We have got plenty of youth in our 22 and are turning them over as well so they all get a crack. Poulters time will come. We still however need to put a team on the park that can contribute to us winning games. Beat Richmond and we are well entrenched in the top eight!!!!

WHE is easily best 22. Whether he’ll be best 22 in 3-4 years time when we allegedly will be contenders is a nonsensical way to look at things. It’s completely irrelevant to selection.

I’ve fairly well understood the ins and outs so far this year with Macrae.

Bianco I don’t feel we can carry, and I don’t understand how Cox doesn’t play.
Probably based on the expected weather.

Poulter last year:
15 disposals
5 marks
2 tackles

WHE is only elite / average on disposals. The basis stats. The meters gained & i50, he is below average.

WHE - 199 meters gained this year.
Poulter - 280 meters gained last year.
You’re comparing a guy playing on a flank to a guy who was playing on a wing. By nature of the position Poulter will have more meters gained so the comparison is kind of moot.

He averaged 5 last year.

Actually, he started as the sub against Carlton.
So in 10 full games:
16.3 disposals
2.1 tackles
5.4 marks

Each of those stats are better than WHE this year ☺️
Last years form is kind of irrelevant though in regards to selection this year.

Well Poulter is putting up better numbers in the VFL, IF he’s given the opportunity to play AFL he will very likely put up better numbers than WHE.

If last years form is irrelevant, why the hell is “average / below average WHE” still in the team? 😂

Who would you compare WHE to in the league?
Why do I need to do that? He’s not standing out but he’s not performing his role poorly either. Whether or not Poulter could do better than him in a different role to what he’s playing in the VFL is up for debate, but there’s no standout reason for him to be replacing WHE right now either. Your problem seems to be that WHE isn’t kicking goals, but there’s no actual evidence to suggest that Poulter would suddenly turn in to a goal kicker if he were to replace WHE on a forward flank either, so… 🤷🏻

He’s putting up those numbers playing on a wing though. You’re comparing apples to oranges and pretending they’re both tangerines with this argument.

It isn't just about how many times the player gets the ball in his hands. Poulter has some talent but he needs to use the ball better. In the vfl there have been too many rushed hacks to the interceptors. And if you're rushed in the vfl...

You can't go "average / below average WHE" as if anyone else refers to him as such, particularly when his statistical averages are mostly above average

So I can see who we can compare him to? Toby Greene? Cam Zuhaar?

Apart from disposals and marking, he’s below average / average in everything else.

His General play, scoring & defence categories are littered with average and below stats.

67% is below average.
33-66% is average.

He’s at 60%.

Poulter isn't the answer to our wing problem. He probably won't have a long career, average footballer

I mean, he's elite at intercepts and ground-ball gets, and above average on goal assists. He's not perfect, but your weird vendetta against guys like he and Cameron confuse me.

I think there’s no point playing people who don’t make us better in the long run. We need Pendles and Howe’s leadership in the side.

I’d personally move Sidebottom to the forward pocket and WHE to the sub role. Then transition Sidebottom to the sub and WHE to VFL.

By the end of the year/ start of next year:

Poulter & Harvey Harrison in for Will Hoskin Elliot & Sidebottom.

I’m just trying to look to the future. I couldn’t care less about winning games now with senior bodies.

And that's how a club ends up as a basket-case. You need to instil winning habits while having young talent earn their games, otherwise you end up like North Melbourne. Mass exodus of senior talent, gifting unproven youth games, and now they're stuck being terrible. The way we're going about it is much wiser.

Yes the plan this week must be to concede the goal in order to bring it back to the centre 🙄
If you apply enough pressure on the ball, the zoning works with heaps of intercepts and they're really dangerous intercepts as players are in position to receive and transition. Same with turnovers at the ball. If you don't apply enough pressure, or the opposition kick it really well, you cough up a heap of uncontested inside 50 marks.

It's the Richmond model, which stands up in big games, as the pressure goes up. I think teams have got better at absorbing pressure though, so not sure if it will remain the way to go.

Based on the team selection, i think its clear we'll role our rucks back to be the extra tall and help defend the high ball.
1v1's are somewhat rare and in reality tigers only do this with Dusty (maynard / IQ / Howe) or Lynch (moore).

We'll be hoping to avoid the 1v1 and thus the specific height doesn't matter so much (now that i've said that, watch Lynch and co take 400 marks!!).

Its really a fight fire with fire team selection and its really going to come down to pressure around the ball.
Think i heard Fly say we are 1-2 for pressure.
Bianco has been added as we want more pressure and run (at the expense of a tall defender)....its a risk and it'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

This week, more than most, will be about what we do without the ball as much as what we do with it.

Rich mids are pretty weak (bar bolton who is a star), so win the clearance/contest battle and it will go a fair way for us.

Does noble have a good leap ;)
Not especially, I don't think ... oh wait!!

What’s the point of comparing him to players from other clubs when you’re trying to argue for a specific player from our club coming in for him? Are we going to replace him next week with Toby Greene or Zurhaar? Your arguments are all over the shop here.
If you’re going to argue for a player from our club replacing WHE, the logical argument is Reef imo. He played that higher half forward role in his first game and was really solid and got similar numbers to what WHE does, with the upside of having that extra development in him. It’s hard to justify bringing him in though after not playing last week, and WHE, while not having an outstanding game, not having a poor game either.

I know you have your favourites, and Poulter is one of them, but just like pushing for Cox over Cameron at this point, pushing for Poulter over WHE makes little sense, particularly given that Poulter at his current level is barely keeping up with the pace of the game at VFL level. Once the game slows down for him a bit and he’s not looking rushed every time he gets it, then we should look at ways of bringing him in.
