I don’t get why this has happened. Border openings were known well in advance and the fed government were pressing big time for its occurrence. Christmas and New year gatherings were known in advance also, given they occur every year.

I don’t get why the federal government didn’t take action to ensure equitable access to rapid tests. It’s not like there is a shortage of overseas examples before us?

How is telling profit driven business they will be the sole providers of universally needed tests a good strategy? It’s not as though the Feds were obliged to do the logistics of distribution anyway. Once procured, the tests would have been dumped on the states, ala vaccines, and any issues could be blamed on the states in the usual manner.

Scotty and team have literally created the issue of hoarding, price gouging etc. with no strategy about how the poorest Australians are supposed to source necessary tests alongside feeding themselves and their families. This is happening with the US, UK etc who are distributing tests universally for free.

Good luck calling an election amongst this mess

The same reason someone like Marshall proposes a new basketball stadium in the middle of a global pandemic whilst ambulances are ramping - donors.

my politics doesnt easily align with tony windsor, but i understand hes well respected ..... and regarded as a straight shooter

he rates gillard ...... thats a fair endorsement i reckon

[edit] you only have to look at the way shes conducted herself post politics .... a class act and massive loss to australian politics

Both would have done a fair bit better than Scumo I’d say.
Gillard, yes, but Turnbull showed he didn't have the backbone to push back against his opponents within his own party. Rudd proved he was intelligent and good in a crisis during the GFC, he would have done well. Abbott would have been more inclined to do the hard work but could he put his ideology aside in order to introduce things like JobKeeper?

Gillard and Turnbull suffered from being in teams that didn't deserve them.

Gillard is so underrated in the history of Australian politics.
  • First female PM in a hugely misoginistic country and parliament
  • Minority government
  • Hostile press - actually beyond hostile
  • Hostile and hugely misoginistic opposition
  • Actually got a shit load of legislation passed
Conservative will never ever admit it but Gillard was one of the best governments Australia ever had.

Gillard got more done in a few short years than Howard ever got done.

Rudd burnt way too many bridges within his own party. In any field you can't treat people the way he did and expect a functioning work group

I think once you get to a pandemic The LNP wouldn’t & couldn’t oppose whatever turnball wanted to do. It would be ammunition for the ALP for a decade to come. Abbott I think would have used JK just like Scumo imo but he wouldn’t have wanted to let go control to the states so much. They’ve basically ran the country for two years. There’s no way he’d let that happen. Rudd had the runs on the board getting us through the GFC like you say so he’d be the perfect person who could have steered us through this all without the mess that Scumo has created.

think of the money lost since the scrapping of gillards ets ..... think of the level of investment in renewables and carbon neutral tech that money could have funded .... think of the income potential that investment could of created in terms of goods and knowledge

abbott is a f$%king disgrace .... as is every piece of $hit that enabled his destructive path to power

and to think ....... the preacher man is worse ........ f$%k me drunk

Turnbull was such a disappointment.

Everyone should watch Strong Female Lead on SBS for a refresher on what she was up against.

The ABC audience is many times greater than Sky. Like, multiples.

Nice, true but not the point as people choose to vilify Murdoch/Sky whilst praising the public broadcaster.
We all know the editorial leaning of both & that is what is at play here.

It will do in current conditions.

Sadly after the last election Labor won't give any ammunition to the Libs who don't have any policy anyway.

I disagree.

A Labor Opposition worth their skin would be saying "These tests are vital to the national health and the national economy, and it shouldn't even be debated as to whether or not they're free - any debate is an insult to our values as Australians, and if Morrison has the instinct to price average Aussies out of these tests, what's next?"

Yes they lost the 2019 election by playing big-target, but they nearly won the 2016 election on Medicare.

Health is an election winner for Labor. Fudging leadership on it is inexcusable.

Not really.
Yes I just watched his little talk, gee he is a very average speaker. He waits for Morrison to do or not do something and then criticises. He has to come up with something himself. If Labor lose the unlosable again, surely they must change the way they pick the leaders. Albo is just a poor copy of Shorten. I'll wait for the stream of abuse.
