Both WA teams are apparently offering 'Dusty level' money to Shai Bolton. Given he's contracted for another four years after 2024, it will take a bold offer from West Coast or Freo to get it done, but I think Richmond would be open to letting him go if the deal accelerated our rebuild significantly.

Can we add a poll somehow? Price for Bolton, overs, unders or fair?

Imo, Longmuir knows its an important year for him & Bolton is very much a need for your team... & Richmond knew this & fleeced you significant overs. 10 & 18 was more than fair imo.

At least you didn't give up a top 3 pick for Baker as that was nuts.
Pick 3 wasn't just for Baker, they got pick 12 back + future first which will help them get Warner next year if he decides to leave.
Owies also a handy best 22 player.

Imo, you only give up a high end pick like #3 for a gun player. Neither Baker or Owies are guns.

Bolton's manager said Richmond were emphatic that they wouldn't pay any of the contracts

You ended up getting a good deal without having to do it so it worked I guess
Stupid move by us. We really should of paid some of Bolton's contract for the life of his Richmond contract because, unless we can get a good player through trade or FA (or Dow/Ralphsmith/Ross become stars), we need to keep some Pay integrity.

Watch this thread and before the mid-season next year people will be talking about how great of a deal this was for Freo lol.

Bolton at his peak, in a good side, IMO is worth 500 disposals and 40 goals every damned year.

He won flags at Richmond but was nowhere near his peak when he did and really just starting peaking in the last 2-3 years as RFC slid off a cliff.

Having a midfield and ruck service like Freo does he will be a lock for AA.

win-win trade.

Bolton is the type of player that could transform Fremantle into a flag threat...but is not useful for a rebuilding side.

Tiges getting an extra 2 picks in the top 11 to setup a ridiculous 8 picks in the top 24 could set them up for their next premiership tilt. Really respect what they're doing.

Pay integrity is an issue for sure, especially how many players have been come for the list.

I do think it's an opportunity to use cap space in list management. Different sport with different rules but OKC Thunder used the Salary cap to take expensive contracts for draft picks, trade out players and paid a good portion for draft picks and front contracts to buy in players at later date.

Jayden Short contract expires at the end of 2027, push his wages forward either use contract to make it attractive for a team in contention to trade or just use the extra cap for a free agent in 2028.

Salary cap trading is coming soon right? Maybe we though the deal didn't need it and preferred to keep as much flexibility in future.
