20/20 hindsight but what were peoples thoughts on the decision to send Harris forward late, he would have come in handy down back in the last few frantic minutes.

Also does anyone know what Fages was furious about on the bench with around 5-10 minutes to go? Flashed up on the screen at the ground, he was waving his arms around and swearing, very angry. I thought it could have been either an umpiring decision or more likely we weren't playing the way he wanted us to.

I have not been that seething after the game since the semi loss to GWS. It was a disgrace.

How's the luck to lose Payne again, (altho I thought McCarthy was a little reckless) and then Berry tackling another player. Plus a few horrible bounces and some great ones for them (Bailey Smith toe poke between 2 Brisbane defenders sitting for him perfectly instead of running away for a behing anyone?) Made all the difference in the end.

Probably the first game where I can rattle off at least 7-8 instances of terrible umpiring decisions from memory. Most resulting in scores to them aswell. It is a wonder how they get such a rub constantly. Also hate the look of their handballing technique and that Weightman bloke is really trying to get a name for himself as the biggest rat of the finals.

But we really lost the ascendancy of the ruck contest after the first quarter, English did a good job of nullifying McInerny and then that stopped our clean possession out of the middle. After that we barely looked like scoring. I think the commentators said we kicked 4 of our 6 first half goals in a 5 minute period. Which shows to me we weren't really ontop for most of the game.

I'm not sure how we rectify that midfield group, getting some bigger guys in around there will help and the bulldogs are a pretty tall midfield unit. Does the Lyons and Neale combo work? Are they too similar to be in there together? The amount of forward spread from the dogs at center bounces was clear we couldn't go with them. We have a few bigger bodies we can move in there next year like Starcevich, Berry, Rayner, Cockatoo, lots to give us a different look but none are really what I would call fast. Will have to see how we can shuffle the decks for 2022.

Final word is a massive shout out to Coleman. Was very damaging off half back and bit do we need another option. He opened up Rich and Birchall to be more free and got a lot of the pill himself. A lock for 2022 there all season.

the frustrating thing is that if you put the microscope on all the contentious decisions and put it to the AFL or whoever - they would be able to justify it with a vague interpretation clause in the rule. You can actually argue there were no mistakes made.

but when those 50/50 calls start piling up against you for a sustained period - that’s when it’s hard as a supporter (or a neutral) to watch it happen to a team.

compound that with it being a tight final and against a team who has an obvious free kick differential on the year.
My biggest angst against the umpires is the frees we didn't get but the Doggies often did....HTB, incorrect disposal, length of time of a tackle and we even got done for a throw lol which was there but.............

Didnt see the replay but the Fox report said the police had to hold one bloke back while the Umpires were walking off.
I’d buy him a beer.

Home games normally mean you bully the umpires into winning the free kick count, not against the dogs. re watched the last qtr there were 2 Major howlers. Dan Rich touched mark, couldn't see where it could have been touched, and Dan Rich again tackling Bailey Dale, holding the ball. Zorko had a absolute mare in Q4 as well

Zorko in finals does not appear to have a great record. Bit of a concern going forward. I think as captain he tries to do too much, I noticed a couple of times he tried to bust a tackle and got done HTB when he could have passed it off.

I think it was a good move. Adams had Naughton covered and there were no other forward down there that we needed Harris to cover.
In hindsight it should have been done sooner. 68 inside 50s with Harris in there could have produced something.
We were struggling to get a mark inside 50 all game. Daniher couldnt mark anything, McCarthy dropped a few, McInherney dropped a few.
Harris took two good grabs as soon as he got moved forward. Unfortunately they werent close to goal

We've been saying that for 3 years. Not working
We still have a very young group, 2019 was a learning experience, 2020 was an opportunity with a soft fixture and because of that opportunity weren't really challenged or motivated to grow and progress to that next level, and this was the only year we've really been legitimately challenged. We had a top 4 fixture, we had injuries to key players, we had to play around Australia for 3-4 consecutive week periods, we came less than a goal from a prelim when everything was going against us and despite those challenges we still finished top 4. It's not a linear process.

It must have been edited but straight after the game on the Fox Sports report it said something like "there were a number of soft free kicks paid and none of these umpires should be involved in the preliminary finals next week".

The Demons fell off the tree a couple years ago after losing the Prelim but look at them now. I definitely dont think we will fall but I expect us to come back stronger mentally and more polished and be close to untouchable with a full squad.

It was when Fullerton was left in nowhere land and way out of position. Consequently the Bulldogs rebounded because of it. There were plenty of those similar moments in the game that contributed to the loss....not just the umpiring decisions.

Thoughts on Daniher ? Massive fail again
He's not a genuine key forward which is where it hurt having both Hipwood and McStay out as both of them have made huge improvements in being a proper key forward. I feel once they're all back together it's a great mix of workman-like, x-factor and skill.
