I do not buy this for a second. Utter nonsense. I would accept that some of the older players like him, but the younger players think he's a weirdo. I would also guess there's a group of players he never even talks to.

I don't either. An exemplar is Zerk-Thatcher accrediting Hinkley for main reason he came to Port. A 20 yo from Adelaide that barracked for Port saying that a 60 yo of which he's shared some interview minutes with, that has no success as a coach, is his reason for being at Port? Club propaganda.

Sack Hinkley 11 - 10 11 things I hate about you

i hate you GIF
This is the one.

I'm so sick of people outside the club talking up Ken's phenomenal win/loss record. Fact is, we invariably lose the games that matter - campaigners like Chris Fagan are only defending him because they know we'll never win anything under him.

In fairness I think this is the bit Hinkley does well, he sells the dream to the kids, and that is why they come, but at the
end of the day that is the problem, it is a dream, not a reality.

And because Fagan is an equally weird uncle type coach. They are coaching twin flames in many respects.

Yeah, he’s obviously good at smooth talking potential recruits, for all his other, many, shortcomings

I mean, he’s also clearly managed to con the whole club admin for years, it shouldn’t be surprising that he can charm certain types

The other thing is that after actually listening to some of his post-match tonight he is still saying we need to "close the gap" to the best teams.

That's his limit. It's who he is at his absolute core. His biggest aim in life is to look at the best out there and try to get close to them. He knows if he works really hard he might get closer to the standards they are setting.

Compare this to Sam Mitchell talking about how he wants to develop a style that leaves every other club following and trying to emulate the Hawks.

Winners see themselves as winners. Losers see themselves as losers. It will never, ever change.
This. Every year we have to here a stupid tidbit from Hinkley on "Yeah we looked at the reigning premier and are trying to emulate a few of their traits"

Every fricking year. You don't just copy to become successful.
