For those of you that had some hope that we had a chance still, tonight should have quashed that faint hope.

Once you come to that realisation it does have some benefits, it takes the stress out of it and you can think about what’s best for the club.

We could easily lose our next 4 games, which includes Freo and Hawks away, whilst we are still depleted. Then we play West Coast and Richmond away. We still have though games against Melbourne, GWS, North, Geelong and some others.

Some of you might not like it, but for us it means missing the 8 and finishing as low as we can.

Our main competitors have all benefited from low picks, our only one is Gibbs and he’s a ring in. This strategy has failed us for 20 years. And yes we made last year’s GF, but we lost and Martin killed us.

This is a super draft, we have to bring in quality talent and that must include a low pick below Port to have any hope to get a slider.

If Sloane does go, that’s 2 low picks.

Without elite talent we will continue to fall short.

This also means smart decisions need to be made.

Jacobs needs to be rested and we have to see what ROB can do with some games, quite frankly it can’t be worse than what Jacobs is offering.

Mackay? Piss off and Milera plays off half back.

Galluci plays, even if he stinks he plays.

Tex comes back, Fog stays, Jenkins pisses off.

Anyone who won’t be here next year doesn’t play, that includes Lynch if he’s going.

We won’t do it, but that’s what we should do.

Either way, we are going to fail, accept it and relax.

Yep. Let the tank begin.
Sloane is leaving. Wont open negotiations with the club. Normally if a player is stalling for more money, once something like an injury happens, or some poor form hits, they sign up real quick. Totally going home from my point of view.
Problem is that we wont get anything more than a compo pick for him. What club is going to pay up a top 10 pick, or even pick 10 and 16 for a 29 year old?..wait.., other than us?

Season is over now.
Just tank FFS and get games into the kids.
If anyone needs surgery get em and get it done now.
Get the players in the best shape we can to be right for preseason.
A bit of tanking and the early picks we have and load up with quality in the draft.
Just wrap the ****ers in cotton wool and piss off the fitness staff we have, PRONTO!

Do you have knowledge that he hasn’t opened up negotiations?

If we finish 10th, we get pick 8, so the compo would be pick 9 which is more than we will get from another club.

What should we do? Play O'Brien, Dear, Gallucci, Poholke and Wilson and look at what picks we can put together to get elite talent for a mini-rebuild.

What will we do? Grind to an away Elimination Final.
We will grind but finish 9th

Pyke has a multi year contract and should get shrewd while his job isn't on the line...the OP is 100% spot on and anyone with any ruthlessness in aiming for a flag should totally endorse this direction.

Only problem is once the big name spuds are removed we will likely play better so it could backfire!

Looking at the fixture, we could finish 12th.

We are 9th with GWS sand Hawthorn breathing down our neck. Obviously lost to GWS. Hawks game in a couple weeks will be telling.

Lose to Hawks, tank away.

Mini rebuild. Get rid of the fat that’s dragging us down. Players and staff.

Trade out Lynch and Sloane if they aren’t committed. Commitment also means taking a pay that fits the club strategy and squad profile. Of course St Kilda will pay you more. They have to. So will Gold Coast.

Restock with Rankine, Hateley, Munn if we’re lucky.

Treat this as Hawthorn 2009. Geelong 2006. Richmond 2016.

Clubs aren’t defined by 1 season.

This post is SO spot on it’s hard to add anything.
Crows don’t believe in the “re-build” ....but if there was ever a time....it is NOW.
2 first round picks....Carlton’s second rounder a “end of first” pick
More picks for Sloan.
Time to tank and set ourselves up for years to come.

If we finish 12th we let Sloane go

Caro on 5aa was interesting. Says clubs are cooling on Sloane due to his age. Silly boy may have done himself a disservice.
North should have a crack, they would be crazy not to, he’s a free hit. Apparently they are also after Lynch too. They get both and we would be very strong next year.

Let's just find out some answers about players once and for all.

Dear, O'Brien, himmelberg, Hampton, etc.

If we've atleast tried and it didn't work, then we're working on facts and I'm sure those players cut would appreciate that we actually made an informed decision based on performance.

If we're lucky, we could actually find a player.

Change up the structure and look at alternate strategies, again if we're lucky we might find something that would be worth persisting, excepr we've learnt this in a real game scenario.

Get all the assistants to swap roles and give them freedom and a few games to try their ideas. Perhaps even give aspiring assistants a shot.

The amount of things we could learn would be invaluable.

This is a massive opportunity for the future, but I see people realistically hanging on to the now.

This administration would rather see us scrape into a meaningless 9th than learn all those important things about our side and coaches.

Isn’t the free agency compo pick directly after the first round ends (ie pick 19) & not directly after our first round pick?

If we come 12th and say we’ll simply accept a compo for Sloane which will be one after our first pick meaning other clubs won’t have to give up picks for him... half a dozen vicco clubs will be beating down his managers door..

We shouldn't tank. You cant deliberately tank and turn that culture around. But I think we we should look at who in our squad has some trade value and who is non-essential in 2-3 years time. Sloane is gone. We need to trade Lynch too. Is it too late to trade JJ to Brisbane for example.

How far is too far? Do we even look at trading one of our best players to have a crack at Lukosious. Would Matt Crouch or Daniel Talia get us Lukosious?

I know it sounds ridiculous. But is there really any point going through a rebuild half arsed? Its pretty clear that this group isnt going to win it, so should we just give as much as we can to the next group.

This year is 100% gone. Tex won't be back to full fitness. Crouch done. Sloane done (I suspect).

Pack it up now, blood some youngsters instead of hacks past their prime (Jacobs, Mackay...)

Basically, tank, tank and more tank. Could not be a better time in our entire history to do it with so many SA youngsters likely to feature high in the draft.

Whilst tanking start an actual search for qualified fitness staff. Not staff that we already employ that we can promote, I mean actual properly qualified and experienced staff.

Get our best players ready for next year, draft well, sign McGovern and we will be a big chance of going all the way in 2019-20. We have an immediate window open over next 3 years if we get it right. If we nail the draft, we then will be back looking at the top in 5 years time. Just need a little bit of boom and bust first.
