Well i think i am going for Mumford in R1 with Cox R2. Seems like he is being overlooked a fair bit and i really love his 2nd efforts after a hitout with applying tackles etc, i think he can maintain the average he showed after he came back from the suspension where he averaged 103. Would love to have gone Jolly to get the extra cash, but i have my doubts and i really want to lock and load the rucks this after last years mess where i burnt a few trades in the R2 area.

Lke MightyMark i have my doubts on Ryder as well. For me, Sandilands and Cox are the 2 stand outs, you'd be mad not to have at least one of them in your team. Mumford showed great potential last season and is definitely our number 1 ruck, i think there could be an element in risk in taking him for some, but i think it's a very good one. Should avg between 95-105 IMO

Anyone jumping off Jolly after his game last night? or just putting it down to pre season rust..

I wouldn't look to much into it, there were alot of top players that had off games over the weekend. It's the NAB cup, and to be honest I dont think Collingwood was putting in there best to beat West Coast

Hope you have cover round 5 when they both have the multi bye together!

Hmmm, with so much chopping and changing in my team i lost track of who has the byes at what time. :D

Still though, i'd be happy to take the risk. Depends on how confident i am on how much Mumford will outscore Jolly. :p

But i don't think it's all that bad to be honest, people are going to be having to bench the likes Sandi etc at some point. But like you say, all depends on whether or not R3 and R4 are going to be playing (Z.Smith and Bailey atm)

I hardly ever see NMFC. :)

you crack me up with that wit of yours......I see melbourne will have loads of media attention this year........all for the right reasons:rolleyes: I mean youve tanked in the seasons gone-by, got some decent players onto your list, youve shafted some decent players who have served your club with distinction and honour in your COUGH COUGH ¤glory years¤ only to make way for those new players......I cant wait to experience deja vu ..... reading Scully taking the cash and bunking up in Western Sydney next year......and the fact you'll shaft Bailey if Malthouse holds his strong desire to coach on.
Yes you pot my club due to the fact it has low membership ....but be honest here to yourself at least, your somewhat underachieving side whom Im willing to bet as well that you've never witnessed any sought of glory in your pitiful existence and I hope your smug backside never does, and if you didnt actually hold the NAME melbourne football club would have gone belly up years ago. Ooops I forgot you have that strong bond to the jewish community in Melbourne........who I know first hand look after their own

A better reason for going the premium ruck route is because for any upgrading trade, i.e. not injury or form-based, you need two cash cows, one to downgrade and one to upgrade. The one to upgrade needs to be in the position that you're bringing the premium in to.

Now, as an exercise for the reader, can you name any good ruck cash cows over the last three years that made $150-200k for this to be worthwhile? Now compare that limited list, if any, to the list of midfielders, defenders and forwards that fall into this list.

That's why I go for two premium rucks. Theoretically a midpriced ruck that rises $100k could work, but again you're making less money than picking a premium to start with and downgrading someone else to a real cash cow.

I play a couple of sc/dt teams each year. Being outside oz I need as much afl as I can but even with 4+ teams each year I have never focused on my rucks.....I put it down to Malthouse's attitude on the position. I make atleast 3 GF's each year but usually only get the one win if that.

But this year I am trying to lock them in as best I can (inc. bench) due to the 2 trades needed as you mentioned. Then it is a matter of one cash cow traded for a ruck rookie later on and upgrade elsewhere.

Sandi + Mummy (petrie + smith)

But I may change mummy for cox after preseason.

Am i crazy for having two GC ruckman on the bench? I am toying with putting Petrie in my forward line and putting Tippett in the ruck for MPP options. I'm not really expecting him to play, but i wouldn't be expecting Derickx to play either. My other ruck being Z.Smith.

I've done the Sandi/Cox Tippett/Smith with Petrie in the forward line. Once returned, Petrie will be a lock in my forward line and will give great cover when both ruckmen bye or get injured.

Petrie should also get some dosh for a late season upgrade.

Only concern is if rucks fall as well as forwards, but should be right

Are you concerned about him missing 2/3 of the opening games? He could be traded in at the beginning of Round 5 without loosing any money and might be a good downgrade for one of the risky forwards that people tend to have been taking i.e Sylvia, Yarran, Krakour, Knights, Higgins, Stevie J if one of them don't work out.

At the moment I'm doing a two GC bench, similar to the all Sydney ruck combo that people tried a couple of years ago (and worked quite well) of Jolly and two of Currie, White and Pyke. I've got Fraser and Smith, figuring that when Fraser gets injured Smith will take over the #1 ruck spot.

And what happens when the GC has the byes?
