Seeing we haven't replaced Voss or Schofield, one of two things are happening.

1. The club is in financial difficulty and can't even afford more assistants.

2. They haven't replaced Voss & Schofield because they will need the extra cash to pay Clarkson and leaving room for him to pick a right hand man.

I seriously hope its the latter.
Or they know Ken’s going, have no idea yet who the next coach will be, but want him to choose his own assistants.

I feel like it's a win-win.

For us to make finals from here we will have to have genuinely learnt lessons changed and improved in which case we are a chance to go somewhere in finals heading in with Bulldogs 2016 like form (and you never want to waste a chance as they don't come around that often).

If we dont make finals or make finals and flop I feel the most confident I have in ages that Ken will be gone.

The biggest risk of course is if we make finals and actually win one or two without ever genuinely threatening.
Even if we do limp into the finals ( which I believe is highly unlikely) I would love to be as sure of winning X-Lotto as I am we would be knocked out in the first round, and probably by plenty.

If he was there to critically analyse Ken it would be.

He's there to learn for his role with the AFL women's coaches.

Cahill passing on lessons from Ken to the women's coaches isn't a good thing.
Can't say this worries me. For obvious reasons, Darren Cahill isn't somebody who's going to be short of a good coaching mentor.

Firstly, there's a lot more to observe in a coaches box than just the implementation of Hinkley's game plan.
Secondly, seeing the processes & procedures in action would be more valuable than any strategic plays.
... and finally, you don't think he can do both things at once?

Hinkley would have absolutely hated as well. Hated it.

Anecdotally and second hand, but people within the 4 walls with hands on player interaction roles feel that Hinkley will not be at Port next year, the players have stopped listening to him and the GWS thing definitely has legs.

Or Ken asked for a minimised team to maximise his post Covid salary and reduce the amount that he gets challenged.

Even worse maybe Ken has asked for an extension and a $250,000 p/a increase because of his brilliant mind, or he may have told the club, more cash + an extension or I will go and coach Camperdown.

Will they actually get rid of that Dodo guy.
Why would they before Port changes it's trading team? Ryder, Fantasia. Dodo's eyes light up when Port enters the room.

Meh. A quick look at the fixture will put your mind at ease. Most of the teams in the fight for the lower reaches of the 8 (Collingwood, Bulldogs, SUNS) have piss easy draws whilst we have a nightmare draw.

You'll need to go 13-9 with a good percentage to make finals this year. Just losing to Melbourne, Freo and Geelong will get us to 9 losses, let alone difficult tasks against Richmond (x2), Sydney, SUNS and Collingwood.

We're screwed and he's gone.
I agree we're screwed, but I have zero faith in our hierarchy to do the right thing by the club. I don't even know if they actually believe that the ongoing mediocrity they're enabling is the best thing for the club or if they really don't care and are just following the path of least resistance and looking after themselves. They're exactly the kind of no-hopers that Fos Williams wrote about.

Here's an eye opener.

When Ken Hinkley was appointed, Robbie Gray had played 70 games.

He's basically wasted Robbie's entire career.
Despite the fact that Robbie has singlehandedly kept Ken in a job (see St Kilda 2017, Adelaide 2018, Carlton 2020, St Kilda 2022, etc. I'm sure there's planty more).
Man...

I can see it now.....

Simona Halep: "Darren, have you got any new tips for me? I'm struggling with rallies."

Darren Cahill: "Just hit the ball hardery for longery."

They have kept Darren away from the box for 3 years. Eventually he was going in to have a look.

Concur.

Killer Cahill was recruited on to the board of directors to be Koch’s and Cardone’s and thus the Board’s conduit into the coaching panel.

Why has it taken him so long to get in Hinkley’s face? Owen Five perhaps.

That it it happened immediately pre-bye 2022 may have some significance. Hope it does.

You've given me an embarassing amount of hope.
At this point I'll cling to anything.

When I replied to it earlier today it was in the General AFL Talk thread.

My "Sack Hinkley" reply was also moved to this thread but I have since deleted it.

The team is going no where. That is abundantly clear to all, even management. I think the board have just breathed a sigh of relief that at 5 and 6 they still have that "mathematical" chance and the drop off in crowds, interest and increase in supporter and media heat has been pushed out for another month or so. By July when we are 6 and 9 the drums will really start beating. 2 thirds into the season, with all hope lost will be a far more palatable and justifiable time to openly discuss replacing Hinkley in the boards thinking.
