Squad numbers I believeCOVID cases or don’t have the squad numbers?
Where have all the players gone ? I thought Mordy had 3 sides last year (u19s) so to lose more than 1 side, something ain’t right down there. We’re in Trouble

We lost the u19s to parkdale. Falling out between the two presidents.Where have all the players gone ? I thought Mordy had 3 sides last year (u19s) so to lose more than 1 side, something ain’t right down there.
The standard of U19s has been declining in numbers in local leagues, Parkdale,Mordy,Edi Asp close neighbours, over Bayside- Hampton, Hampton Rovers, Highett, Black Rock, Chelt, Beaumaris and the 2 Mentones all trying to recruit players and close neighbours, not going to get easierCOVID has certainly brought on a lot of changes to things that people previously just did almost out of habit / routine. From work to entertainment to other things. Unfortunately, some people have had some time off footy and decided they quite liked their spare time.
I think it will be back but may take a few years to truly build back up.
I’m quite shocked about Mordialloc. Seem like a club with great facilities and a great history in a busy area though I guess I don’t know much about them.
Too many clubs in a 5km radius. We just seem to be the club that’s worse off.The standard of U19s has been declining in numbers in local leagues, Parkdale,Mordy,Edi Asp close neighbours, over Bayside- Hampton, Hampton Rovers, Highett, Black Rock, Chelt, Beaumaris and the 2 Mentones all trying to recruit players and close neighbours, not going to get easier
Terrible news about Mordy. Heard they are having a crisis meeting later this week so hope that generates some interest. A really good club and a great facility. They have worked really hard to get U19s and juniors up and running but just too many clubs in that area all scrapping for the same local kids. A few miles down the Parkdale could not field ressies last year and their seniors got hammered every week in B grade ammos so issues in that area not just confined to Mordialloc. We’re in Trouble
Not a shambles, the basically all the to go to parky.Terrible news about Mordy. Heard they are having a crisis meeting later this week so hope that generates some interest. Sadly for Mordy the SFNL U19s is a shambles so not surprised that kids might prefer to play unders in another comp.
Sorry Scotty but the SFNL U19s comp is a shambles and it has been for years. It is one of the reasons that clubs such as Mordy have battled to get traction when they are competing with the VAFA and MPNFL for U19 players. Not a shambles, the basically all the to go to parky.
We are talking to Hampton to take a few of their players as it looks like they won’t field a side this year.
O you’re talking in general…Sorry Scotty but the SFNL U19s comp is a shambles and it has been for years. It is one of the reasons that clubs such as Mordy have battled to get traction when they are competing with the VAFA and MPNFL for U19 players.
Clubs just bounce in and out as they please. The rules around age qualifications are confusing and some side deals are done to accommodate over age players while other clubs get no such dispensation. I reckon we are 15 years in to the reintroduction and it is still floundering. Have said this before but conditional on playing in Div. 1 you must have an U19 side. If you don’t then you have two years to get it up and running or as an absolute minimum demonstrate to the league the efforts undertaken.
Without a commitment to the concept, you cannot get a multi-tiered competition and without a multi-tiered competition you get non-competitive games. This leads to players leaving to play in better run competitions or giving it away completely, which flows on effect to the senior arm of the club.
I have plenty of idea and could go on but will leave it at that. Has been a major frustration of mine for many years.

Certainly no criticism of Mordy. They worked extremely hard to 19s and juniors up and running. No matter how good the program is and despite the travel factor, if it is lineball decision between the VAFA 19s and SFNL then kids will opt for the VAFA. I think the fact they are competing with Parkdale, St Bedes, and perhaps even Beaumaris has made it bloody tough for Mordy to sustain their U19 team.O you’re talking in general…
This is not the reason we lost the u19s though but I get your point.
I hear St Bedes are fielding at least 3 under 19 teams this year. As the other poster said the under 19s comp in southern has been a shambles for years. Very hard for Mordi to compete when you have st bedes and Parkdale playing in a strong ammos comp and Edi Asp in a good comp as wellCertainly no criticism of Mordy. I've always said AFL Vic should introduce a Bayside U/19s competition into metropolitan footy which includes SFNL teams & 3rd & 4th VAFA teams.Been a long term issue in the SFL I think you're right but this year is extra hard and there are a lot of clubs struggling. The EFNL has long had 4-5 Under 19 divisions and 40+ teams but this year is a major issue, talk is there may be as few as two U19 divisions. I say talk as two weeks out and there's no fixture, the league and clubs are still battling away at it. Long term I think they can get numbers back up but it will take time. People incl kids have had almost two years of relaxing on weekends and have said "ya know what, I don't mind this"
The SFNL has the added competition of the VAFA with some clubs having up to four Under 19 teams... don't get me started on that I think it's bullshit, but others say if you don't have them they simply won't play, so who knows.
