Instead, we concede a goal and then lose the next centre clearance and give away a dumb free kick to only be up by 18.

He's in his 12th season. A flag is the minimum and he should be laser focused on that goal.

Jump around acting like an idiot the second the final siren blows on grand final day and we're ahead. I'll be 100% on board with it. You don't over-celebrate small steps towards your goal, you celebrate once you've achieved it.

Start seeing us go slowly around the boundary line and Hinkleyballing it into Dixon, unless the team we are playing is absolute garbage its game over. And Hinkley has no answer to it. He has no clue how to turn it around mid-game.

One of the jobs of the new coach would be to work out how to play when the clamps are on.

Even if we could play to an even score with contested, hard clamped down ball, it would significantly improve us.

We've had plenty of stirring wins during the Hinkley era. We know what they amount to. How many "best win of Hinkley's career" type headlines have we had now? How many wins that were a sign that we'd finally turned a corner?

The second half was s**t but a lot here overrate the likelyhood of us losing.

The game goes another second Rioli puts us two goals up, so the five more minutes doesn't fly.

Geelong had 2.5 qtrs to catch us and couldn't despite our brainfarts in the third qtr.

We should still sack Hinkley, but there's a bit of bedwetting about that result.

The trend of the game was definitely us sliding and losing the game.

As I've said before, I reckon it was the tactical sub and then Scott clamping down that changed the game.
The sub came on at the 10:47 mark of the 2nd Quarter.

The scores up until then were:

and then after that tactical sub

Port Adelaide 4.7.33
Geelong 10.7.77

We kicked 3 goals in the second half of the game.
It was kinda similar to the second half of the Cows game.

A Farrell bomb off a Dixon mark at the 50.
Rioli magic off the stoppage.
Huge contested mark and goal from Georgiades.

These are more individual brilliance than system goals.

We really need to find a way to kick goals playing contested ball.
If we do, I think we are looking the goods.

None of this matters. It's not a secret that we have a very talented side that (when expectation is low) can bob up and surprise a team. The key variable is our mentality, which is entirely too variable.

You spent all of last year talking about how it was different, how we finally had a list led by winners, how our mentality had changed, how we were playing as a top 4 side, that we'd finally built the mental resilience we hadn't had previously. Then we had one of the most pathetic finals series in living memory and went out in straight sets without a whimper.

You can't honestly believe we've turned a corner just a week after such an insipid performance against a 2-5 Adelaide side in the Showdown.

You know to win a flag, you have to show up 3-4 games in a row?

But it means absolutely nothing if we don't win the flag. That's the only objective. Everything else is a stepping stone to that goal. The sides we should be most focused on imo are Sydney and Collingwood. To win the flag, we have to beat one of those sides at the MCG.
