Coach Richmond under Adem Yze

Yea i mean you have Ben Rutten the worst coach in sporting history on staff, it is no surprise.
Knights was worse than Rutten, people have short memories.

As for Yze, he is reminding me of Primus at Port so far.
Primus couldn't survive two terrible rebuild years, so it'll be interesting to see if Richmond stick with Yze if they are terrible again next year.

Richmond wanted Carr but after he pulled out of the race, there wasn't much coaching talent available unless they wanted to poach Hinkley.
I think Hardwick screwed Richmond to an extent by staying on for 2023 because had he quit after 2022, it would have allowed Richmond to have a chance at getting Adam Kingsley.

Nah, that’s a wowser view.

He’s had to build a new team and plan with a massively crippled list this year. Judging him on 2024 is just unrealistic.

Yeah they can use this year to keep bedding down the game style and seeing who he can unearth from the list.

They will probably still cop some beltings, but with the personnel they have out and inexperience out there that’s probably inevitable.

I think they will win at least another 3-4 games. (Unless even more injuries strike)

Still hasn't had a chance to show what he can do. Last time we had most of our players available we beat the Swans. Since then it's been probably 7-9 of our best 22 missing every week including most or all of the starting midfield.
I keep hearing this but it's wrong.

There were many significant absences in the Sydney game too, which is what made the result/performance so wild.

Martin, Lynch (mid-game), Prestia, Grimes, Gibcus, Broad, Trezise and Graham.

They have 2 games against their Hawthorn bunnies along with games against St Kilda, North and Gold Coast in Melb.

A few opportunities to get some more wins as players come back

Judging him on 2024 is unrealistic.

The problem is this list needs to be cleaned out and it's very hard to see how 2025 and 2026 are much better as the older players drop off and they rely on kids to take up the slack.

And by 2026 if they're sitting bottom 4 the fact they had injuries 2 years before won't save him. It's why rebuild coaches don't survive.

The list doesn't need to be cleaned out. Many of our older players are and have been shadows of their best for the past 2 seasons. Graham, Pickett, Grimes, MacIntosh have been given games when they are no longer best 22. And I am being kind to a few others.

Without injuries, we would not have seen players like Campbell and Ralphsmith given the run they have. MacAuliffe, Lefau, Miller, Rioli Jnr, Brown, Dow and a few others have all gotten better or been given a run where previously they wouldn't have. When our senior players start returning, then if won't be the good young ones that will make way, but those older players who are past their best.

The advantage of injuries is, we have seen how the young players have gone, and they will only get better with an injection of good senior players.

Besides Martin, who may or may not play on, our good older players still have a bit of footy left in them, the oldest Lynch and Prestia are only 31.

Based on what I saw on Saturday. it's just a terrible pity that Lefau has gone down.

Whilst it is true that age has wearied them, what can't be denied is that the players seem to enjoy working with each other. I place quite a bit of stock in that idea that a playing group needs to have a sense of shared purpose and closeness. I see it in the Hawthorn squad, too, and even West Coast. I definitely don't see it at Adelaide.

Although I agree with FootySmarts that rebuild coaches don't often survive, sometimes they do if that sense of togetherness is there. After all, Bomber survived at Geelong, Clarkson at Hawthorn, Hardwick at Richmond. All three endured periods of speculation about their tenure, especially Bomber and Hardwick.

Lynch went off halfway through the last quarter. Broad played. Graham is fringe when Ross, Taranto, Hopper and Baker play. Trezise isn't best 23.

So no, it's not wrong at all.

Pickett also injured (don't rate him anyway but the coaches consider him best 22 atm so it matters) and Lefau one of the bright spots of the season so far now gone with an ACL for the year.

It keeps getting more challenging for Yze but despite that the team has been more competitive in recent weeks, so I think overall the signs are more positive but he doesn't have a list atm to do much more.

Providing we can get the right players on the park in 2025 (need to overhaul and replace our medical staff) we should definetely see improvement and the silver lining to this season is we'll have given a lot of players experience, some will make it and some will just be improved depth players when we need to call on them. It'll also significantly strengthen our VFL team when they go back to that level, as we'll be able to inject probably another 8-10 AFL listed players to that side, which should also help their development at the lower level.

I said 'most of our players'. We had 19 of our best 23 playing.......that is most, is it not?

We'd kill to have 19 best 23 available now, we haven't had that many since that game....as I said.
It was substantial. When players are missing and then players 24-26 are missing it's a significant hit.

Martin, Prestia, Grimes, Gibcus, Trezise and Graham is a fair chunk of players to be missing. As much was said heading into that game.

But whatever I'm happy if you need to say it was practically full strength. It wasn't, but we can pretend.

For the 2nd time....I said most of our best players played. for the 2nd time Trezise is not best 23. For the 2nd time Graham is fringe when Ross, Taranto, Hopper, Bolton etc all play.

4 guys.....as I said. 19 of 23 is 'most'.

Okay it was full strength. You win! That was the one game everyone was available, while every other week there has been significant injury lists. For the second time: you win!

WTF is wrong with you Dude? Do you just argue for the sake of arguing? Every Richmond thread is polluted with you arguing with Tigs posters for the sake of arguing.

Depends what players leave as well. If Baker, Rioli, Graham, Martin all go then next year won't be that easy. It would probably mean the injuries this year helped us, as we shouldn't get worse if all the injured players come back in. We will have also hit the draft hard for the first time in a long time so atleast there will be new talented players to watch.
