Arrogant by the club to announce that before the game tbh

Either gonna look good or very very bad post game...

Kind of has shades of Langdon accidentally riling the pies up a few weeks ago...
Think the only reason they put it up was because there were a lot of whispers from Journalists about it. Probably got sick of all the questions.

But yeah I agree, should've been done after the game.

You cant really keep something like this secret, it gets out.

is we lose then I can definitely hear someone like Sidebottom saying in the post game

"They had talk of staying in Melbourne, felt like they already pencilled themselves in for the win, we weren't gonna let that happen"

Just don't like idea
Are you talking about this press release or is there something else, because this is extremely harmless?

Wouldn’t read too much into it
It’s called being organised
Just the decision to stay after the weekend saves the players 30 odd hours of travel and transit

Makes sense to me when they could spend that resting , with family , rehabbing….. whatever.

Any business plans ahead , unfortunately this business has way too many media parasites clinging to it for scraps

4 games of footy last weekend. Only 2 this weekend. I wouldn’t read anything into the umpires from our match being “dropped”.

So we shouldn't plan ahead in case it looks like arrogance? Some people buy into the media hysteria too much, who cares what they say.

The players know, staff know…..it wouldn’t take long for the media to grab it and spin it.

We announce first we control the narrative. Basic stuff really.

I just watched Kayo minis of all the games last weekend. I thought both qualifying finals looked a gear up from the elimination finals.
Collingwood play a style that can really worry us.
I think we’re only a chance if the boys can leave all their fear behind & play with complete abandon. Like we did against Melbourne in the second half & indeed against Geelong.

I agree. That's why I believe we can win

Better the admin announce it than the players be asked about it in a presser and have the question answered in a clumsy way that will be misconstrued. This way, it’s a decision made out of their hands and they can trot out the line of the club just being organised.

i suspect that this is their way of war gaming whether this is a better way to negate the distance factor for WA teams and will be a blueprint for how we handle the finals grind in years moving forward. Good time to establish routines and relationships with where to live/train, bake it into the budget, etc. Smart from the club. Have the wiggles done this previously?

Posters are getting to hung up on what the Freo of old would do, this is the new Freo.
Trouble is we've seen the Freo of old re-emerge time and again over the journey. Optimism doesn't come easy for many folks...

FWIW I agree - this is clearly a new generation trying to shed the baggage of those that have gone before while not forgetting their legacy. It's a fine line to walk.

The media statement is very carefully worded to keep the players and coaching staff on the upcoming game while reminding people this is contingency planning. Enough whispers were going around on the nightly news bulletins that they couldn't not release a statement. They've handled it well.

I don't think WC have done it before, but I don't think any WA side has mad a prelim from outside the top four. As others have said, COVID seasons showed the benefits of setting up a hub for a run of away games so it's planted the seeds for how it could be done. Only downside is that if we do make the GF, there won't be a massive open training session down at Cockburn.

I'm glad someone else said this.

All I wanted was a home elimination final win and a free hit at the Semis. I'm happy to go down swinging this weekend because the Pies V Geelong game last week was so beyond lit it would take belief and ability of epic proportions to topple that this weekend.

19 players in our side had never played a final before. There's something about this team and let's hope they believe it every step of the way on Saturday.

Any other team and I would've said the same thing. But I don't think I can stomach losing to Pies. Their fans and supporters and the media have been so cocky about them and the narrative surrounding them all year makes me sick.

They’ve all played a final now. In some ways, it was a blessing we dropped to 5th if we couldn’t be top 2, a home final was the best scenario for the guys to experience the intensity, the hype, and the noise backed by a very loud and parochial home crowd. To start off in a packed and hostile MCG the way we did on Saturday - I don’t think we turn that around.

I just want them to show fight and give their best effort and intensity, be daring and be bold. we’ve played our best football when that belief and the external noise gave us no chance, so I’m hopeful that they will play with the dare and abandon of a team with nothing to lose, attack and play to win.

Go Freo!

No Changes.

Saying that, if you could make one uninjured change, maybe Lachie Schulz for another winger.

He didn't get a lot of the ball vs the dogs. Then again, he has kicked a few goals this season.

Gutted tabs isn't in the team as he would cause headaches for Collingwoods backline.

If freos season ends this weekend, so be it.

It's been a good an exciting season. That finals win last weekend was a bonus too

I dont agree....
"In the event of a win over Collingwood on Saturday night, there are plans in place to be based in Melbourne until the completion of our finals campaign," Garlick said. "The players and coaches have the challenge of taking on Collingwood in a semi final as their sole focus, while our operations team are working on arrangements should the team tick that box on Saturday night."

Arrogant would have been saying "We are going to win so we thought we'd actually go and stay in Sydney for a week before the prelim and we have a melbourne base set up ready to go for GF week after we beat Sydney" :)
