Selecting a ruckman at pick 8

Re: Selecting a ruckmen at pick 8

Sorry to get back to discussion, but we've got 2 outstanding ruckman (Hille and Ryder) and 1 strong up n comer (Belltower), so why another ruckman?

Especially seeing as the new interchange rule means having more than 1 ruckman in the side is risky

I'm still happy if the club thinks Gorringe is a good thing. Hille will be gone in a few seasons, leaving Paddy and T-Bell. Whilst HFF comments have made me warm a little towards T-Bell, I still think you have to question if we'd be better with him or Gorringe in the side.

With the new ruck rule coming in, how much value would T-Bell/Gorringe add in other positions - if Paddy is the dominant of the 2 rucks?

According to Norwood's development manager Gorringe looks like an onballer in cone to cone drills; could he play as a tall wingman? T-Bell appears to me only to be able to double as a power forward, and surely we should have enough of those? T-Bell might have to overtake Paddy for the number one ruck role?

Re: Selecting a ruckmen at pick 8

Gorringe, Hille and Ryder can all play key forward, so rotating them through there almost rules that theory redundent.

Hille will be gone soon.

T-Bell, while promising, is no sure thing.

Ryder is still one of our most inconsistent players.
These are the things I reckon most people aren't taking into consideration. The main one being that Gorringe is able to push up and be a dangerous forward who can kick goals. Even if T-Bell does come on, I can't see him being anything more than a tap ruckman. Don't think he'll be anywhere near as useful a forward as Gorringe has the potential to be.

A Ryder/Gorringe combo could be anything. I'm seriously warming to it.

I'll play devils advocate here :D

Key Stats - 2010 NAB AFL U18s
- Daniel Gorringe
Games 5
Goals 4
Avg Kicks 3.4
Avg Marks 1.4
Avg Handballs 7

Just puts the highlights reel into a bit of perspective. (although he is still impressive and the hit-out king)

compared to T-Bells 2010 effort...

Games 5
Goals 1
Avg Kicks 4.2
Avg Marks 4.6
Avg Handballs 4.8

(and before anyone says anything I know that stats aren't everything)

Covering all bases hehe. Those stats pretty much prove me right anyway (as right as I can be from such a small sample group lol) :D

whenever anybody questions the club, the list, our future or the way we do business.

this should be the answer. everyone should just reply this

It's a shame GWS don't have pick 7 instead on GC.... Then then could have Gorringe in Orange...

Why do you want Caddy? Or are you saying that so we dont have the chance to take Gorringe. The latest article seems to think we wont take Gorringe and Atley is almost a sure thing now.

He will go at 7

I was making a bad joke. GWS new strip is orange... they could use him (Gorringe) as a marketing ploy.

I would like Atley or Caddy with pick 8. Definitely need a player that can win his own ball out of the centre.

Some of the late mail has either us or Richmond taking 6 in the top 10? Thoughts on Conca so early? From limited footage, I like his ball-winning ability and disposal. Bit surprised he's bolted into top 10 calculations but I trust Keane after the last 2 years.

Rate Conca- and it is not us that is taking him. Richmond will take him BUT ONLY if West Coast take Polec whom the Tigers want. We will be taking Atley.

One of the links in BF's draft section have Essendon interested in him, but there's strong word from Jay Clark that the Tigers are keen.

With elite footskills, unlike the bloke you are carrying on about. Heppell rarely misses a target.

How elite are his footskills though. Hes always taking easier options than Jacobs. Jacobs tends to try and hit targets 50 meteres away where as Heppell usually finds short 20m passes more often which a much easier.

Jacobs went at 69% in the carnival with 147 posses
Heppell went at 75% in the carnival with 98 posses

Not a greal deal of difference and the ability to kick at 70 % with every 150 posses gained is quite an achievement especially considering he likes to hit targets over 50 metres. The thing with his game he needs to improve is his ability to hit up the 20/30m target rather than trying to kick long all the time. This isnt hard to learn and more of a mindset issue, by doing this his kicking efficiency would likely improve even more.

Heppell also only kicked at 60% during his TAC cup season this year.

I rate Heppell but i also think Jacobs should be rated just about as high. I have no problem with taking these players so high. Your just all for pure mids and taking them high.
