Don’t forgot Soccer they have political pull no matter what council it is and I’m hearing councils are very much considering pull up Turf wickets to save on cost too.
It is interesting how the AFL & NRL have been slaughtered by concussion protocols and yet soccer seem to be or are exempt and quickly change the narrative when challenged that the balls they use are safe. Go and head a soccer ball and see how it rattles the brain. Now do that 10 or 20 times per week in training and in a match. The number of UK footballers dying of Dementia is at an all time high and TBI brain injuries due to a career of heading balls hundreds and thousands of times per month for 42 weeks per year. Bobby & Jack Charlton, Nobby Stiles, Martin Peters, Ray Wilson all died of Dementia and many more have quietly passed. Only mentioned in hushed tones. Are all of these young girls playing soccer being warned of the consequences of continually heading? I don't see any posters warning young girls...

As for Councils wanting to get rid of cricket pitches, you are 100% correct. They are considered a total waste of space and a drain on resources for what is viewed as a small group of participants. The explosion in the popularity of basketball and netball is putting a lot of pressure on space and resources and build in door netball courts.

Staggering that St Pauls have never had their facilities upgraded for such a successful club , the place hasn’t changed since Moorabbin VFA played there 40 years ago !!
Well known that the further you lived from the Glen Eira town hall, the more likely your club would be ignored. Only have to see how many ovals in the area that get upgrades when they need them over the years. Caulfield Park...Caulfield Football ground and Princes Park, just to mention a few. The Council has over $30m in the bank but always find a reason not to spend it on the unwashed who live on the margins.

St Pauls, Ormond & Mackie cricket ground have been waiting for 20 plus years. Mackie is finally getting the revamp or so they say....which club plays there in the winter? Glen Eira Soccer Club. Centenary Park were screaming for a revamp of their ramshackle pavillion for decades. 10-12 junior footy teams plus their 6 senior cricket teams and all of their juniors with nowhere to change. Councils move like glaciers.

Glen Eira spending $75m on the building the new Carnegie pools - not to mention the new pavilion at Lord's reserve & now one of the ovals getting resurfaced there. Bit of $$ spent in that corridor of late

Ormond don't want a change

Hearing as a rumour only that Marlborough st Reserve that backs on the new McKinnon Seconday College is having its ground ripped up with new Synthetic Fenced ground and new Pavilion/Gym to be built there with Federal and State funding it for the school to use during the week and the Glen Eira Soccer Club to use the weekends.

Thing about soccer clubs is there’s a lot less of them so they tend to have a lot more members and players at one club - particularly at junior level where soccer is insanely popular.

So it’s a much easier sell for funding when you can say the venue houses this club which services 600 local players.

With footy there’s a different club on each corner so it’s harder to justify the benefits.
