What about the Construction industry mate, I mean C,mon!
Transport is there with the primary producers.

Construction, well depends what type. Obviously infrastructure, roads, damns, communication, etc is very important.

Housing would be there with the service industries.

Commercial construction would be driven by need.

They're the same people that will put asterisks against any premiership.

We, who as a club proudly bask in glory of the 1916 premiership - and some question the legitimacy of premierships. Getting a bit precious, or what?

wooden spoon AND flag

the 1916 Fitzroy team only won 2 home and away matches and finished last in a competition reduced by the effects of World War I to four teams. All four teams qualified for the finals, and Fitzroy won their next three games to win one of the strangest VFL premierships.

You make a good point. How's this for an idea - we build a lot of structurally unsound apartment towers to house corona victims in. Kind of like what China did with the temporary hospitals, except instead of tearing them down at the end we auction them off to foreign investors. It's a win win! The property market will never stop rolling!

If we are going have an extended list, and a mini draft, I wonder if we’ll give a chance to our U19 academy kids.

Particularly Bruce Reville and Tom Wischnat. They’re the two I’ve seen the most of at training.

Who else from the local NEAFL teams might be under consideration.

That’d be low on my priority.

The building industry and greedy property developers in particular have been systematically raping our suburbs in recent years by knocking down beautiful grand homes in our best suburbs and throwing up these small ‘luxury’ style apartments that all look the same in streets that can’t accommodate all the extra residents while councillors on the take approve the pillaging of our beautiful suburbs to line the pockets of the developers while not giving a stuff about what they’re doing.

I’d like to think this recession will hit them hard where it hurts most because they are only in it for themselves against the objections of those around them so I’ll join many that have no sympathy for them whatsoever.

Not sure what you mean by it adds nothing to the risk of 25 million...that’s the point of all this, everyone is meant to limit everything they are doing. The concern isn’t about the players getting sick, it’s who they can potentially give it to.

Our coach and CEO are in a high risk group for starters. There’s also all our assistant coaches and support staff that are part of game day no matter what.
For every player, they are still likely to see friends, wife and kids or parents through the season.
Their partner or friends are likely to be interacting with their own family and friends.

It’s not just 800 people, it’s a fair bit more.

They are both less than 60 and are still considered low risk. >80 high risk.
The club doctors can ensure the club and all staff are well aware of the risks involved and limit exposure.
The players and staff would be at much higher risk if they were left to fend for themselves in normal society without the supports they currently have.
Mike Sheehan tonight (73 yo higher risk than anyone who would attend games) admitted he caught a tram among many unknown people and did not even sanitise hands afterwards. Where is the uproar about him?
Our club will go bankrupt if no games are played. The AFL probably will too. Nobody is suggesting the AFL should be allowed to get away with things others cannot. In fact the opposite is true currently. If Pendlebury was not an AFL player he would not even have been tested. What if he were positive and a normal member of society? He would be unaware of the fact and just go around infecting people ... the fact he was tested at all shows the AFL are being held to a much tighter standard than almost all others in the country. As a result they will go bankrupt.

EDIT:
It makes sense for healthcare workers to be tested when they are symptomatic even if they have not been overseas recently or been in contact with a known positive person. This is because they are in the frontline and are at greater risk of exposure. Also if they do become infected they are at huge risk of passing on infection to others, particularly those at risk. A mate of mine is a radiographer (the guy that does the CT scans) and got flu symptoms last Wednesday, probably about the same time Pendlebury did. My mate was not tested for CV but the AFL player was. Where is the logic in that?

ScoMo has said limitation on public gatherings will be in place for 6 months.

Looks like there won't be crowds for quite a while. If there's games at all.

Baker & Smout from Canberra both averaged over 30 a game last year. Matt hammelman again possibly?

Maybe getting in early

Below from news.com

"Most of the world’s airlines will be bankrupt by the end of May 2020 due to the ongoing effects of coronavirus", a Sydney-based aviation consultant has warned.

CAPA Centre for Aviation made the dramatic prediction as countries lock down their borders in light of the spread of COVID-19 which has caused more than 170,000 infections and 6,500 deaths around the world.

I don’t think we’ll have that problem in Australia.

Hope not. But they will need Government support and lots of it i imagine

Government has waived Air Services Australia fees and Fuel excise. QLD state government has waived payroll taxes. This all helps. If I had to bet on one of them going under it wouldn’t be the one most people would choose.

I'm not what you would call a Gil McLachlan fanboy but I'm impressed with how he and the AFL in general have handled this so far, they are seeking the view of experts and acting on their advice and not being overrun by media "experts" opinions, just because other major sports have abandoned their seasons for now does not mean we have to follow.

Some sort of normalcy must continue, we can't all go and hide in a corner in the fetal position for 6 months, footy will be a great release for a large portion of the populace. From listening to Greg Swann re the measures taken by the Lions, (I assume all clubs would be following similar protocols) the players are at less risk of contracting the virus and hence passing it on as the vast majority of the general public is.

I disagree sadly.

Greg Baum wrote a really good piece in the Age outlining that just about every sport in the world, including those in Australia that don’t even attract many fans to their games and they’ve suspended / cancelled seasons.

Similarly, I think the AFL is a lot like Australia’s Government in that bit I’d sticking its in the head sand as if the virus isn’t even happening and is being misguided by protecting the economy over the health of the public.

I get that people are excited about the footy starting, who isn’t, but it smacks of desperation by Gil and his lapdogs at a time when it needs to be put on hold.

A lot of those sports also waited until the situation was worse than it currently is in Australia to suspend it's season or was forced to by the government. A lot also depended on international travel

Unless Gil McLachlan is outright lying they have sought the advice of multiple experts and they have advised that starting the season is fine.

Just maybe the other competitions have reacted to outside uninformed pressure from non experts and the AFL has taken a measured mature informed approach.
