Never been concussed before but would anyone know if they were not ok after a head knock and suffering a concussion?

What I'm looking for if there is any ability on the player to rule themselves out or communicate their mental unease to the doctor?

But then again Port, like a few other teams, is run by the AFL, so any punishment by the AFL punishes itself and its AFL elected representatives who oversee the running and appointmemts wirhin the club. Is that correct?
I've gotten a concussion before during a rugby game. I had no idea I was concussed until the (independent) medic told me I probably had a concussion.

I heard it happened around halfway through but I don't remember too much about what happened during the game afterwards.

What I do remember is how it felt - it felt like I was in autopilot and couldn't process the game or what was happening - my 'autopilot' was finishing the game for me.

Tl;dr Aliir would've had 0 clue he was concussed.

Not sure taking shots at opposition supporters in this thread expressing concern is really the way to go.
Fully understand that some may have an element of trolling but on the whole I think most people are concerned about players wellbeing.
Seems that the club has handled this whole thing pretty badly and I reckon there might be a job vacancy for a club doctor pretty soon.

You would have to be incredibly naive to think the North and Crows supporters are posting out of concern for our players welfare.

No chance we lose premiership points or draft picks surely?

Was the doctors decision not the club. Can only rely on trusted advice and he failed his duty of care so has to be sacked.

can everyone who was shitting on me for starting this thread offer an apology please?

the doctor is a ****ing quack. he needs to go. you'd maybe excuse it if it was a one off mistake but this muppet has a history. i wonder how many brains he's destroyed already.

I’m normally the first to point it out when Ken is being sh*t on for things outside his control. I’m sorry but when you are on that sort of salary and acting at that level, you become culpable for your inactions as much as your actions. He saw the head clash, saw Aliir go back on, and did nothing. It’s on him.
Absolutely.

Independent doctors is obviously the answer here from a player welfare side of things, but from a football perspective does the AFL need to investigate allowing multiple medical subs per team? When you have two players go down, especially in one hit like this, the lone medical sub doesn't account for much.

Pretty piss poor to bring them back on and go with a "nothing to see here" routine by all the people that made the decision.

Fisher will be hung out to dry for this given the zeitgeist and the outrage from the mob. But put this in perspective, nothing actually happened to Aliir post the incident. It's not a Wally's Lewis/ John Platten situation where they got concussed on a regular basis. It's a one off. Speculating that Aliir will somehow have PTSD because of this is wildly dramatic and statistically improbable. If you played contact sport it's highly likely you got concussed atleast once or twice. Does that mean you now have PTSD?

Whilst Fisher has admitted he should have done the test, the leap to Aliir being damaged for life and million dollar compo claims is pure hyperbole.

Tom Browne reporting that the AFL put both players in the protocol not the club

If true, if, you’d think Fisher is about to be thrown under the bus.

The decision not to test was so obviously not allowed within the rules, it’s hard to know what went into that choice.

Whether it’s Fisher’s fault or not you’d think he is going to be the one thrown overboard

Independent, unaffiliated doctors coming soon

he should be thrown under the bus, as he should have been last year after sending jonas and butters back on after wrapping some duct tape around their heads after another massive head clash.

completely avoidable incident, if we'd sacked him then and got anyone other than the angel of death, they would have put both players in concussion protocol immediately.

If Fisher goes, surely the coach that said he saw no problem and was happy to send Aliir back on needs to be sanctioned as well.

he was very, very comfortable with the doc's decision.

i wonder if that's similar to jim hird's "very very good place" he was going to be in after "all the evidence comes out"

If both players passed their concussion tests on the night, which the dr indicated they did, I'm not sure the league has any right to interfere.

If this whole thing ends up with Hinkley being sacked..... silver linings?

WE OFFER THESE TWO BRAINS AS SACRIFICE ON THE ALTAR, YOUR HIGHNESS, PLEASE BANISH THIS * SPITS * FATHER OF DONUTS TO THE OUTER REALMS

The issue is that Aliir wasn’t given the test directly after the incident, when it is clear he should have.
If both players were concussion test and cleared on the night and Aliir was sent back on, but then a couple days later showed delayed concussion symptoms, the club would not get investigated.
However the fact that Aliir didn’t have the initial test is what’s getting investigated.

They get an initial assessment and then if it's determined that they might have had concussion they do the full concussion test in the rooms

That happened with Jones, but Aliir was cleared on his initial assessment despite a sickening headclash where he lay motionless on the ground for several seconds.

The AFL absolutely has to interfere if it doesn't want to be sued so badly they have to shut the league down

No.

I said Aliir should have been tested. I just argued that it's possible to pass the test after a knock, ie, Jones.
