I'm surprised that Nick Salter's name keeps coming up as a makeweight in all sorts of trade scenarios. He's a good size, his skills are sound, he has some toughness and Primus persisted in picking him, and he was showing signs of being a good, consistent league footballer.

no slur on him as a quality player. 100% the confusion on where our coach sees him for the long term that brings his name up. I pulled him out of the hat in the interests of generating ... interest and as part of an attempt at a 'quality for quality' trade suggestion packaged with Sal but only for an elite mid of the comp.

At it as it looks end 2010: losing Salter is a risk to our KPP depth; losing a elite (for our club) mid to the 'go home' factor and not replacing him with something better and with less 'go home' ipretty much guarantees ongoing mediocrity and instability.

- the 'do you play five >190cm defenders each week?' dilemma
- hasn't been Pettigrewed by moving from SANFL forward to AFL defender so his value/potential/brand remains high
- we don't see him go up forward in place of Ebert (and the coaches raised questions on his suitability for that role earlier in the year). At Geelong, he'd still go better than Mooney FFS !

Fair enough, the comment was not directed specifically at your post, Nick's name has come up a few times and personally I would hang onto him as I think he's starting to come good as a league footballer.

Maybe my view is clouded by my thought that calling Travis Varcoe an elite midfielder of the comp is a very liberal interpretation of both elite and midfielder. I see him as a talented but often flaky small forward who looks good in a very good team.

As for his brother, he could be Geelong's version of a tiny Matt Westhoff for all I know of him - 68kg, is that right? Has he even played an AFL game yet?

Say no more. I'll leave now.

Haha, won't happen, but seriously Pearce is a seriously good player and I think the coaches see that. He won't want to leave and I seriously doubt that he'll be on the trade table this year.

But yeah, would love Jack over this way, think he would be in the same boat as Pearce here though, unless his old man gets into his ear too much!

My trade idea is looking pretty sad just at the moment...

Re: Mark Blake.

Mark Blake - Call me silly but would he be worth a chase ?

Yes he is a premiership player X 1, but seems to get dropped at the pointy end of the season. Ala 2007 and now for the up coming prelim against Collingwood. If Geelong win through, cant see them selecting him for the GF.

I can hear the groans, but he is only relatively young for a ruckman and held his spot in one of the AFL's best teams. Surely he must be getting pis*d off being dropped again.

Could he help develop the Lobster while taking a load of Broges ? What would he cost ?

Just a thought.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA.

No.

Hi boys and girls, excuse the intrusion, just stopping by to inquire about Danyle Pearce.

Would he be on the trading table at all? I heard a rumour a week or so ago that Primus was considering it but I didn't really believe it, surely Primus wouldn't get rid of just about his most dangerous player right?

If the answer was yes, I would love the Swans to go for him. Furthermore, should he be on the table, what would you guys think would be needed to be interested?

Cheers.

You guys drafted Byron Sumner last year. He's a similar player to Pearce but better overhead. Reckon you've got a gem there. Wouldn't worry about Pearce. We'll hang onto him. Ta.

a ruckman is key for me

Call me old fashioned, but I like having 2 good big guys

Now if we trade for Jacobs, great, but that doesn't mean he's an automatic inclusion into the team. What it does mean is that Brogan, Jacobs, Lobbe, Redden & Bass all have to lift their game, the best two make the team. Making it more of a competition for team places makes us a better quality unit, hence higher up the ladder and winning flags.

You cannot win a premiership without a quality squad and fierce pressure for places in the best 22. Recruiting Jacobs would help us along that road.

Varcoe looks great in an excellent Geelong team, but not for Sal or Salter, let alone both of them.

I'd like to see us do a trade like this

Daniel Motlop to Fremantle
Tarrant to Calton
Jacobs to us

I'd also like to recruit Fremantle's Rhys Palmer

Varcoe is class. He was one of geelong's best last night (thats not saying much of course xD)

Not sold on Varcoe. Wouldn't be many easier jobs than playing small forward behind Johnson and Chapman....oh, and Ablett when he pushes forward.

Which defender, when playing in the Geelong team, do you reckon Varcoe is getting?

My bet is the best 2 small defenders in the opposing team take Johnson and Chapman. Then they cover Varcoe.

If Varcoe was playing in the Port team, he gets the best small defender maybe 2nd best if Gray is playing.

Now I'm not looking to get into an argument over how good Varcoe is or isn't. He's just not someone I'd be looking for us to trade for in our current situation.

I like that deal. I reckon it's a possibility. Freo know they have lost Tarrant, the Blues have too many ruckman, but need a decent KPD, we need one more ready to go ruckman, and Motlop could add something to Freo's attack. We might have to do some pick swapping in there too, like our second round for their third or something, but could be a good deal. And all the players get to go home or where they want to go.

Varcoe might be a good footballer, that doesn't really matter here, we have Rodan who plays the same role just as well. Pearce is another undersized/weak player.

What we need in our midfield is 3 or 4 big bodied quality mids from the guys already on our list and from drafting and trading.

I see Varcoe as a significant upgrade on Davenport. Would like to have him, but it would have to be in exchange for one of our tradeable players(Motlop), and i'm sure Geelong would want to keep him anyway.

as much as ild like to get lewis johnstone on our list #16 is what syd would ask for and we need that for either lycett or a midfielder. if there was another way ild be keen but doesnt look like it. also solly is 191 or 192 cm key forward who would be available anywhere from pick 20-40. might as well keep 16 and use pick 32 on solly who may or may not be as good.

Trade week will be very interesting this yr.Cant wait lol.Has solly got x-factor? whats he like ?

I think we will be disappointed this trade period. Rohde has said we won't be very active. The only trades I see happening are ones for Mots and Sal should they choose to go plus maybe 1 more.

I think your right Charlie, if Sal stays and we have trouble moving Mots there could be zero change.
Load up on some more players for the SANFL reserves:thumbsu:
