Feels like a real push along the lines of Ross’ comment on a special flag. Sure, clubs try their guts out all the time, but this looks hell bent on the special flag.
Its galaxies apart right now.

Bassat is involved in everything and wants regular updates personally on all things at the football club.

I was told yesterday that the night before the draft he actually caught up with the recruitment team and Ross and wanted to understand what the plan was etc.

Previous presidents just waited for board meetings for a more general update and were more concerned with managing club debt and AFL pressure.

Love the wording of the tweet, like he wasn't lined up prior to letting Toce go.

Apparently the new bloke is good, the ones quoted he has picked up aren't better than the ones Toce identified recently.
Let's see how this bloke goes without all the Sydney legups.
One thing is sure, the Saints are putting together a very impressive off field team.

This bloke must be good because Toce seems to have gone well, however none of us know the workings of a recruitment manager, we only see the results. We don't know the relationship of Toce with other staff, or if the role for Dalrymple is different or if this is Lyon getting his team together.

One thing we do know is that with a good stable and professional coaching, recruiting and admin, you get a chance at a flag, without it you have none.

Most confident I have been in our clubs structure, well, ever. We have had good lists in the past but dodgey facilities and admin.
Admin now looks sound, facilities are fantastic and the list is getting there. We have things to be hopeful about maybe not next season but 2025 onwards.

We want to get this list to a position where we compete for 8 plus years.

Sounds like where i work.
Monthly Reports, pain in the arse, but they can't claim ignorance.

The Sydney leg up argument is abit silly isn’t it?

Chad Warner is his pick and he is arguably better than anyone on that list bar Gulden.

Dalrymple is renown for his talent in identifying picks across the board not just needing early ones) and absolutely nailing late picks.

We are about to hit more compromised drafts.

Really professionally run now.

After the mess of 2022 and the Ratten situation the president really stepped up and to his credit he said he would.

Irrespective of the opinion of Lyon. He is what we needed.

Players should enjoy the enviroment, but also know when they come to work (and it is a job) that they need to work and get the best out of themselves or they will work elsewhere.

The fact we are here. Feeling positive about our future is because of Bassat and then Lyon.

Make no mistake, we have a predator on our doorstep looking to squash us as an entity and it isn’t lost on the club that it’s time to get its shit together. Hawthorn will lose Tasmania and think our bayside/peninsula region is theirs to move in on.

It’s a bigger role than what he was doing.

Irrespective, we have one of - if not the best in the business now.

Yes. Just as with RTB, one can argue whether or not RTB is the AFL's best coach or not but he was a clear upgrade on the coach we had, and he was the best available coach.

Ditto with Dalrymple. Upgrade on what we had, and best available upgrade. And may or may not be the best recruiter in the AFL.

If we keep upgrading to "best available" in every appointment we make then our ability to succeed is also improved.

Great post. Not just the aggressive territorial Hawks that wants us gone either.
Plenty in the media love to sink the boot into Saints at any opportunity attempting to undermine our building positive culture & membership base.

No knowledge but I’m sure RTB has his fingerprints all over this - his support team is pretty much set now and pretty much all new since he arrived:

  • All assistant coaches except Lenny
  • Misson football manager
  • SOS and now Dalrymple
  • Head of Fitness.

I’m sure there are probably others. I’m a big RTB fan but also no excuses - we need to continue to improve (but I accept the improvement path isn’t linear especially as we develop our young guns) but let’s see where we are in 3 years time - hopefully a top 4 contender.

With Toce gone I’d expect Dalrymple to bring in his own off-sider. I wouldn’t be surprised if Roughead also departs the club. Sooner rather than later.

It appears the debacle of Ratten’s reappointment has triggered the President to fully rebuild the football department, on and off the field. That’s my take. Bassat has had enough and is driving this.

The remnants of the football department from the 2021 season are probably on borrowed time.

The President has gone all-in on Ross Lyon and this is what has made Lyon such a commanding figure since his return to the club. The chips are in the pot.

There will be no excuses from here on. For anyone. This club is exhibiting a ruthlessness not seen since the end of 1960 when a new President sacked a popular and respected coach. He then brought in a new Secretary and a new coach. And it was also decided that it was time to find a new home down the Highway and leave 90 years of history behind.

As Damien Barrett would say, at the end of 2021 the club walked through a sliding door. There is no turning back now.

I feel good about it. Hopeful. At long last.

The Ratts sacking came after a reality check from the review and doubtless some input from Geoff Walsh.
They'd started making good appointments after Lethers arrived and though he's also not been perfect it did raise the bar and got things moving.
We are now very clearly a well run club and footy dpt where good players and staff will want to stay and the guff gets squeezed out.
I'd like Bassett's tenure extended for another term if possible.
Based on the AGM, Bassett has been extended

Not sure there is much left that came in under Richo or Ratts.

Batchelor and Carrol as development coaches.

Darren O’shaunnesy received a promotion this off season.

I think that’s it.

Club cleaned house with the medical/physio + Strength and conditioning department in the last 12 months.

And Roughead was announced today that he was leaving.

Agree re Hawthorn. They will be on our doorstep.

Roughhead will probably go back to hawthorn

I didn’t know about Roughead. There you go. Was it his decision to leave or the club’s?

It would seem then that the clean-out is complete. Dalrymple is the last domino to fall. Everyone who we want to keep from 2021 has either been promoted or re-contracted.

We need to absolutely crush them then. We have an exciting young team and significantly better colours.

If we're getting in Dalrymple for his ability to pick out quality later in the draft, you have to wonder where we see some of our recent acquisitions such as Van Es, Hotton and Keeler. Might need to temper expectations on those guys.
I have high hopes for Keeler if he has the application his footy ability and athleticism look great on highlights.
