So realistically.... Who can slide to pick 28?

Not sure what happened to Harrison Macreadie ?I'm sure he was rated a potential top 10 pick last year. Fills a need if deemed best available. Will rile GWS a tad more if we bid on him.:D
100%. He went into the nationals this year as a potential #1 pick; unfortunately (or fortunately?;)) he had a poor year and may go a lot later than expected, but many top youngsters have off years; I'm keen. I'd be shocked if we didn't bid on him if 28 was an open selection. 196cm - great set of hands, precise kicking. He really is the package. That being said, after the departures of Marchbank and Patfull; I can't see them turning down a bid.

Jonty Scharenberg?

yes yes i know he's not a ruckman or a key position player but if we do draft one of those they are going to take a few years to develop and I want results now! Plus it's an awesome name, he was considered a top 10 pick a while back and the brothers Scharenberg could be carving it up for the Pies for the next decade...
may well be gone by 28 though

We have enough Inside Mids that are Poor Kicks

Brown will get bid on around the 15 -22 to make us use the pick. Dogs did it with Moore?

We won't take him if he's bid on that early.
Now why don't you answer the question posed in the thread title instead of being a knob.

Happy to take on board any suggestions as to how to make that spreadsheet better by the way.

do you think you should differentiate between phantom drafts and rankings? should the spreadsheet only have one of those two things or both? as you mentioned, knightmare's rankings of a few players are quite different to the common consensus, but i suggest his phantom would be more in line with the others when he does it. brett andersons is a ranking, bishop has both a ranking and a phantom, cal twomeys is a ranking but i think he is a but disingenuous with that because i think it's closer to a phantom based on what he is hearing. emma quayles will be a phantom.

Thanks for giving me the theory behind that belief. It makes sense for me up until the point where you talk about trade value. Just seems like the trade value of players is lower than what it should be.

For example, am I correct in saying we paid more for Aish than we traded Witts for? If so, that does not make sense. We spent years on developing Witts, he is without doubt a potential solid AFL ruckman with a decent chance to be top quality. In return we got bugger all. Maybe I have answered my own question. Maybe the club is going for slow, average kicking inside mids because they develop fastest and so represent the best trade value.

I get the point about taking a player you are more confident will make it long term. Still, if you are talking about picks in the first round surely you are confident all of them will make it?
Trade value of most players this year was lower than normal. Combination of a strong draft making picks more valuable, and Hawthorn stuffing up values by letting Mitchell and Lewis go for peanuts imo.

That's a good point.

Probably have to keep track of what is and what becomes available in the next 4 or 5 weeks.

Not sure if I'll only use phantoms, only use rankings or a mixture of the two. By the time you get an average across 6 or more people it probably almost evens out to be the same anyway.

I'll definitely keep it in mind.

Hayward, Ridley and Cox. But I'm prepared for a bloke that wasn't rated at all to be called out and everyone will be like wtf who is that?
Does Sier have a brother?

If we can bookend Brown and Daicos with Brennan Cox and Mitch McCarthy I'll do cartwheels
Has the Logue dream ended, say it ain't so!

Crikey. Not a good strike rate number 28. I hope we change that this year.

At least Taylor was a rising star. Duncan probably the pick of the crop. Dawes won a premiership medal. O'brien knows lots of people who won premierships. We're in for a rough ride otherwise. Hopefully we slide a couple because teams bid for academy players.

Clubs will keep each other honest, but they won't be driven by spite by bidding for a player ahead of what they're worth.

The reason the Dogs did it with Moore was because that's what Moore was worth.

The reason Essendon did it with Jack Silvagni was because that's what he was worth.

Who needs talks? There was a young Krakeour kid playing for Sandy in the TAC this year. May have even played the granny.
Indeed, I had one too but mine was red.

Griffen Logue no! It was all a bad dream. I went to kick the ball off the ground and kicked the wall next to the bed instead. I have bruised toes now.

Logue showed off in the combine. Cows or Port going for Hayward
With their second picks ahead of us.

Brennan Cox and Jordan Ridley are popular on here, Rotham or Berry would be nice, Shai Bolton or Lebois would be great for some speed alongside Varcoe and Wells.

Can we get Brennan and Cedric Cox to go with Mason?

There seems to be a lot of young tall tucks I the SA state combine this week. We might need one if we have a pick left after the father sons otherwise it's a mature ruck in the rookie draft.

Can't see us taking Minson as a delisted free agent, seriously!

Great to to see the love for Powell-Pepper, hopefully there is enough doubt on his kicking that allows him to slide to us. I also think Brown will slide and we will get him at 44 plus Daicos 51.

Why would we want a Player with Suspect Kicking?

End of the day, too much emphasis is put on under age form by fans and posters, great players come from everywhere in any given year, there are so many factors that determine whether a kid makes it, and how far he goes, some in his control some not.
I don't really care who we draft as long as they turn out good that's all that matters.
