Surprised there have been many more calls to drop Brayshaw compared to McCarthy considering by far our best footy has been when we have only had 2 of Hogan, Taberner, McCarthy and our worst games have been with all three. They could just need time to gel but there's evidence to suggest that going with just 2 makes us better side, and McCarthy probably was the worst performer on the weekend, granted he may not have been fully recovered.

Eh, not really, just a different blend of talls and I'd argue the forwardline has looked dangerous every game, its been more how the midfield works that decides our games.

1st game was Lobb, Tabs and McCarthy
GWS was Hogan, Tabs and Cox

it's more our backline that has been the winning factor, but the crows have a better forwardline than the dogs definitely, & arguably than the Giants, who were without Green.
the midfield does need bolstering & Blakely is a significant upgrade on Brayshaw IMO
Really though? Feel Walker is way overrated and Betts is hot and cold. Hamling will take Himmelberg. Ryan on Murphy.

It’s more and more clear that we need Blakely looking at clearances and contested possessions. Bulldogs midfield ran ragged, just their rubbish forward line limited them.
We need experience and hardness, fast. Walters need that back up too. Conca is replaceable, Blakely does better skills too.

One change unless we have injured players - McCarthy (very unlucky) out for a Ruckman (don't care who).

3 key forwards ( Lobb, Tabs and Hogan) - 3 crumbing - I want to see this!

Blakey another couple of weeks in the WAFL - Has had serious injuries with shoulder and now hamstring which has seen him miss lot of games. Will be good to have back in the side.

Was impressed last week, but our forward entries just needs to be cleaned up a bit.

If not this week then next week Blakely in for Tucker as a direct upgrade, unless Brayshaw is injured he needs to keep playing to improve his kicking under AFL pressure.

Blakely averages more than 7 disposals, 3 extra kicks, tackles, clearances, score involvements, metres gained and only less than 3% DE between the two.

I don`t see any reason to drop a member of the winning team from last week.
Let Blakely build form and fitness with Peel for another week.
Injuries and form slumps will inevitably open a spot for him soon enough.

That's very reactionary. So we should wait until our form slumps, inevitably by a beating in the middle to bring in a first choice midfielder?

If we were being proactive, we'd recognize Blakely slots right into the 22 and tell an unlucky someone that they're playing at Peel. Good teams need to make tough decisions.

Spot on. If he’s ready and will improve the team by bringing him in, which he will, then bring him in.

Improving the team is a very good reason to change a winning team. Successful clubs do it all the time.

I prefer we take a more cautious approach with him and let him build form and fitness in the 2`s while the incumbents get another crack, that`s all.
He`s not Gablett jnr FFS

I really doubt Conca will be dropped this season. He has been brought in with the full knowledge of his limitations, and is playing the football he was always expected to play. I get the sense some posters are trying to build a little hobby horse to ride here.

I also have no doubt the club and coach want Blakely in the side. If they think this is the right time and he is up to it, he'll be in. If not, he won't. Again it feels like some posters are trying to paint a picture that Blakely is being a victim of something.

Agree.

Apart from coughing up a goal or two (my TV barely survived), Conca has been outstanding imo. He's really hard at it and invariably wins his one on one contests.

I'd prefer Blakely in for Colyer rather than Conca - we already have plenty of pace out there in Hill, Langdon and Switta.

Blakely shouldn't have long to wait to step in for an injured or managed player.

I am also fine with the club doing a bit of management of the young guys if required. Geelong are doing it, and it is one of the bonuses of depth.

We are a much better side right now because Nyhuis was given an opportunity to show he can perform at the top level. He may not be best 22, but he clearly can impact for us when he is given the chance.

At some stage this season we need to get a look at Valente, North and Bewley. We don't have a locked and loaded best 22. We are a team in development and need to benefit from a bit of flexibility at the selection table. Some judicious selection decisions can do that and keep the preferred players fresh as well.
