closely looking for weaknesses.

Heard on the radio that Port had been planning for our game for three weeks. Get used to it Saints clubs are going to take us to their deep end and we need to learn how to swim against the current.

Once again I hope that this is the loss we had to have.

Go Saints

Good calls.
My small worries, having been here a year ago:
  • The system requires massive buy-in, so need to keep confidence and belief sky high.
  • The fitness gap with other teams narrows.
  • Teams start physically targeting Nas or Hill to hobble our run and ball movement.
  • King misses shots putting pressure on Higgins, who starts missing again.
  • Pou does goalkicking practice with Higgins, stops kicking drop punts.
  • Paton kicks into man on mark in season defining moment.

The bigger problem is obviously the need to play our best team on paper while we're in the hunt, which will be quite different from the team that got us into this position in the first place. Theoretically, we shouldn't get worse.

The last few weeks have shown me that we won't be winning a premiership again soon unless we develop a better midfield- Lyon has done a good job so far with the list, but it's becoming more obvious now. I would really think about getting Windy and Bytel in there for the long haul.
Difficult since other than Friday night we were going great.

Windy is certainly the future and Bytel deserves a run of games to show what he has got - just not sure how the Coaches can engineer that at the moment without injuries. The other problem Bytel faces is he is a lot like Crouch, Steele, Ross and Clark - not overly quick or a line breaker.

Wouldnt be surprised Bytel gets an opportunity elsewhere next year & for him that might be the best move.

The Collingwood and Carlton games and now the PA game showed the holes in our midfield, especially to the point of not getting hands on the ball at centre bounces far too many times, and we're getting away with it so far with two small losses, but I think opposition coaches will play to that weakness more closely.

How do we magically find someone? Not a lot of ruck-forwards on our list.

King injured
Heath right profile but presumably not ready for senior footy
Campbell not really a forward
Keeler right profile but not ready for senior footy
Caminiti suspended
Allison injured
Sharman doesn't play big and presumably can't play ruck
Hayes injured

?
Cordy - not really a forward, not a ruck..

I think people only show up if they think they’re going to win. Port beats us all the time people were probably just jumping off before they get disappointed. s**t weather too
I can only speak for my family but with us it has more to do with other commitments. Some went to the Carlton game and others went to the port game. It’s the same with my sister and her kids, work commitments, travel, playing sport etc are all factors.

I can remember back when we just bought memberships and seats and going to every game was a ritual but those days are long gone. Also having games scheduled over 3 or more days in various time slots makes it even more difficult Imo.

Hmmm can the weather really be a factor when we’re playing under the roof?

I just think we’re a historically poorly attending side. We’re not like Collingwood or Carlton who pack a stadium regardless who we are playing. It’s never really made sense to me.

I think last nights loss was not as bad as I was expecting, a 5 day break and a very young list contributing.

What I didn't like was the entries inside 50 bombing it without the tall timber to take advantage.
Our fast ball movement was stopped by Port, that allows time for them to flood their backline. Plus we just bombed it in, making it easy for them to intercept.

He probably had his worst game for 2 years which is still a high standard. He was pressured and made disposal errors which he never does. They did to us what we do to others.
Got plenty of it but was under more pressure and with fewer options, port really turned up the heat. A couple of changes to our team and I’d fancy our chances of winning if we meet them again.

You still need to get out of the house and then get on a train. I attend but sometimes it’s just hard for people

Nah that’s fair enough. I’m not saying people should just come to the footy. I respect that sometimes they can’t attend. I attended my fifth game that wasn’t a Carlton game since 2016 on the weekend. All five have resulted in losses - gws in 2016, Essendon in 2017, north in 2018, Melbourne in 2021 and this one. so now the little man jumps into my head and I start to think I’m the problem. Have tipped st Kilda twice this year for one win. Tipped against us five times for four wins and a loss.

My point is it’s ingrained in our history that we’re just not a high attendance side. We never really have been. I accept that.

I spoke to someone who works at the AFL a few years ago, he said basically the Saints don't have many supporters compared to others, but also when they survey them there seem to be more Saints supporters with better things to do than attend games. There are a very large cohort of Pies supporters (for example) who build their whole identity around it and so they'd miss anything to go to a game. Saints supporters (from what he said) see it more holistically - they'll attend if they have nothing better to do.

Port would not have won without Dixon playing.
Playing virtualy on one leg, he set two goals up by smothering a kick and then won a holding the ball decision.

Dixon was only recalled because Marshall was concussed (and Georgiades it out for the year).

I thought he was really good in marking contests as well, made at least one, maybe two for Rioli. We tend to have a problem with big lumps like him.

It wasn't loud at the ground.
Why don't you just believe the numerous people who've stated it in the thread?
Either the telecast had microphones near a pocket of the noise or they enhanced it for the narrative of outrage, but I couldn't imagine a commercial station doing that. Or could I?

If we ever make the GF please watch on tv .😀

A few times this year we’ve gone on these 3-5 goals runs I suppose was bound to happen to us at some point, happens in most games I’ve seen this year. Just need to keep at it hopefully put a score up against the Roos
