So who won trade week!?

Why does trading cease at 2:00pm on the last day? Why not make it 5pm? Normal COB.

Makes no sense.

Who knows mate Clape, Hogg, Rice were cloggers that won a flag
Josh Kennedy, Richards, Shaw, Grundy, Pyke were cloggers that won a flag

Josh Kennedy is a clogger?

Those Carlton and Sydney teams also had brilliant top end talent. It will take Carlton a minimum of four years to get that talent and that is if everything goes perfectly well at draft time. Which it hasn't for the past few years.

After Carlton's trades, the end result to our list could end up looking like,

Henderson > Tomlinson
Bell > kerridge
Menzel > plowman
Yarran > lamb, sumner

+ Phillips, pick 21, pick 8
It's quite fitting your arrow is equally applicable as a greater than sign in this post.

Ok. Why not Carlton?

Ok, so my initial reaction upon hearing the trade news was to laugh at Carlton's misfortune. Main reason being that they seemed to have lost their talent (Menzel/Yarran particularly) and gained only 'potential' which in Carlton's case hasn't been so favorable in recent years.

My question is: Why do Carlton insist on trading for players that aren't in the best-22 of other teams? I understand they haven't drafted anyone decent apart from Cripps in the past few years... Menzel was one of the few who looked decent for God's sake! Interestingly, prior to him, Yarran and Robbo were the best draft picks in 2008 and even they're gone now...

Freo with Bennell and possibly sunshine. Cats with Dangerfield and Henderson. GWS has done well stock piling 1st rounders for 2016, unsure about giving up pick 8 tho. Possibly Tomlinson for pick 8?

Obviously wrapped getting full value for Carlisle after hearing about the PSD for the whole year. Melksham for pick 25 is the icing on the cake.

Lamb and phillips are spuds. The other 2 ill still give them time.

I think Carlton and Melbourne have been some if the worse off so far just my view. Richmond probably dont look that great been trying to get a bit of everything but never finished the kill on anyone.

Melbourne won just as much by cutting Toumpas and Howe as they did with getting the trade upgrades. Two inconsistent, flaky whipping boys gone. Big cultural win.

Melksham trade still looks like overs, but fills a major need (inside/outside mid with good disposal and speed but not lacking in mongrel/contested ball ability) and his talent has never been disputed. Whether or not he applies it and if Goodwin/Roos can help him become more consistent will determine if it was a good trade. Win for Essendon regardless, he was clearly never going to put it together there.

Bugg essentially in for peanuts, will bring a lot to the side. Kennedy has upside, just needs game time IMO. Looks much more AFL capable than Toumpas.

Draft pick results (43 + 29 i.e. Howe = pick 6 ->3 and 2016 first rounder -> pick 7) insanely good.

I hate to say it but the Druggies are the clear winners. Two picks in the top 5 + Leuenberger + Bird.

Biggest loser = Freo if they fail again in getting a tall fwd. Epic fail. Another decade of low scores coming up.

lost: Carlisle (big loss), Melksham (no biggy), Giles (VFL ruckman). pick 44. one spot slide in 2nd round
gained: pick 5, 6 spot upgrade from 63 to 57, craig bird.

Getting pick 5 gives us a solid B i reckon.
If 5 turns out to be a combo of Parish and Francis, i'll give that an A.
Or if we get a CHF who solves our forward line issues.
You won't get parish

Add up everyones draft pick points and whomever has the higest, wins!

Nice tangible way to decide it.

Trade Ladder top 6

Collingwood
Geelong
Melbourne
Adelaide
West coast
Essendon

Spooners
Carlton - really can't understand what the hell they are thinking. Would be really disappointed if I was a supporter. I think they have a worse list than the inaugural GC and GWS teams. Wouldn't be suprised to see similar margins next year. Can't see them winning a game. Best bet for the year would be the blues for wooden spooners. I'd take any odds over evens.

I think we did well but we pretty much broke even. Not sure if we deserve 5th place.

Are Demons fans concerned at all about trading out next year's first rounder? Club seems to be banking on rising up the ladder and doing another deal with an Academy club, but there's so much that can happen between now and then

I actually haven't minded Carlton's work. They needed kids bad, and were (well still are) facing a really long rebuild. They turned some picks into 5 young guys. Sumner and Plowman probably have more scope to improve than the other two but they've helped fill a gaping hole in their list.

Yarran & Henderson leaving has been unavoidable and they've done moderately okay so far. Especially if they manage pick 19 for Yarran, that would be a win. To add:

Lachie Plowman
Liam Sumner
Sam Kerridge
Jed Lamb
Andrew Philipps
Jacob Weitering
Pick #8
Pick #19 (Yarran?)
Pick #20
Pick #21

in one offseason, it actually gives them some kids to play next year. Losing Menzel is a real bummer but you have to think he might have been out the door the next year anyway.

If Geelong getting Danger was "the win of the trade peiod" (even if it was as close to a sure thing as possible), then the Crows starting from the opposite side of that trade have come out pretty damn well outright, not just 'pretty well considering the Dangerfield loss'.
