Why do we care whether they are salty? We would be if the shoe was on the other foot.

What I know is that the 16th premiership is absolutely in the bag, and nothing can change that. And we know, because there are plenty of GFs that we've lost over the years and are salty about that we haven't been able to change after the fact. Next year is next year, but this one is over.

As an aside, did Linc McCarthy get any weeks for his shoulder to Murphy's chin? That should have got 3 weeks going objectively. He elected to brace and bump.

I thought we ‘care’ about it because we love it so much! It’s great when supporters are salty, but when players come out, it takes the gratification to another level!

* Adelaide lost two games to us this year by a combined 3 points. They win those and they play a home elimination final.

* Port lost to us by 2 points during the season. They win that and they would have had a home qualifying final against Brisbane instead of the other way around.

* GWS missed out on making the Granny by losing to us by a point.

* Despite beating us on King’s Birthday, Melbourne lost a QF to us by 7 points after losing one of their best players to an act of common assault that they think Maynard should have gotten jail time for.

* Brisbane lost a Grand Final to us by 4 points.

Our practice of being able to seal games to win by small margins with a list that’s a long way from the best in the comp, means that we leave our opposition rueing about what could have been.
A list a LONG way off the best is a huge stretch - but keen to hear your justification.

Bloody love this! We have seemingly pushed their club to the edge, and Clayton Oliver has happily flung the group over. Such mental weakness, beautiful.

Melksham should punch him again

We finished 17th two seasons ago with much the same list? And it wasn’t exactly a young list - and even then many of the young players getting games back then have since left (Poulter, Ruscoe, Wilson, Bianco)

I know many like to think we had a better list than 17th - and that may be so - but it wasn’t exactly 1st either. Richmond and Suns both lost their coach this season and didn’t finish 17th.

And considering the changes - N.Daicos is a superstar in the making, Mitchell has been a brilliant pickup, Bobby Hill has been an upgrade on Ginnivan, Markov has been an upgrade on Ruscoe / Noble, McStay has struggled to get on the park and Frampton has been a handy tall utility.

I just think that Fly & co are that good that they could and would have won a Premiership with any of the top 10 teams this season. But Fly & co are ours, so we win the Premiership.

This doesn’t answer why our list is a LONG way off the best as you’ve claimed.
Which list is the best and why we a LONG way behind them?

Oh, sorry, I missed the “Why” bit …

I’d imagine it’s because it’s been a while since we had good draft picks and many of those we have had haven’t really paid off (some not yet). Even the year we finished 17th we’d already traded our future pick. Given the salary cap dumps we’ve gone through we’ve had less to spend on players than the competition.

And yeah, we’ve done well with F/S, but so have a few other clubs (Brisbane, Bulldogs).

Melbourne are really covering themselves in glory at the moment
They are genuinely embarrassing themselves. Just own that you've shat the bed and aim to get better.

Nah. Our list is up their with the best in the comp. The down year in 2021 was the anomaly for clear reasons. The comp is not that strong atm, the top lists are fairly clearly matched, but we are definitely one of them.

I always find it extraordinary that when sides finish within a few points of us, that the cry is that it was the better side and barring usually a poor umpiring decision, would have and should have won. Yet on the rare occasions recently where the Pies are on the wrong side of the ledger in a close encounter, the better side triumphed.

Many a true word is uttered by drunks (In Vino Veritas). 17 other sides despise the success of Collingwood as evidenced by saving their best efforts for encounters against the Pies. If you take a look through history, many team's come unstuck in subsequent weeks after beating ( or almost beating) the Pies. An economic analogy for this is false economy.

May we have many victories in '24, culminating with a one~ point win over the dark blue enemy.

Which list is the best and why we a LONG way behind them?

Our fitness coach is clearly doing a good job, we’re able to run out final quarters. And injuries are low.

And we’re able to get ahead in games, and hold onto leads.

And our coaches are clearly getting the best out of our playing list - heck, Frampton and Markov are Premiership players!!

I reckon we have the best coaching group in the comp by far, don’t you?

Now if we had the best coaching group in the comp by far AND one of the best lists in the comp, we wouldn’t be winning the GF by only 4 points. Or a prelim by only 1 point. Or a QF by only 7 points. Or defeating Port by only 2 points. Or defeating 10th placed Adelaide by a combined total of only 3 points across 2 games.

We beat Carlton 3 times in the 1970 season, once by 12 goals and then led them by 7 goals at half time in the gf. We lost by 10 points but no Collingwood player ever besmirched their victory.

We have had many narrow losses in grand finals that were decided on a bad bounce or non decision. No bitter recriminations from our players.

The whole comp can suck it up and pull on their big boy pants.

Melbourne sounds like a really rancid collection of salty , bitter losers. Their vicious reaction to Maynard's bump was exposed for the disgusting hypocrisy it was when a week later one of their favourite sons carried out 3 acts which would have had the football world howling had they been perpetrated by a Collingwood player. The media is just as twisted in their approach to such incidents.

If you wear black and white you will be a source for endless expressions of outrage and disgust in some sections whereas Picketts sins were literally not mentioned other than to be justified and explained away by the club who defamed Maynard and put his family through the mill for days on end.

It shows why 'number of premierships' should never be used to determine the quality of individual players (e.g. 'Voss is better than Bucks because Voss has three flags'...).

Frampton and his two possessions has earned a premiership medal, and yet the likes of all time greats in Bucks, Ablett Snr, etc haven't.

By your own flawed rationale above, the team with the “best list” underperforming compared to Coll in 2023, is not the best list.
So you need another analysis to prove our list is a LONG way, from the best.
