Movie Star Wars - Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker - Spoilers and Rumors

I must admit I'd almost entirely forgotten the narrative around Finn pre-TFA release and the sheer amount of marketing done of him with the saber that Rian then just completely dismissed.

I didn't pick up on the whole replacing black guy with white guy thing either and turning the black guy in to comic relief. Then the double whammy with the kids at the end!

It's interesting. Interesting that it was RJ who first started to bring Kylo back (almost instantly) whereas many would say it was RJ that committed him to the path of evil and darkness that JJ ****ed up.

Sigh. Hopefully we get the full JJ treatment summary one day. It might not be any better but at least it might flow with some consistency.

His comments immediately after the film were what made me pivot so much from "Yeah wow, ok movie with some great bits and things I need to think about" to "This guy doesn't get it at all".

His comments about how Kylo is so relateable, how he had no idea how to write a scene with Poe and Finn without it being boring so he created Rose to fill in, and so much else were so tone deaf. He cracked a joke pre-release about how it'd be hilarious to keep Finn in a coma all film which in hindsight also comes off really weird.

It would have been something different to comatose a lead character for a film, but hilarious is strange wording.

He didn't get so many things. There was a movement of people wanting Poe and Finn to root such was the natural chemistry (not necessarily romantic, but they bounced) with John and Oscar, but Rian didn't know how to write a scene with them. The guy who's other big works look like this couldn't write a scene between a Hispanic guy and black dude?

There's probably a great Behind The Laughter: Disney's Star Wars 2012-2019 story to be told by Abrams, Johnson and other directors who were hired but departed. Be a very long time before we see it.

I mean, Knives Out was pretty diverse.

RJ didn’t bring Kylo back, he provided the path for him to be the chief antagonist and ensure he remained the villain he should have been. Sure, JJ had him kill off Han (probably at Harrison Ford’s insistence) but he still had him as a snivelling underling to Snoke. TLJ moves him beyond tired old master/apprentice tropes and sets him up as a villain only interested in forging his own path. It was JJ that decided to bring him back, get the girl etc.

I love Lando’s fleet arrival but it is also close to the biggest mistake of the film. The whole point of TLJ’s final act is that Luke’s return and sacrifice is meant to be the spark that inspires the people to rise up and overthrow the First Order. It would have made Luke front and centre in the defeat of the FO and the redemption of his grumpy arc. Instead, Luke does nothing, Leia’s pleas for help were ignored, but hey, Lando did a ring around and look what happened

Lol maybe Rian wrote Kylo as himself! A mature aged adolescent you can empathise with out to break free from his masters and forge his own path!

It’s obvious throughout his work that RJ is a student of film and genres. JJ is a cover artist. A pretty good one, plenty of style, but a cover artist nonetheless.

\I feel that being the case, luke rocks up, dies. word gets out to the rebels and they come in and win the day. It may have added some time to the running time.

Adam Driver is a very good actor, any fault on Kyle Ren should be placed on the writer’s (most notably JJ Abrams)

This might sound like fanboy wank fantasy, but I really wish we see the scenes of a Ghost Darth Vader (even if projected by clone Palpatine) haunting Ben/Kylo throughout the Sequel Trilogy, it may have given the (on screen) reasoning for the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa turning to the Dark Side.

On the available evidence, the manipulation of Ben/Kylo via Palps had been happening years pre the events of The Force Awakens.

There had been speculation of an Anakin/Vader haunting around in the original draft/script of The Force Awakens, that would have been cool

This was Adam's trilogy in the same way the prequels were Ewan's.

A bit of a shame we never got to hear him speak as Ben.

The sort of shrug he gives before fighting the Knights of Ren (also horribly underused) reminded me a lot of Han, thought it was great.

It was a shame we didn't get more of it.

Got to give credit to JJ, once Kylo changes to Ben, he gets a new personality. The shrug is a classic, the "ow" when he hits the statue. He just seems different, which is why Driver is such a good actor.

Kidding yourself if you think Rian wrote a Breaking Bad episode.

Disney Star Wars just gets worse and worse.

Lucasfilm telling fans what is canon or not is up you to decide if that's so then episodes 7,8,9 don't exist haha

Its a wonder how such huge companies with great know-how not understand that presentation and wonder are important. Like how people know magic isnt real but they still enjoy being shown magic that defies that belief, made like kids again believing in the possibility. You dont dump on SW and play it off as just fake -- like telling fans, why are you even watching this crap for?
