Will the AFL charter flights for the teams playing away so they don't have to fly with the general populace?

Time to raid the future fund, the future is now Gil.

Gerard's opinion line up with mine - wait until early June and try and run the season 17 weeks straight through and finish the season in October. Also made the point that NFL has a wildcard round in the finals to guard against inequality, for example some teams will have 9 home games and some will have 8, so could see a similar thing making sense in Aus.

They're not happy about the pay cut, must be hard for them....

Yeah one of them made a point about that. Riewoldt nailed it though - suck it up. Need to make sacrifices so that the battlers can hold a job too.

We'll get 8 home games, Suns will get 9 (including the Q Clash)
If in fact they go to 17 games don't expect it to be the first 17 games listed on each members teams fridge magnet.
I expect each team to play each other once.

So a complete revamp of season with the exception of the first 4 games.
They will be played probably at the venue named, but at different dates and times

I did put forward a 17 game season but starting in October.
No matter what happens they need to play games to survive.
The AFL needs to at least get some Media revenue which was $397 million in 2019.
Even if Gil was able to negotiate a % ratio to games played that may in fact keep the game of AFL alive for 2021.

They could start the season as late as June and still get all 17 games + finals in with a Grand Final in late October.

No byes and if needed mid week games, I'm starting to feel positive that we will see footy this year............. and a Lions flag and I don't give a stuff if it has an asterisk against it.

You have to feel for our players,

So many of them in interviews over the weeks leading into the pre-season were talking about how good it was to be playing opposition and not doing match simulations and now are faced with another two months of training.

Why an asterisk ? This is as even as it gets.

This is literally the second thing Gil covered.

Each team plays every other team once.

The first 4 rounds stand as is the in the fixture, which will give them enough time to work out the rest of the fixtures.

Plenty of people will put an asterisk against it.

1- Some teams will play 9 home and 8 away games and vice versa.
2- It will also have a bearing on who you play away and home.

I wouldn't mind betting that big Melbourne clubs like the Tigers and Magpies will get 14-16 games at the MCG, some will nominally be "away" games though.

No fixture is uncompromised unless every team plays each other twice home and away.

I’ve had a crack at our 17 game fixture, playing everyone once based purely on the 2020 fixture with the make up of the first four rounds fixed:

1 Hawthorn - away 1 - Vic
2 North Melb - home 1 - Qld
3 Adelaide - away 2 - SA
4 Collingwood - home 2 - Qld
5 Western Bdgs - away 3 - Vic
6 Sydney Swans - home 3 - Qld
7 Richmond - home 4 - Qld
8 Port Adelaide - away 4 - SA
9 Fremantle - away 5 - WA
10 Melbourne - home 5 - Qld
11 Geelong - home 6 - QLD
12 Carlton - away 6 - Vic
13 St Kilda - home 7 - Qld
14 GWS - away 7 - NSW
15 West Coast - home 8 - Qld
16 Gold Coast - away 8 - Qld
17 Essendon - home 9 - Qld

I think this will be pretty close to our fixture with 8 games at home, 1 on the Gold Coast, 3 in Melbourne, 2 in Adelaide and 1 in Perth.

Given the first four games are locked in, we won’t be playing North in Tasmania. The only change to the above could be our game in Geelong being played down here instead of in Brisbane.

Personally I believe it’s madness to even try to start the season.

On February 25th Italy had 323 cases of coronavirus.

That’s 3 weeks ago, tomorrow.

Today they have 24,747 cases, and 1,809 dead.

Tomorrow morning I’ll wake up, and Italy will probably have somewhere between 28,000 and 30,000 cases, and 2,200 dead.

When did they shut down? A week ago today.

We’re going to look back in a few weeks and think to ourselves (and probably out loud), what the heck were we thinking.

Like myself, plenty of my sensible family, friends and colleagues have already isolated ourselves because we all agree that we’re being led by morons that are seriously breaching their duty of care to our nation.

Yes, we’re all professionals that are privileged that we’re able to work from home relatively easy made easier that we don’t have children yet (perhaps in 9 months we will). To be even safer, we’re now basing ourselves at our place in Portsea for the next 4 weeks or so. Of course, not everyone is able based on their professions and personal circumstances but we should be self isolating/ distancing ourselves of our own accord.

Our only serious challenge is toilet paper which we just don’t have enough of.

There is no reason to think that Australia is going to be any different to the UK or any of the European countries. We're just a little bit behind them.

Suppose we lose out Thursday and Friday night games now. :'(

Bunch of whispers around today that we'll likely see a very similar draw for 2021 as what was planned for this year.

I think even though we'll still have a competition this year (all going well), there will be a desire to more or less write this whole period off and get back to what was planned for 2020 when we're clear of this virus and 2021 comes around.

As an aside, I reckon the clubs with the biggest reasons to be upset by all of this are Richmond, Collingwood, and Geelong. They're all clubs with very key players towards the end of their prime years.

Joel Selwood will be 33 next year. Dangerfield 31. Hawkins 33. Blicavs 30. Duncan 30. Ablett retired.

As for Richmond, Riewoldt will be 33. Cotchin 31. Edwards 33. Dusty 30. Grimes 30. Houli 33.

Collingwood are a little better. They just have Pendles - he'll be 33. Sidebottom 30. Howe 31. Beams 31 (if he doesn't end up retiring).

Not that this is to say they won't still be brilliant sides next year or are unlikely to be premiership contenders, just that it really hurts to essentially lose a whole year when your list is at that point of maturity and contention.

Our only concerns will likely be Zorks (32 next year) and Stef (35 - but not until November 2021).

Our age profile is still a few years behind that group, and time isn't running out for our list at all.

How many wins is likely to secure a finals spot in a 17 round season... 9-10? 12+ top 4? I would be expecting the minor premiers/2nd place to only lose 2-3 games in the H&A.

A good start to the season is imperitive.
You would imagine 10 might get you there?

Generally the AFL doesn’t charter flights, but I understand this is being seriously considered at the moment.
