RS v EKA
Just because it took me ages to work this out last season:

There are 2 rookie awards:
Rising Star - a predominantly stats-based awards (which will be part comprised of the Gun and Torch awards), which is the best rookie of the year. This has its own awards ceremony.
EKA - the most popular rookie of the year as voted for by the clubs. serial_thrilla won this last year, and is part of the main awards ceremony before the GF.

The EKA is the one decided entirely by club votes and is to some extent a popularity contest, which is why you hear a lot of us talking about our respective placings in the EKA but not the Rising Star. For reference, last season Tonga Bob came 2nd, GWS Goose came 3rd and I came 4th.

Hi again, welcome back to the second Torch of the Year nomination.

round 2a.gif

Well the rookie class of season 30 are beginning to settle in to their new environments, and although they are still ironing out the differences between being in a schoolyard and being in a match thread, they are getting more comfortable with the place. The alliances are also beginning to form, and strategies are being hatched. The quantity was certainly there, but was there quality as well? Let's see what bubbled to the surface.

The round one candidates backed up their debut match thread efforts and looked to go one better in order to join PMBangers as a Torch nominee. Roy boy Supersuns backed up by providing his origin story along with a bunch of gifs. Some say that gifs are the mime artists of the SFA, I say f**k that a gifture tells a million words. Lil' Fury Mister M showed his organisational skills, working tirelessly (and ultimately fruitlessly) on the Bastyy Fan Club books. His South American Minions hot take was gold though, I'm really looking forward to seeing how that plot develops. I shall also be hiding my bananas from GremioPower. Over at Dragon Island, it was VandoHawk who shaded T2B_ to get the nod. Both showed great improvement over the week, highlighted by their one-two effort in Jengaing on a rather saucy margarine-loving conversation. The comedic horse's critical thinking and questioning nature saw him through however.

Joining this trio are three new candidates. Free kick giving Gumby omgfridge stood upright over the course of their match thread with the Demons, showing disdain for his opponents, his teammates, and streetsharks. He also showed a unique ability to expend a shitton of posts to argue the virtues of doing the bare minimum. Bomber baby Kilroy stood out from the other Baghdadi rookies, showing a diverse range to his shitposting. Movie references from Kubrick to Borat interspersed with beer and hip hop, Kilroy made a real impression over the week. This was also the round where one of the pre-season favourites Muddiemoose got his campaign up and running. Like Kilroy he spanned the genres by, in the words of the great Billy Bragg, "mixing pop and politics". Covid concerns, Bachelor-loving, rival captain bashing, and attempting to solve the conundrum that's as old as time - Christian Petracca or Dustin Martin.

Superb performances from the lot of them, but the Committee had to Highlander the sh*t out of them so please join me in congratulating Kilroy as this week's nominee!

I sat down with Kilroy and his captain WaynesWorld19 to discuss the nomination. First up was the Babylonian captain:

Bob: Well done to you & the team on last round's match thread, you've maintained last season's levels as well as unearthing some great new talent! As somebody who has publicly stated how much the Rising Star concept means to them, how does it feel to have one of you recruits nominated for the Torch of the Week?

Wayne: Thanks mate, I love the SFA Community giving any form of recognition to a new poster. It lifts their profile within the community. It also is a good indication of how quickly they've adapted to this fake league, Kilroy is now spreading his wings into media threads and into the Club Room.
We carefully choose recruits, so it's great to see them enjoying all aspects of the SFA ....and one of our objectives is to assist in raising new posters profiles.

Bob: Happy to lift. Congrats on getting Kilroy to the Bombers. Where did you find them, and how are they settling in?

Wayne: Kilroy is one of those sad stories ....left on the doorstep of Abdu Prison last season, we took him in, fed him, and he's just stayed. We even got him his own little bed. It feels like he's been part of the group for seasons now, We're just hoping he doesn't fall into that den of inequity that Riviat succumbed to .... WereWolf

Bob: What has their posting style been like?

Wayne: This is indeed quite surprising, his style with us last season has changed quite a bit. There's a lot of different and interesting styles at the Bombers, so expect Kilroy to evolve into his own style, utilizing certain parts of a few posters .....but that's normal. There's a very clever & funny poster you'll be seeing a bit of, his reputation on other boards is well known, and he's considered very witty and funny, by judges I respect a lot.

Bob: Love to see how a poster grows over time! What other young’uns have you brought to the club, and are there any rookies from other teams that you wish you had gotten your hands on whose posting you enjoy?

Wayne: There's a few, MITS , rocker_oz33 , SammaGilberto , who this community will love as yet more Bombers, in the mould of our traditional approach. kickthething is easing himself into the league , and Oooh Cyril will surprise a few after he's finished shifting house shortly.

With regards to other clubs rookies, we have a very high regard for Muddiemoose .....we think he's a cracker, the Bears will probably kill him though ...being true to form.

Thanks for that Wayne! Let's now hear from the man of the moment:

Bob: Hello Kilroy. Congratulations on receiving the second Torch of the Week nomination for the season. You've settled in nicely to the SFA, making your voice heard in a team known for their output is no mean feat! What path did you take to get to the SFA, and where did you first hear about it?

Kilroy: Mate, look thanks. But it's like winning the Golden Raspberry so don't rub it in. I'd rather not be in it really but if there's prize money just send it to WaynesWorld19 for the end of season piss up.

Bob: The cheque is in the mail. What are your first impressions of the place? Are Wayne and the Bombers looking after you?

Kilroy: Tony Lynn 15 and Antonio BlueVein dropped into a local music venue owned by CALL ME SNAKE and we started chatting.

First impression was it's a yard full of roosters struttin' round trying to impress. Wayne and the boys are the best mates a fella can have. It's all bullsh*t what you hear about the Bombers. The senior players are el primo and the new boys just crack me up.

Bob: How do you prepare for a match thread?

Kilroy: No sex the night before a game. Period.

Bob: [to self] Don't make any jokes about him preparing for years. Fair call. The Bombers are known for creating playlists in the days leading up to a qooty match. Which song have you contributed this season?

Kilroy: The Clash - Rock The Casbah.

Bob: Great choice, and love the club tie-in. What would you like to achieve off field during your SFA career? Have you ventured into the world of media yet?

Kilroy: Off-field I'd like this virus bullsh*t to just feck off! This'll be it for my "media career".

Bob: Famous last words. Have there been any other teams that have stood out for you in the match threads or posters that you like the look of?

Kilroy: Likes? Nah I'm not fallin' for that old trick mate. We miss Norma Lee Ava though. She was the best.

Bob: Have you clashed with teams, or have you found a nemesis yet?

Kilroy: Clashes? Jesus and I had a few choice words.

Good one mate. Congrats again, here's your miniature novelty trophy and best of luck for the rest of the season.

That's two Torch nominees now to go with the two Gun nominees. Different posters, different teams. You love to see it! Stay tuned to see which of this season's rookie cohort will join them.

DO I LOOK LIKE ****ING BAMBI TO YOU??!?

The Nobel and majestic moose is the pinnacle of of the antlered beast family to confuse us with our cousins who came into fruition by long term family inbreeding is an absolute farce.

It would be like calling a bombers poster a wonders poster
It’s just a joke.

I'll add a little bit: the EKA is the official league award and you get a badge if you win.
