Re: Hawks vs Sydney Swans (Semi Final)

It sickens me to my core that teams like the Swans get sole rights to 'massive heart' and 'great culture' blah blah blah. Goodes is a great player. But he will not defend. Ever. Whoever goes to him must become dangerous in the forward 50.

Terry Wallace made a comment that he saw Goodes standing by himself in the centre square during the 2nd quarter and felt it was going to end in tears for the Saints. Never mind the fact the ball, and Goodes direct opponent, were in the Saints 50. The Swans did the same thing with O'Keefe on Goddard last week. Pushed him forward when Goddard rolled the dice and went hunting the ball.

Goodes and O'Keefe were kept goaless against Sydney last time while 3-4 of our midfielder kicked goals. We cannot be to defensive. We have to attack through the midfield.

Last time we played Sydney - rd9, Buddy kicked 6 and Roughead 1 in a 15 goal to 8 win, Buddy was the difference. This week is going to be a tight game, i do not agree with those predicting 40 points +...

If by some miracle Buddy does manage to play, i would like to see him included as the SUB, not in the starting lineup. If we can win without him then give him a rest, if it looks desperate then bring him on in the second half.

Re: Hawks vs Sydney Swans (Semi Final)

In: Stratton
Out: Bateman

Buddy will play as long as he pulls up well after his private training session this morning. He joined in with the main group so....but we will see how he pulls up tomorrow morning. Every hour that goes by, he is improving.

B-Guerra Gibson Murphy
HB-Birchall Schoenmakers Stratton
C-Smith Hodge Lewis
HF-Burgoyne Hale Whitecross
F-Osborne Franklin Rioli
R-Bailey Sewell Mitchell
Int-Suckling Puopolo Sheils
Sub-Bruest
Emerg-Lisle, Bruce, Cheney

Franklin will rotate between full forward and CHF.

We can't fall for the trap that if Buddy plays, we'll win. I think we may, at times, use him as a decoy when two defenders are on him. Walls has tipped Sydney, which is good.

What happens if you lose a player early in the game?

Sure, there is a risk attached, and obviously if somebody is injured he will have to be subbed on.
In a best case scenario there will not be a need for him, and he will be in better physical condition for the following week.
I do not see the point of risking further aggravation to his injury, unless it is looking like the finals campaign is going to come to an abrupt end without him.

Re: Hawks vs Sydney Swans (Semi Final)

Looking like a 60 - 40 for buddy to play which aint bad odds considering our first thoughts on the injury.

My final lineup:

B: Murphy Gibson Guerra
HB: Stratton Schoey Birchall
C: Lewis Mitchell Smith
HF: Burgers Franklin Osborne
F: Whitex Hale Rioli

Rucks: Bailey Hodge Sewell

Bench: Shiels, puopolo, suckling, Breaust (SUB)

Re: Hawks vs Sydney Swans (Semi Final)

Dear lord, what kind of message will that send to the other players? We need to be emphasizing the fact that we can't rely on 1 player to win us games. Buddy is icing on the cake but he can't exactly win the ruck, win the clearance, take the ball at CHF and handball it off before kicking it to himself and taking a pack mark 30m out then kicking the goal.

Re: Hawks vs Sydney Swans (Semi Final)

when Buddy is fantastic he really is, but hell when he is off................ dear oh dear. That being said, I really hope he is there

Exactly. No need for the handball.

Re: Hawks vs Sydney Swans (Semi Final)

Buddy and Max to play. Depending on how whether he's nutted out the European Financial Crisis for the UN, Stratts could also join 'em.

Re: Hawks vs Sydney Swans (Semi Final)

I've changed my mind. Yes, Franklin will play but I'm also including Lisle

So, it's: In: Stratton, Lisle
Out: Bateman, Bruest or Suckling

I know this is not popular but we surely can't go into this game with doubts on Bailey. We desperately need to keep some structure. There are 2 main "ifs" for me.

If Bailey ends up in trouble then Hale can go into the Ruck and Lisle and Franklin can be the big guys up forward.

If we're doing ok with Hale and Bailey but Shoe is struggling, then Lisle goes to CHB and we give Shoe a chance at CHF or FF. Or we sub him off after half time and Lisle goes to CHB and we go with a more mobile forward line.

It's almost certain that Sydney will try to stretch us down back with Goodes, Reid, White and Mumford. I think we'll win, but I'm confused:eek:

Done. The EEC have unanimously agreed to the release of the Stratts European Franc. Designated the SEF, the Stratts Franc will initially be released by Deutsche Bank at an exchange rate equal to 2 EUR.

HawthornFC Hawthorn FC
SEMI FINAL TEAM IN: Stratton. Who will be OUT? Full team announcement on hawthornfc.com.au at 5pm.

Bruest omitted for Stratton. Feel for Bruest, had one bad game and loses his spot for that.

How ds Bateman keep his spot? He did nothing coming on as the sub, looks slow and his decision making is very delayed from recent games.
