The great thing is our brand isn’t reliant on the individual and there appears to be real clarity of role. This is great coaching which has been our biggest improvement along with player availability.

The back seven have been sensational as JL mentioned so can’t see Walker getting dropped. Plays his role well and will keep getting better with experience. Logue might come back for Pearce/Ryan if they are sore though.

Hard to gauge on the covid guys but the extra break gives them a good chance to come back. Clearly Lobb and Acres are walk up starts and Meek will be back at Peel. Colyer and Freddy will most likely get their spots back to.

Agree with most that Henry needs to keep developing so will most likely be back at Peel. He and Switta will make way for Colyer and Freddy. Lobb will then come in for Amiss (Wouldn’t mind him getting further opportunities though if possible) and Acres will come in for Tucker potentially. Banfield on the cusp too but keeps hitting the scoreboard and having an impact so might be retained.

Good position to be in with the current depth and players capable of coming in and playing their role.

Hoping Ras gets more opportunities too as he has enormous potential. Possibly gets some more game time in the WAFL today too.

Banfield. Be honest everyone. That was a good game of footy. He should have had 4 goals. If that game, was by any other player - like if Erasmus played his game - the thread would be in melt down. We need to give credit to an outstanding game. Top 5 for mine.

Yeah, best out of the forwards for sure.

I know he played out the game - but Logue in for Ryan maybe ?
Let the ankle heal and have a like for like .
He looked proppy after the injury.

And also, what’s with Alex Pearce almost breaking his own ankle every game. He’s like a giraffe on an ice rink at times

He almost did the same thing last night when he injured his ankle to 3 years ago with no one around him kicking the ball.

Wasn’t Tabs only going to miss a couple? Is he a test for this week or out longer?

Treacy played very well. Should keep his spot.

Henry, walker and Tucker a bit shaky.

Week after week a few say Walker was poor. I don’t see it. His man isn’t kicking goals & he always has a few great rebound plays & link up passages. JL mentioned him tonight & gave him a wrap.
I guess someone will come out for Logue but damn if I know who.

They have NFI. He's doing a wonderful job. It's no coincidence that we haven't lost a game since he came in this year.

In: Acres, Logue, Lobb, Colyer Freddy

Out: Tucker, Walker (rough), Amiss, Henry, Banfield

Sturt close, maybe pushes Freddy out if he kicks a bag today
Switta will miss 1 week.

Thought Tucker was pretty average and Banfield forgot how to kick in the second half, but one of those two will stay. Banfield does seem to get to the right spots but if he is not kicking a banana from 20 out or a Jo the goose then he is likely to kick a behind.

I really like Walker but at the moment I would have Logue in front of him (just).

Reading the Gold Coast issues they are one of the worst team for i50 intercepts to opposition. Brennan Cox, Ryan and Chapman will have a field day if given some latitude with Pearce on Casboult and Logue on the athletic Chol. Jordi Clark to the Wing folding back to help them defence. Acres on the HFF but really Wing because Clark folds back to defense.

Cox Pearce Ryan
Young Logue Chapman
Clark Brayshaw Aish
Acres Lobb Walters
Schultz Treacy Freddy
Darcy Brodie Serong
NOD Colyer Mundy Banfield
Em: Tucker (sub), Walker, Sturt

Perhaps Walker can move to the bench instead of Banfield which I would prefer but I doubt that would happen. If Walker stays then Logue plays at Peel.

Henry looks to be lacking in strength and speed. He has a lot of work to do if he wants to break into the team.
Plus endurance. A couple of times he didn't have repeat efforts. Was very noticeable. Perhaps it's because the other smalls have been ridiculously relentless, but was a definite take away from last night.

At the same time, very hard to just walk in and make a statement, but that's what's required currently.

I'm a known Logue basher, but it is near impossible to not bring him in next week. He's made a massive impact when in the team. That said, I will still maintain that for team balance he is the one that is out.

Pearce, Cox, Chapman are our tall backs. I don't want Logue for Walker or anyone else as they're completely different roles.

I also dislike hearing Amiss as a 3rd tall, it takes away from our structure and speed and pressure.

It's incredibly awesome position to be in, but structure has to be the team's preference.

Henry has no contested game whatsoever. Completely at sea in any contested situation.
That’s not a terminal trait at AFL level, but it’s a BIG handicap.
It basically means he’s got to be absolutely elite at other parts of the game to maintain his position. You almost have to build a gameplan around a guy like that to fit him in. I’m not sure Jlo wants to do that. I’m not sure he’s good enough to do that.
If Henry wants to build a career as an uncontested outside type player, he needs to have the cleanest hands in the team. No fumbles whatsoever. He needs to be best disposal in the team - has to nail every kick. He’s got to be an elite decision maker and calm in possession almost to the level of Scott Pendlebury.
That’s why most players like that don’t make it long term, I’m struggling to think of many AFL players like that now. Maybe Brad Hill but he appears to be a far better runner than Liam.
I’m struggling to see how Henry fits into this side longer term, at this stage.

Henry is icing on a cake that Longmuir wants no icing on.

You're either the cake or you're not.

We have 25-30 blokes who want to be a part of the cake.

I'm sure Henry does too, but he ain't cake.

Henry has been playing Wing and training for that all pre-season and last night was a different role. He is not contested player because he is slightly built. He can develop core like Switta but it takes time. He needs to be playing at Peel and will never be an inside player. He is high half forward Wing. At Peel he needs to work harder to get to the right spots. Last night he just wasn’t in the right spots. When front and square he is stationary (I don’t just mean i50 but on the Wing and HFF as well). He needs to be on the move. His kicking in space and on the outside is very good. There were a couple of link up chains where he was in space that led to a goal. One comes to mind where speared a lace out kick to Walters who then hit up big Darcy.

People need to be a bit more patient. It is not a bad thing for him to take a step back to go forward. Again he has only played 5 WAFL league games. He has played 22 AFL games and has shown in patches what he can do but goes missing for too long. This is evident at Peel. I’d like to see him consistently getting 20 plus touches at Peel. I’m sure they track his GPS and need to see him working harder and longer (more spread).

To be calling for him to be delisted by some (not suggesting you) and a failure is off the mark. He has a lot to work on and I guess the the reason we keep seeing Banfield playing Seniors is that he is working harder getting to the right spots and has a more seasoned body. Something that Sturt and Henry don’t have yet. I think Sturt is closing in on that but just needs to build a bit more fitness and consistency.

Yeah, I’m not writing Henry off because from what I can see, it looks all mental with him but at the same time, I’m not fussed anymore if he comes on because we have an unbelievable amount of talent. Let the kid get to a stage where he is destroying WAFL, week in and out.

If he does get to the stage where he’s best 22 though, he’ll be a hell of a player

I agree with this as well. I like his bubbly enthusiasm and the fact that he really encourages team mates. BUT I’d like to see Henry go back to the basics more and less icing cream. He gets a bit too cool for school sometimes. I’m a bit old school and can move to a more middle ground but he is definitely too far on the icing cream side at the moment.

Look back through any of my posts about Henry and you'll see I've been in his corner, but he needs to be showing more by now. With the opportunity he was given this week he needed to give back more than he did. I'm actually worried he won't make it and I'm one of the most optimistic blokes...

I agree. And, I'm not the only one.
