This surely has to be the worst injury run over an 18 month period in the history of the AFL? At what point do we stop saying this is bad luck?

It is bad luck, absolutely

That this has gone on for years and we have retained almost all the same key people in the same posts, and its still going on, is nothing more then a freak coincidence

But never fear, if we keep giving the same team enough goes and getting this right and close our eyes and hope really, really hard that things change, they might

You know, we could of course just sack everyone and try new people because they really couldn't do any worse, but tenure and stability and credits are very important things, far more so then the solving problems, chasing excellence, and having a consistently healthy squad to choose from every week

Two long serving people left our S&C department over the off season and we recruited a very well credentialed replacement from Ireland who had extensive experience at Sydney. So it’s not like personnel weren’t changed and the whole program was revamped

It’s well documented that prior to the derby we only had a handful of injuries which included Naitanui with his troublesome Achilles and Jack Williams spleen injury

We’ve had a bad run since then, the majority of which have been collision injuries- not all, but most

But don’t let facts bother you

Indeed it will take a year or two to reap any benifits of a revised s&c program

It’s actually so embarrassing has there ever been a team in the last 20years that has had this many injuries in 2-3 years I would love to see that statistics and surely it can’t just be all rotten luck

Tanking by going around breaking players arms is certainly taking it to a new level

Probably owed Nisbett $5 for a coffee 2 weeks ago and Trev had to take matters into his own hands.

There are several issues going on in my view. We have retained older players who are injury prone. That is on list management. Not arguing the merits or otherwise those decisions but that’s not really on S&C and medical.

We have had numerous contact injuries. That is clearly bad luck/ the nature of the game.

We have made some arguably questionable medical decisions on putting clearly injured players back on the field during games. That’s on coaches and medical but not sure we are in a position to second guess them without all the facts. That said, on face value and in hindsight, some of those decisions look very questionable at best.

A bit hard to judge the new S&C team/ approach at this early stage but they got most players on the park round 1 in good condition (apart from the older injury prone players).
