Andrew Mackie - If he was disgruntled and wanted to come home, would we want him?

Dual premiership player still in his prime, possibly 5 years left in him. But how would he fit into our structure?

A couple of Port players were tweeting today that we should pursue him. It was also mentioned that we chased him hard (and supposedly nearly got him) at the end of 2006. Hadn't heard that one before.

Re: Andrew Mackie

A half back flanker with a unique blend of speed and endurance, where do we sign?

Not saying we should necessarily go after him but...

a) He's 192cm, an awesome reader of the play and normally a very good user of the ball by foot

b) He's a lot better than anyone else we have in that role right now

We'd probably have to pay way over the odds for him so my initial reaction is to leave alone.

Re: Andrew Mackie

Mackie is one of my favourite players from others clubs. Excellent decision making, smooth with the football, quick, tall, I'd love him in our side.

Re: Andrew Mackie

Not wanting to start a new Salter to play forward thread but if we had to pick two out of Paul Stewart (191cm), Salter (191cm) and Mackie (192cm) in the backlines building towards our next finals campaign who should we have?

Re: Andrew Mackie

i like him but i wonder where he would fit into the side. look at the team we had near the end of the season and sal, surj and harts have to come back in. but players like meyer, nash are expendable. mackie could fit into our 22 probably towards the end, player to play off a flank and come off the bench. really that sounds like a luxury, not a necessity. i hope we only take it if its something that comes easy and after exhausting other trades they would be preferable. so if mackie can come to us through mots leaving or the pick we got with krak ild be ok, and not our 1st 2 picks but geelong would never go for that. not pick 16!!!!!! and i hope they are chasing redden/ greenwood first!

Mark Blake.

Mark Blake - Call me silly but would he be worth a chase ?

Yes he is a premiership player X 1, but seems to get dropped at the pointy end of the season. Ala 2007 and now for the up coming prelim against Collingwood. If Geelong win through, cant see them selecting him for the GF.

I can hear the groans, but he is only relatively young for a ruckman and held his spot in one of the AFL's best teams. Surely he must be getting pis*d off being dropped again.

Could he help develop the Lobster while taking a load of Broges ? What would he cost ?

Just a thought.

To save the board being filled with the names of speculative trade targets being tossed out there for discussion, put them in here.

If there is a genuine rumour linking a player to Port, that can have its own thread.

Here's another suggestion - Mitch Clark from Brisbane. Worth a look?

Got the point fella :p

If i knew this thread existed, would have put mine here.

It didn't exist when you made your thread, that's why I merged it with Mackie thread for a catch-all.

But the Mitch Clark question was real - there's a rumour he could be up for trade. I have no idea how realistic that is.

Choco went after Mackie a couple of times I reckon.

How about giving Relton Roberts another crack? Could be hungrier second time around - and Adelaide isn't quite as daunting as Melbourne. We need some magic!

I'd love us to make a play at Mackie. If he could play as our loose defender it would free Chappy up just to play as a one on one defender. Chappy's game against Melbourne when his job was just to shut Green out of the game was one of his best, would love to see him be able to do that every week.

no doubt we will see yet another boring Port Adelaide trade period.... Rohde has already said we wont be an active player

of course we already have the perfect list... we dont need anyone/anything

What is he going to say?? Would you like him to come out like that cows flog Harper and publicly name who they were after? Why? Just to keep supporters happy so when Walker doesn't end up at the cows Harper can say at least we tried. The media had no idea who our coach was going to be because it was kept in house. I'm happy for Rohde to give the media nothing and just get on with his job.

Thats so true powermacs. There's no point telling the football world what we're going to do in trade week. I take no notice at all what Rohde says, not because i don't respect him, but because i know they're not going to tell everyone what their recruiting/list management plans are.

your kidding about mitch clark right?? we would have heard about that surely? is he from wa or vic i cant remember?? he is a gun.

never trade pick 16 or pittard for mackie, ill crack the shits if that happened.

love for pafc to try for jack redden or levi greenwood.

Agree with this...we need to become more of a player in the market.
