ugh so many people are being so negative and chatting s**t about how 'badly' the boys played today, not only were we missing multiple first team regulars, but it was the boys first game in 3 weeks, Melbourne have had 3 games in a row and built good momentum along the way, yeah the saints were very scrappy at times but they also did some very nice things in patches too. we'll be roight, i'm not worried about todays performance at all and i don't think anyone should really have any concerns about the season based on a pre-season game between an underdone team against a full strength side...

Which first team regulars were we missing?

Yes but with free agency and trading, (and the issues that GWS have to face with reducing their cap and list), it won't be too far away.

Another year of development and another top 6 draft pick and we'll be looking good. Carlisle to come back. Paddy and Hugh to be better for another year and so on...
Stop it, you just being sensible now

Does anyone have any reason for optimism for this season . I'm interested to hear some . I think we'll be bottom 4 after this showing

Another top 5 draft pick?

Irs the end Barrels. Our dream of the flag this year are in tatters.

Our second practice match for the year and thw concern trolls and chicken littles are all over the place.
Were we good today? No.

Did today actually matter? No.

Will we win the flag this year? No.

Were we ever going to win the flag this year? No.

Can we complain if we play like that all year? Sure, but let's worry about that when we have to. For god's sake people, calm down.

IMO today was more us being bad rather than Melbourne being good. If we didn't butcher the ball all game we would've won, not that the result matters because it's a damn practice match.

We looked rusty, and just lacked match fitness. Think these were part of the reason for the skill errors. I saw some good things, so not overly concerned. Think we will work our way into the season.

Probably a good game to get past without too many injuries.

A lot of negative Nancys in this thread.

There were a lot of positives, Newnes smothered Jones and worked off him to kick a goal, Sammy Fish turning back the clock to his AA form, Lonie and Billings dangerous early, Steven and Armo looked good at times, Gresham very impressive, Roberton's mad dog prison style haircut.

Riewoldt was disappointing though, had little influence, not sure if it was the diet or he just DGAF.

Hopefully he fires up for Rd 1, we still need the champ at CHF giving us a presence.

Thought guys like lonie and billings did very well. Mav had a stinker. They should get him back to playing a tagging role. Unfortunately we had no structure forward. Gresham looks like he has smarts to succeed in footy. If we going to play Riewoldt on the wing at least put another tall in our forward line
