Coach Support a Carlton coach for once?

Add to that, more wins, better performances and a rise up the ladder, typically equates to greater membership and merchandise sales, leading to improved revenue and profit generation.... that guess what, helps pay down the debt.

Rather see that, than the free membership strategy

I can understand the free membership strategy. The hope is that the free members decide to keep their memberships going for future seasons, increasing the revenue base.

I would have preferred to see Barker and Bruce moved on last year and a proper forwards coach and a proper stoppages/midfield coach brought in. So we delay becoming debt free by 12 months but broaden our revenue base through increased membership and merchandising increases.

No... the CEO is the titular head of the club. The president and the board make the decisions for long term strategic financial issues. They only want to know about short term strategic stuff when it looks like it’s going to impinge on the long term stuff. The CEO is there to separate the wheat from the chaff before going to the board with reports.

This would seem to be a problematic structure, where a CEO would have too much power, and be too involved in football matters. A football club is a business, but success is measured very very differently.

I actually see that as Teague doing the right thing by the club and keeping on the assistants to help the club clear our historical debt... although, I did think that Barker was a dead duck come the end of last season. If they had all had their contracts renewed for the 20/21 seasons... then clearing them out last year would have possibly required 800k-1 million dollars in compensation payments.

Hopefully the club is scouting out good quality coaches to move in and support Teague long term and we're having a massive football department clear out come the end of the year... which I've been saying for a couple of months now.

Well.

Not looking good for DT. Watching this game from afar, I have no idea what the game plan is and looks like the players have no idea either.

I'm glad I started this thread and promoted some healthy discussion rather than mindless whingeing, but I think the writing is now on the wall. So disappointing we are right back here again.

I'm happy to support Teague to the end of the season which right now can't come soon enough, but if he's still head coach for 2022 then I will eat my membership hat. This team just doesn't know what the hell it's doing. We look like we are trying to work it out on the fly and the team just has no soul. Not only do we get the basics wrong but we also seem to completely neglect some other basics, like play the middle and defend the middle. It really is damage control in every sense of the term.

Not sure what is a realistic plan for the coaching group for 2022 but it seems beyond all doubt that this group is incapable of coaching an effective team to current acceptable football standards.

What do you think?

Was on the train until early this year and then decided to get off at the next station. Don't know what in the world happened to the 2019 David Teague.
Remember he used to like to lead from the front on the bench.

Soulless rudderless football for like 70% of the game.

Seems absolutely fine with shoot out football, which is completely ridiculous from an AFL coach, extremely slow to react to any positional changes/change in strategy from opposition coaches, no plan B, the repeated red time goals, the inevitable multiple goal pile on from the opposition, very odd positions for players, playing players who clearly aren't ready and need 2's time.

Selection integrity non-existent up until very recently (cough cough review cough cough)

Tonight was perfect example of all the calamitous errors our football club has at the moment:

Bombing it in over and over again into F50, getting intercept marked, caught off guard, easy goal for them. Nothings changed in over a year.
Bombing it in to Eddie Betts being the main marking target over and over again for some absurd reason.
Giants players running through huge amounts of space you could land a passenger air plane on, where is the communication? Why is no-one manning up ffs.
Corralling instead of tackling, that tackle count was extremely poor, VFL quality at best, why can't we tackle? ffs.
Ed Curnow not tagging a damaging midfielder again.

Extremely disappointing to find ourselves in the same position again.

Support a Carlton coach seriously....

I support Carlton Football Club not the individuals passing through it.

The Prendercast had it right, why is everyone so invested in a bloke who has achieved nothing. In other sports, poor performance is met with the axe. Its ruthless.

Only in our backward sport do we have such emotionally attachment to ineptness

Some of us formed this opinion a few months back.

Not only this - he has had a shot. Now coming into his third year, and has totally lost the playing group, and looks totally devoid of ideas.

Here is the issue: the premise of this thread is wrong. We stuck with Bolton well past time - he did a reasonable job in tough circumstances. By 2018, his tine was done and we crashed to last place with some pretty insipid footy.

We 'stuck by' Bolton and he kept his job after winning the wooden spoon. By halfway through 2019 it was clear that was the wrong decision and we were on pace for another unless something changed (and had traded our first round draft pick to boot). That left us scrambling mid year when his position became untenable. Had we sack Bolton at the end on 2018 we could have had a full and proper process. Instead, Teague got a temporary job and did well enough to get a full time crack, but it led to shonky process.

Sometimes, it is just time. It's clear there is no heir apparent and that's great. Clean him out now, start a proper review of everything (not the face saving PR stunt that is happening now) and appoint a coach who can lead us to success.

As an interim, give the job to someone experienced who has no long term intent. Suss out a Leigh Matthews or even a Worsfold/Sheedy type who can motivate the players, not feel any pressure to overdo things, and just keep the place from imploding.

Sorry, but coming off a bye, and with everything that is going in, the attitude and lack of effort from the players was telling last night. It is done... and delaying will only make the situation worse.

I think we are ****ed. When the coaching is so bad you just see so many players free on opposing side able to just move the ball at will and it happens time and time again, I actually cannot watch that shit when I see it not changing. It highlights to me just how bad the coaching is, for it to go on and on and on.
After first three goals against Eagles I struggled to want to watch as that coaching is so absolutely horrid. There is no defense and the opposition know it and use it against you. I did not bother watching second half. Second time in my life that decision was made. This week I did so much Saturday I was tired extra early and went to bed early rather than watch us. I woke up, watched a bit of Kayo and saw the same lack of any backline of note and decided to no longer watch the rest of the game on replay after quarter time and simply watching the Kayo mini-game highlights which is a 15 minute condensed version of the game and it was even worse than I expected.

The problem is not just the coaching but the idiots that appoint them. They genuinely seem to have no idea. Teague gives the impression of being a nice bloke but not a head coach. Given we sacked Bolton it seems flawed logic in retrospect why as supporters we just bought into the thinking, oh yeah, lets just appoint one of the assistants from same coaching group as head coach, nothing wrong with that. I can remember the spin Cain Liddle put on it at press conference. We looked around and we decided the best man for the job that ticked all the boxes was already here.... Do I trust this guy to be in charge of appointing any coaches, **** no.
First time in my life I am questioning being a member next year. I have zero confidence in our admin on decisions made in last two years and some off field decisions have pissed me off with this club so unless I see a massive change in admin and some follow up from the president I think I will remove my membership next year which is a sad thing to think to be doing but I cannot feel good just handing over money to an admin I have zero confidence in and they make marketing theme's the seem complete at odds with how I feel of what we doing as a club.

No!

Can you at least delete the last two seasons?

Hey... last year was awesome - well, about as good as a 7-10 season can be. We beat Geelong in Geelong, smashed the bulldogs, won after the siren, lost after the siren, gave up 8 goal starts and came back, got 8 goals ahead and blew the lead... pretty much saved my sanity in lockdown. That's one of our top 5 seasons in the past 20 years - almost worth putting out a video compilation IMO.

if we are deleting seasons, then in order please delete:

1. 2002: The first wooden spoon. Injury woes. Seeing guys like Bradley, McKay and SOS go out in the worst way possible. Then... the salary cap debacle, losing picks 1 and 2 and again the following year, and all the turmoil that followied.

2. 2021: This season just blows in every way. High expectations and low performance. Just about every player underperforming. Murphy sulking about being medical sub. Young players we had hopes for showing almost zilch, getting dropped, probably delisted. Possibly saved by McKay winning the coleman, but even that is soured by his shocking goalkicking confidence. Realising that 6 years of rebuild accomplished pretty much nothing. Not being able to even sack the coach because Richmond once didn't sack their coach and now they are amazing. Losing every game by 20-30 points.

3. 2015: Malthouse last year, Judd's knee, Henderson walking out and then his Mum defending him on TV. End of the road for Yarran. Jarrad Waite going to North and playing all 22 games (the first time in 8 years he was healthy). Realising we had a major rebuild ahead. Uggghhhh
