Discussion Saints part ways with recruiting manager after restructure

I’m sure Roughead “resigned” the same way Gallagher “resigned”, Rath “resigned”, the fitness guy, they all “resigned”.

Not sure how I feel about this TBH. His time at the Dogs was exceptional but apart from the academy kids I don’t think the drafting has been great. Even this year they took an effing ruckman before our first pick which is always a big red flag for mine. He’s a proven guy though and that’s all I’ve been asking for.

If we're getting in Dalrymple for his ability to pick out quality later in the draft, you have to wonder where we see some of our recent acquisitions such as Van Es, Hotton and Keeler. Might need to temper expectations on those guys.
Not really. All were pretty obvious selections that late in the draft.

Rowbottom at 25 , Warner at 39 , and McInerney at pick 44 , amongst getting guns with higher picks , and premiership players from other avenues. Very Impressive. I Feel a bit for Toce , but there would be more than one wise head behind this decision. We’re building nicely.
Dalrymple is clearly rated very highly.

Warner is the only really top line one. Rowbottom and McInerney are good but not outstanding pick ups.His work at the dogs was excellent.

Not sure there is much left that came in under Richo or Ratts.

Batchelor and Carrol as development coaches.

Darren O’shaunnesy received a promotion this off season.

I think that’s it.

Club cleaned house with the medical/physio + Strength and conditioning department in the last 12 months.

And Roughead was announced today that he was leaving.

Fair enough Roughead is leaving, but everything he's learned in an off field role , he learned at StKilda.

As an outsider i've been impressed with the way that Batchelor has at least attempted to emulate the AFL side at VFL level.
In the past we had a total disconnect between the way the VFL and AFL teams played.

The Ratts sacking came after a reality check from the review and doubtless some input from Geoff Walsh.
They'd started making good appointments after Lethers arrived and though he's also not been perfect it did raise the bar and got things moving.
We are now very clearly a well run club and footy dpt where good players and staff will want to stay and the guff gets squeezed out.
I'd like Bassett's tenure extended for another term if possible.

Lethers is shit. Bassat looks like the instigator. Lethlean would have ****ed the club empowering himself and Rath. Dodged a bullet and won by getting him out of the footy department. Losing Finnis was a good move too.

With Toce gone I’d expect Dalrymple to bring in his own off-sider. I wouldn’t be surprised if Roughead also departs the club. Sooner rather than later.

It appears the debacle of Ratten’s reappointment has triggered the President to fully rebuild the football department, on and off the field. That’s my take. Bassat has had enough and is driving this.

The remnants of the football department from the 2021 season are probably on borrowed time.

The President has gone all-in on Ross Lyon and this is what has made Lyon such a commanding figure since his return to the club. The chips are in the pot.

There will be no excuses from here on. For anyone. This club is exhibiting a ruthlessness not seen since the end of 1960 when a new President sacked a popular and respected coach. He then brought in a new Secretary and a new coach. And it was also decided that it was time to find a new home down the Highway and leave 90 years of history behind.

As Damien Barrett would say, at the end of 2021 the club walked through a sliding door. There is no turning back now.

I feel good about it. Hopeful. At long last.

When he went to the Swans it was meant to be working along side Kinnear Beatson as part of a dream team. I'm not sure if Sydney had anyone particularly impressive under him. I thought maybe Dalrymple wants out of the shadow of Beatson.

Lyon might not be the best coach going around but he knows how to structure a club in a pro-standard way. Bassat is doing very god work so far. We are wanting for nothing any more.

Still have to get them right. I rate Toce. Hope Dalrymple hasn't lost his mojo or arsed his time at the Dogs.

Lethers wanted to make rath and gags joint heads of footy

Finnis wanted everyone to be there for 10 years

The real change seems to be bassat like ya said. Sounds like they burned him and since then he's been more hands on because he got fed bullshit by not being as involved

But I think the real instigator here is probably Lyon. He's been very vocal about the soft cap and salary cap. I think he gets that it's all about maximising your spend. We have had alot of bodies on the payroll. I think he's just making sure we spend our money wisely.

Dalrymple apparently needed to work back in Melbourne.

Not sure why.

But a few clubs were keen and we won the race.

Sydney were willing to accomodate him aswell to a certain extent

Lyon is the best coach for our club by a country mile

Not any other coach in the league I would rather

He's the absolute best fit for us. We were not an easy task with a restructure of the footy department while trying to guide a young side and simultaneously lighting a fire under a side that looked catatonic.

The more intelligent and handsome among us said this from day 1 😎
Yes we did
Little wins for the 4 foot brigade 🥳

What was the split with Dalrymple and Beatson? If he still has a lot of say, then the biggest benefit is probably the gap that we had in the 2004 onward era - lack of decent picks and a struggle to nail picks.

Hope Beatson comes across aswell. Him ripping into the media at the draft last year was unbelievable 😂
