Missed this one when it came out. And since then we've had last week's khaki announcement.

Jo Dyer absolutely caustic on this disgusting, disgusting government's disgraceful abandonment of Afghan interpreters, among other gross moral failings. Read every single word and never forget.

"The only time this Government comes up with a plan is when they need to hide the fact their previous lack of plan, action, effort, courage or all of the above has got us into yet another godawful mess."

What makes them even more culpable is that not expecting to win the last election they should have been aware where the budget time bombs that they'd set were. At least part of the omnif*** can be traced back to self sabotage.

Turnbull would have been good during this pandemic. His problem was that there was a cancer in his government in the form of Morrison, Dutton etc.

2 of the last 3 PMs have been empathy deficient.

Turnbull government response would probably have fallen short in terms of social and economic intervention, but we would not have the kick a vic bullshit Nor the vilification of Anastasia.

Messaging would have been consistent, the federation Would not feel fractured and operating as 8 seperate countries and vaccines would have been distributed freely, sooner and relatively evenly.

the COVID pandemics have been a once in a century transformative opportunity that has largely landed with a bunch of grifters, psychopaths and their sycophants and hanger ons.

Turnbull would have had serious shortcomings in a pandemic response, but we’d be ina better position as a nation And we’d be having a serious conversaTimon about who we are, and who wewant to be…

Can't fault a word of that.

But in fact Whitlam, Fraser, Hawke, Keating, Howard, Rudd, Gillard, Turnbull, even phukcing Tony Abbott - YES, EVEN PHUKCING TONY ABBOTT - would have been far better leaders in this crisis.

They just run around putting out fires they themselves have started

It says much of the last eight years that Lib supporters hang their hats on gay marriage as one of the biggest achievements, a policy that a good section of their base and a significant section of their party room actively opposes.

He is the first malignant narcissist to hold high office in Australia.

Is there anything this government touches that doesn’t turn to shit. The apparently terrible deal that needs to be ripped up was signed by them and the new deal had sparked a major diplomatic incident with a key ally that will probably cost us billions when it comes to negotiating the EU trade agreement. Just inept.

Astute observation but it doesn’t matter.
This is about 2 things:

1 posturing and presenting Morrison as a strong leader for a possible khaki election.

2. pretending The geo political environment is the same as 1978.

So, if we knew from the outset that France couldn’t get the job done, why did we go with them?

Still our fault..
thought we made it complicated for the french by telling them to make the nuclear design that they had diesel.

Clearly, but don’t see it working. Labor’s attack lines should be 99.9 per cent on their vaccine and quarantine ****-ups causing millions of Australians to be locked down and costing us billions. Ignore any attempts to pivot to a khaki election and always bring it back to that. If they want to make one comment on the subs deal, it should be agreement in principle ‘but man, didn’t they manage to **** that up too’.

As with everything Scott, you scratch a millimetre below the surface of the announcement you'll find we're spending enormous amounts of money for very little in return. It feels like a matter of time before he and Frydo are convinced by the brother of a senior Nigerian minister that the national debt could be better serviced by investing through him.

Is Angus Taylor the Nigerian?

Yeah, but he maybe got us submarines in 20 years so that's a win right?

That the Federal Government believes it is able to a turn the $2.8 billion blown (so far) on buying the wrong subs into a new 'plan' that might yet see it win government in spite of everything else that it has fecked up over the past 2+ years says all you need to know about the failure of our media to hold them and its leader to account.

As does the PM being able to leave Australia this week for talks with the US on that 'plan' while one of his most senior Ministers remains in Cabinet despite accepting a $1m undisclosed 'hidden' donation for private and personal matters. (Edit - whoops I forgot that the PM has asked his former Chief of Staff to investigate the matter, so that's all OK then).

It doesn't even need scratching to reveal its illogicality.

Here is a PM who says in 2021 that his government's decision to abandon the 2016 decision to build conventionally powered, French designed submarines was made because of 'game changing' shifts in both the available technology and the global threats faced by Australia.

So this 'game changing' decision to rip up an already commenced $90 billion contract and shift to something as yet undefined in scope, cost and timeframe but certainly much more expensive and not available until at least 2040 (and more likely 2050) was made because of changes in technology and global politics over a 5 year period?

How many 'game changing' shifts in technology and global politics will we see in the 20-30 years until these boats hit the water?

Maybe the real strategy is never to build new submarines at all? Just announce that you are 'planning' to do so every 5 years. Would save us a heck of a lot of money!
Unfortunately the plans cost 3 billion dollars+ at a time

Yep a stunt. The French sub build was going to be a disaster, billions of dollars over budget and years behind schedule. Its Morrision's way of cancelling the contract. A diplomatic disaster but to the average voter ..... "how good are nuclear subs!".
****ing just like the NBN lol

yup. Tend to agree.

get it out of the cycle as quick as possible but try to add the to the miasma of incompetentence.

This Porter matter is another disgrace. Beggars belief how many Morrison is allowed to get away with. Hope he doesn’t make it back from the USA.

Scotty probably confused macron who speaks excellent conversational english but isnt so good with idiotmatic english when he said he wanted nukular
