Saints - under the radar but right in the mix

As much as I dislike the saints I honestly don't know why they were written off, they have too many quality players even without Riewoldt not to be a threat still, they went through a real flat patch there but look as though they have overcome it

We wont beat Cats in two weeks. Right now form wise Cats are on top of their game and we are not. We are getting their and I suspect late season we will start to see some of the consistent 09 form....with Roo back.

I do know this - IF we make the GF it wont matter who we play we will not lose.;)

Not going as well as last year, so not sure they should be feared, however, they are good enough to win it if others fall over.

yeah true. We looked great , won 19 straight, 20 out of 22, beat Collingwood, and the Bulldogs, and still came away with SFA.

This year we could concievably win 16 games and do better than 2009.

I think that presently Geelong, who we play next, are in much better form. Our disposal by foot is pretty poor, and what i have seen of the Cats, they still look superb.

As it currently stands, Geelong are still the favourite by a country mile, but we are not in September yet.

Collingwood had the flag wrapped up in May remember.

What you mean like the Saints did in 2009?

(Am i allowed to say something negative about the Saints on this board?)

No. In 2009 there were two teams undefeated, Geelong and St.Kilda. Nobody said the Saints were flag favourites that May.

Go and read the suckhole Herald Sun from May this year. Collingwood had the depth, were kicking mammoth scores, and according to Sheahan were unstoppable.

Always the case with the downhill skiing Collingwood. Always a million dollars through the year, and then fold in September.

But Sheahan, every year like clockwork, will tell us Collingwood is "the real deal"

Just this year he went off prematurely.

In terms of aligning the stars and falling in line with omens, I would prefer us to lose to Geelong next week and finish second rather than first. Brings two omens that went against us last year into our favour, which are:

- GF result being the opposite of the last time they played
- St Kilda losing the GF every time they finish 1st on the ladder

Have always been a big challenger in my eyes. Flying under the radar beautifully and will get better from here. Playing some very good football and I expect them to go very deep into September.

Still think the Bulldogs will have a fair bit to say about the flag this year also.

The saints are getting back to their ugly best. Ugly I mean in that constricting defensive style they play with. Looks horrible to watch, but effective. Should be a good game in a few weeks ...the irresistable force (Geelong) meets the immovable object (the saints)

Perhaps our boys do restrict the opposition, however at the same time, we had over 20 shots on goal today. Inaccuracy seems to be a issue at the moment, but I am pleased our attacking game is trending in the right direction in recent weeks.

Jesus Christ, Lord God Aljimmy. How can you say you'd prefer to lose to Geelong based on an Omen, you have to be extracting the yellow stuff, surely?

If you beat the Cats next week you might finish first on the ladder..........but if you lose to them, you might not make the top two on the ladder, you may not make the top four. You guys need to get wins on the board just like everyone else in the top five or six teams at the moment.

Take the wins while you can, and hope that everything goes right for the rest of the year in terms of injury and form.

And how do you know that?

Interesting people are complaining about our boring style of play - apart from that one time Gilbert held the ball over his head, that was one of the msot attacking games by us this year. We really did go all out and had we kicked straighter...ugh.

Seriosuly, what is up with our accuracy lately? Early season we were sinking them from everywhere - since the last few weeks we've been kicking terrible scores lately. Should've finished with a hundred yesterday and last week and probably a few weeks before that against West Cioast.

not a good time to come up against Geelong, I still don't think we're ready and will most likely get flogged by them. Ogh and I don't give a **** about omens. i just want to win the flag. We win next week, we topp the ladder - whatever happens haoppens and anyone saying if we do that we won't win the flag is kidding themselves. Omens are bullshit.

If we're good enough we'll win the flag. At the moemnt, we're just about there but not. Geelong is the length of the Princes Highway ahead of us at the moment.

Collingwood is yet to play Richmond, West Coast, Adelaide, Port Adelaide or Sydney.......

On degree of difficulty Collingwood's 9-3 (assuming we beat Melbourne) is miles ahead of StKilda's achievements so for this year.

StKilda are definitely still in the mix but there is no denying they have slipped back a few pegs.
I think they might be finding new ways of slipping 'forward' again without Riewoldt.

Riewoldts injury may have been a short term setback, but a longer term benefit to them.

The way it's looking at the moment, you'd have to look at things from the perspective of who is best placed to beat Geelong. At the moment, I'd have to say St Kilda has the edge over Collingwood if they can get Riewoldt back.

The issue of who has done better against other top 4 or top 8 sides is a side issue in my view.

But in saying that, I guess we will learn a bit more next week when Geelong plays the Saints.
