I think part of it is finding it hard to get motivated after playing a couple of big time matches against Collingwood and Carlton. Adelaide will be another test and Ross will be loving having a decent side to try to unpick.

We stopped having the element of surprise too, once sides realised what we were doing we were hunted instead of picking sides off. So far we've stood up to most sides and at least looked competitive. To me Melbourne, Brisbane, Geelong and Collingwood look the top 4 sides, we are in that next pool with the Crows, Port, Dogs, Sydney, Carlton, Bombers and maybe Freo and Suns just still in the hunt.

Ideally we keep getting wins against the teams around our level because that will have a huge say on the top 8 and could elevate us over some of those top 4 sides with some luck.

Our team reminds me a bit of those Scott coached North teams that were around top four but really made up the numbers, were good but there were two or three teams just so much better than them. A bit of the 2008 Saints about us as well. A big trading period will take us from 2008 potential to 2009 ready to go.

I thought Stocker was good but he had a few howler kicks that marked him down for me. He's definitely a no fuss plug and play type though. Looks like he'll be a 150 game solid player at a minimum. Been very impressed over all.
Stocker reminds me so much of a poor mans Hodge or a rich mans Geary. Has slotted in so well and plays that role to perfection. Someone mentioned Coff may be in strife when he gets back. Maybe Paton will be next out. I can't see Stocker being dropped.

So
Cal 5 Cal 5
McKay 4 Brad Hill 4
Nas 3 McKay 3
ziebell 2 Nas 2
Hill 1 Ziebell 1

or

cal 5 cal 5
McKay 4 Nas 4
Hill 3 McKay 3
Ziebell 2 Hill 2
Nas 1 Ziebell 1

I'll go the 2nd group and RTB the 2nd votes listed. He mentioned Hill in his press conference and liked his game but "lacked finishing". Clarko would mark his old premiership player higher than his current coach. He (Clarko) would have liked the job McKay did too I think.
and think our coaches would have rated Nas highly.

Did his chances no harm with his audition last night

To me a gorilla FB is not that pressing. We'd probably have to lose one of Wilkie, Battle or Dougal and you'd imagine Howard would be most likely. I'd rather offer guys like Anderson a fortune or raid some interstate sides.

By the way my boy Goober is going okay in the VFL. 21 disposals, 57 hit outs (229 in 6 games), 7 marks and 11 tackles against Geelong. Ranked 6th in the VFL for fantasy points in the VFL this year.

Yeah, North is a good comparison, good enough spread of quality talent but lack that top end player group to smash games open. We don't have a Fyfe, Bont, Trac, Dusty type to rely on when things get locked down. That player might end up being on the list already in an Owens or something but that could really stop us from hitting a premiership if we don't get one.

Stocker more hodge in style, because you just trust in his stability to get the job done. Geary was all heart and not much style, he looked like a three legged whippet chasing a rabbit when he played. Stocker seems super composed.

Really unbelievable that we plucked Wilkie from the SA backwaters and if form continues he'll be an AA this year, after finishing in the squad of 40 the year before.

One of our best mature age pick ups ever.

Don’t agree the strength aspect. He’s extreamly strong. Not just in the contest where he regularly breaks tackles and gets his hands or legs free but also in marking contests. Has genuinely sticky mits.
Just on Clark, he must have massive hands. The way he consistently holds the ball in one hand and maintains grip and control while holding off tacklers is impressive. Reminds me of Jarred Brennan.

Great analogy about Gears. He did become way more composed later. The injuries that bloke had, what a hard nut he was.

When Ross talks about some regrets about the first time around with us I always wonder if it's Geary that is one he thinks of as a kid he didn't play in 09 and 10 finals.
When you look at his stats for 09 and 10 he seemed to get dropped off the back of one low output game. You're right that Geary wasn't polished but as a young player you could see the mentality that eventually took him to being a captain.

Different circumstances obviously this time in relation to Ross turning up at a point where he has to play newish draftees compared to last time when they were largely 6 years into their careers.

I was a very big fan of young Gears...as I still was when he became skipper so I'm biased.

Robert Eddy coming in for finals in 09 and 10 like he was Clark Keating still makes me scratch my head.

Our coaches votes totals after this one

First time I remember seeing only 5 players getting votes

I'm sure it's happened plenty of time before though

He's got basketball hands. Has exceptional touch in close.

I think this is the most bizarre match review report I've seen

North Melbourne co-captain Jy Simpkin has also been fined for misconduct after removing and throwing the GPS of St Kilda young gun Mattaes Phillipou.

That moment of madness cost him $1000 with an early guilty plea, plus the 50 and a goal during the match (midway through 3rd quarter) - just so stupid!

How did Pou get the Rising Star nom when his data showed he only ran 7ks for the match
