So realistically.... Who can slide to pick 28?

Clubs will keep each other honest, but they won't be driven by spite by bidding for a player ahead of what they're worth.

The reason the Dogs did it with Moore was because that's what Moore was worth.

The reason Essendon did it with Jack Silvagni was because that's what he was worth.
Ok so we definitely taking Brown with pick 44?

Powell-Pepper or Shai Bolton for me.

Unless Jy Simpkin happens to slide.

Don't think we will find any Kpp's through the under 18 comps at that pick.

Then aim to draft a KPP next year and also go really hard for Rory Thompson through free agency.

Or maybe the dogs wanted Moore as he was a top KPP and then they went out and spent a boat load getting one after?
Correct.
Good point.
Darcy would have been top 5? In his draft year sans father son.
Would have been nice if Bulldogs didn't bid, but they did... but we have him :)

Callum Twomey this morning at afl.com.au:

Pick 28: Two tall defenders left the Pies during the trade period and Jonathon Marsh remains in limbo, so they could look to add a developing young backman at the draft. That could be Brennan Cox, a 194cm defender who was named an All Australian following his under-18 championships for South Australia. Cox is strong in the one-on-one contests and has been a consistent shutdown player across the season. He has some fans as a top-30 selection.

Around the mark: Callum Brown, Jordan Ridley, Jonty Scharenberg

Cox and Ridley look like they would be good pick ups for us. Fingers crossed no pre pick 28 bids on Brown and it can be a live pick.

Why would we want a Player with Suspect Kicking?

I have no issues with his kicking I just don't think it is elite, PP won the goal kicking comp at the combine and my understanding is he played well as forward nabbing a few goals in the WAFL.

The All Star Game between Team Judd and Team O'loughlin is on You Tube if any one wants to re watch it or missed it.

I hope we select the best player rather than a player that is simply tall at 28, sounds like a receipe for a list clogger!

Tombstone listed Rotham at 29 which made me nearly fall over! He was very good during the champs, exceptional athlete, can kick, mark, and rebound. Took a ripper of a mark against the Allies I think. Ran 2.92 secs in the combine. Famously had a bag kicked against him last year in the champs by a Lions' list clogger. Is on the smaller side as a KPP at 192 but if he slides to 28 would be a ripper!

For me Powell-Pepper, Cox, Brown and Logue.

The consensus is that we are really well stocked for inside mids and shouldn't look for more, but we got flogged in stoppages last year. Our inside mids appear to be an ordinary group to me. I wouldn't be aghast or disappointed if we picked up someone like Jonty Scharenberg.

Adams: Good
Crisp: Good player, but not really a first possession mid.
Degoey: appears to have the skillset, but played his junior career up forward and his best footy for us has been up forward. He's been mediocre in the midfield. Will he read the game well enough to be a gun mid?
Wills: Might end up ok.
Sier: Very speculative prospect.
Greenwood: I'm hoping he plays as a forward
Blair: No

Have I missed anyone?

Do you have reading comprehension issues? Can you quote one poster, let alone all, who've said that we definitely won't have to use 28 on brown.
Don't bite, it's exactly what he wants.

You reckon Pendlebury, Treloar, Adams, De Goey, Wills and Greenwood is an ordinary collection of inside mids?

Can see the argument for Greenwood and maybe Wills, but still... lol.

Our problem isn't inside mids, it's that we haven't had the class on the outside to take advantage and the first half of the year Grundy was fairly ordinary.

I'd be interested to know our clearance differential from before and after the bye. An in form ruckman can make an enormous difference.

And JDG hasn't played his best footy forward for us. His best footy was in the NAB cup where he was given genuine midfield minutes and looked like an absolute animal. Got 24 disposals and 5 clearances against a Geelong midfield with Dangerfield in it from memory, and 6 clearances against the Dogs.

Either a KPP or an outside mid with the speed / endurance / goal kicking combo is what we need. Best prospect remaining in either category would be fine at pick 28.

I reckon the whole best fit v best available argument is overstated.

More than likely, if Hine and co ranked the kids from #1 to #28, there'd probably be a cigarette paper separating some kids, maybe even entire handfuls of kids. I mean the difference between #28 and #29 is probably negligible -- and even in Hine's own mind he probably revisits and revises and second-guesses who he rates ahead of who. I'd be astounded if he just sat down and went "Well, #25 is clearly worse than #24, but clearly better than #26, who's a whisker ahead of #27." Hell, it's quite plausible that there sfa separating, say, #25 to #33.

All of which is a roundabout way of saying that I'd be staggered if we didn't go tall at #28. That is, if it's not clearcut who the "best" is, that gives them ample scope to choose the "best for our specific list needs".

Having said that, they'll probably select a back flanker or inside mid.
